What was the best face turn/heel turn.....

Recommended Posts

Guest Strike Force!

I'm a big fan of quick, sudden face turns...but I like slow, subtle heel turns.

Don't know why. Anyway, I'd be interested to hear everyone's thoughts. Here are mine:

Face turns: Mr. Perfect in '92

Ted DiBiase in 1985 in Mid South

Heel turns: Bret Hart in '97

Andre the Giant in '87

Chris Jericho in WCW in '96 (?)

What are yours?

Funny thing about that Bulldog heel turn.....I never saw it. One week, he's on RAW teaming with Lex Luger, then a few weeks later, he's a heel with jim Cornette. I don't know if I ever heard what happened that turned him heel..?

Diesel was gonna face MOM that night, Bulldog came out and said Luger wasn't there and he agreed to team with him.

During the match- SWERVE! DBS turned on him

Face turn has to be Austin at Mania 13.

Heel turn was Bob Backlund. Not that it was a great thing or anything...just because it truly shocked me.

I loved the Bulldog turn! That was one of the 1st Raws I ever taped. Maybe I should watch that now...

Um...as far as face turns...I liked Perfect's in 92, Austin's for historical purposes, and Taker's at Saturday Night's Main Event in 92.

I actually think Hogan's heel turn in '96 is overrated. For pure shock, I guess it was ok (I actually spotted it the moment he started walking down the aisle...it was obvious to me that he was the third man the moment he appeared).

Jake the Snake's heel turn in '91 is another one I missed. I know he turned on the Warrior, and Taker turned face on him...but I am really confused as to how it all happened. Can anyone enlighten me?

I'll have to go with Savage's face turn at WM 7, because it was QUITE emotional and it was really out of nowhere. No signs or anything before the match.

Best heel turn, i'd have to go with Owen's turn at Rumble '94. The seeds were there....and with one kick, the man became a heel.

Heel:Bret at WrestleMania 13

Face:Austin at WrestleMania 13

It was so perfectly executed, they'll never pull something like that off, to that extent ever again.

The 95 Bulldog turn was cool. Being British, i was always (and will always be) a huge fan of the Bulldog. He was actually really underated as a wrestler, and an all-round personality. After the heel turn Bulldog headlined a couple of PPVs which were good, however, the Diesel/Bulldog match (at In Your House 4?) sucked complete balls :)

The Savage face turn at WM 7 still brings tears to my eyes. It was just beautiful.

No sarcasm.

Ok, I actually missed the Jake turn because I was out that Saturday, but he's what I know...

There was the Taker/Warrior feud, right. So Warrior was facing some demons and stuff after getting locked in the casket after the funeral parlor, so he met up with Jake, who tried to show him to face his demons (i.e. burying him up to his neck in sand). Now as I said, I was gone the day Jake originally turned, but from what my friends told me, he beat up Warrior and threw him in a snake pit, where he was bitten by a cobra or something. Warrior passed out, and when he came to, Taker and Jake were standing over him. So Taker and Jake formed an alliance, and at SummerSlam 91, began to terrorize Randy Savage and Liz. From what I remember, they also took out Sid Justice just before the Survivor Series (remember Jake as Diablo?). They were pretty much always linked up until Saturday Night's Main Event when Savage beat Jake in a match. So Savage and Liz are celebrating in the ring, and they're about to go to the back when the camera cuts backstage, and you see Jake standing behind the curtains with a steel chair. The show went off the air before they showed what happened, but as it turned out, Jake was about to hit Liz when Taker came outta nowhere and grabbed the chair, allowing for Savage and Liz to either escape or attack Jake (I really think they just escaped). A few weeks later on the funeral parlor, Jake came through and was talking to Paul Bearer when the casket opened up and the Undertaker popped out (btw, as afraid of him as I was, I always thought that was DAMN cool). So Jake's all "Who in the hell do you think you are and whose side are you on?" And Taker grabs the mic and says "NOT YOURS...BITCH!" Ok, he didn't call him a bitch, but he shoulda. So Jake's all mad, so he grabs the urn, and tosses it into a casket. When Undertaker tried to get it, he slammed the lid shut, and Taker was trapped. He then DDT'd Paul Bearer, and whacked him a few times with the chair...and we have a face turn for Taker. Hope that explains it.

And am I the ONLY one who liked heel Bulldog?! Remember when he beat Ahmed with the arm-wrestling table?! Remember?!?!?!

Hey, thanks. I saw the deal where Warrior was put in the Taker's casket, but next thing I know...Jake is a heel with the King Cobra feuding with The Ultimate Warrior.

hogan in '96 has to be the no1 heel turn. My god.

face turn i'll go with Austin at mania13 as well.

jericho just didn't grab me until that great program with the rock last year, when he was just great. So that would be my favourite 'slow burn' heel turn. The radicalz turning on foley was great too.

The thing about the Jericho heel turn that made it so great was the subtlety of it at first, and then when he was in full heel turn mode, it was done with such originality. Jericho always had a cockiness about him, and that's

how the apology/fake sincerity heel turn was able to work.

Savage @ WM7

Hogan @ BatB .. This crap represents the fans! hahaha

I still love Kaufman turning on Lawler in that final match. Even though you knew it was coming a mile away. Watch that old woman in the crowd react to it, totally shocked and mouthing something along the line "that son of a bitch!"

can anyone tell me how Razor and Luger both turned face? I luckily missed a lot of the WWF around WM9 time.

Luger turned face in the stars and stripes challenge thing on the deck of the USS Intrepid. Basically, a buncha guys tried to bodyslam Yokozuna to no avail until Luger shows up (in a chopper, no less), slams Yoko and embarks on one of the most embarassing attempts to shove a guy down the wrestling fans throat ever : "The Lex Express". Luger rode around in a bus for months, stopping periodically to flex his muscles in front of monuments and the like...culminating with his count-out win over Yoko at SS94. Luger is one of the biggest duds in WWF history. He was pegged by Vince to be the next Hogan and he went absolutely nowhere...

Razor Ramon...Im not 100% certain, but I think his face turn stemmed from the time he got beat by The 123 Kid on Raw. I seem to remember some sort of respect thing going on with Razor saving the Kid from an attack, becoming a face in the process.

Razor Turned when dibiase (and IRS i guess) was mocking him for losing to the kid then insulted him by saying he's better of being his maid cleaning toilets. HI-larious.

hogan saved Savage from the hart foundation attack btw in 1987 I belive. But not 100% sure.

Luger vs. Yoko was at SSlam 1993.

I kind of liked in the last days of the NOD, The Rock turned into face by opposing Vince McMahon. He had the whole crowd cheering for him and everything. Then at Survivor Series, The Rock turned heel and won the WWF Title in the same way the Survivor Series screwjob occured.

The infamous "Double Switch" at Wrestlemania 13 was the best heel and face turn. Like someone said above, they'll never pull something of that magnitude off ever. It takes the right two stars to make that happen. And there wont be guys like Bret and Austin for a while.

Two of my favorites are when Luger turned on Ricky Steamboat after Steamboat was named #1 contender to Flair...and when Windham turned on Luger to join the Horsemen

I remember this, and I almost mentioned it. Luger was a big time babyface at the time, but during World Championship WRestling Saturday Nights, they were began to talk about how Luger was complaining and becoming bitter about not getting title shots. Then at Clash of the Champions (I think it was) Steamboat is getting his BUTT kicked by somebody (can't remember if it was the Horsemen or who) and Luger makes the save. Then while Ricky is laying there, Luger gets the mic and cuts a fairly babyface promo (if I remember correctly) then when he's done, he picks up Steamboat and says, "Come one, Ricky...lets go"...and I just knew....then WHAM!..he starts beating the crap out of STeamboat.

This was when wrestling was fun to watch.
