"The agents for first-round draft pick Bryant McKinnie say they have rejected what the Minnesota Vikings called their final offer.

McKinnie, the Vikings' only unsigned draft pick, has already held out of training camp for more than a week.

"They told us we could either accept or reject but that it was their final offer,'' Ben Dogra, one of McKinnie's agents, said late Thursday. "What they're offering is simply below market value. They told us that if we rejected it, they would simply move forward without him.''

Without McKinnie, the Vikings would use Lewis Kelly and Everett Lindsay at left tackle. The 6-foot-8, 343-pound McKinnie could still work his way into the lineup if he signs.

"We do not comment on contract negotiations,'' said Rob Brzezinski, vice president of football operations. "But we have made a very fair offer.''"

I wonder how long this will last.

I love it when players from other teams hold out.

Yeah I love it when players from other teams hold out, but it sucks when your players do - I'm not sure but I don't think Jimmy Smith has reported to camp yet.

As for McKinnie..when they were announcing the draft picks signing I couldn't put my finger on the top picks who hadn't signed. So this is one. Holding out this late into preseason is seriously going to cost him a starting job...if he doesn't know the offense they won't play him.

That sucks though, using a high draft pick on a guy at a key position and then not being able to use him.

Quention Jammar and Ryan Simms haven't signed either.

Just sign the damn guy. All he wants is the same amount that last year's 7th pick got.

Are you sure that's all he wants?

Cause I don't think the Vikings would call it fair and lowball him on last years pick.

He struck me as a guy who was pissed the Mike Williams was taken ahead of him.

Willliams got a monster contract...and I'd bet that McKinnie (who beleives he is the better player) wants a huge contract just like his.

If there was a rookie cap, or some kind of Draft pick # to money ratio stuff like this wouldn't happen. How often do you hear about Basketball players holding out?

There is a rookie cap.

The NFL tells each team the maximum they can spend on their draft picks.

They have some system that uses the # of picks and how high they are.

Most teams don't spend the entire cap, and use the rest of the $ on other people.

I don't know what the deal is with McKinnie

The Vikings are offering him less than what Roy Williams got with the #8 pick.

Plus according to league sources the Vikings are offering 12% less than what last year's 7th pick received.
