Guest Marshall Posted August 6, 2002 Report Posted August 6, 2002 I keep getting wierd emails that freak me out! They are always the same. They have strange subjects like "Site by" and "Missing Web". They always say there in an aatchment but there is nothing there and there is never any text. Plus they are always from different addresses, which are always either Hotmail or Yahoo. Some of the one I still have are from: [email protected] [email protected] I have scaned them for viruses and they are clean. I wasnt too bothered at first but then i got one with the subjest line: Hello, paul marshall, please try again This freaked me out a little. Paul Marshall is my name. The wierd thing is I dont use my name with this email account. Does anyone know what is going on? And what I need to do about it.

Guest DrTom Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Sounds like you've been the victim of direct marketing. It happens to all of us.
Guest El Psycho Diablo Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 I think it's the fact Hotmail has more holes than swiss cheese. I've been getting some strange ones the last few days, too.
Guest mister foozel Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 oh yeah it happens, and NEVER open the attachments
Guest Mikey2Dope Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 This has been happening to me for about 3-4 months now. It has thankfully gone down to about 1-2 a week instead of 6-7 a day and it is because of some stupid Hotmail(non-lethal) virus. The only way to stop the blank e-mails is not to open the blank e-mails. My tips: 1)Don't open anything from anyone you don't recognize(even if your name is in the subject) 2)The files usually have a size of 115kb - 163kb 3)This is a hotmail virus that apparently, once you open the blank e-mails, it reads your address book and sends out to random people in your list. So if you keep getting them do what I did and send an e-mail to your friends explaining what it's about and it will easily cut down the number you get. Like I said it's not lethal just REALLY damn annoying.
