Guest D'Lo White Report post Posted August 6, 2002 I just heard that the Sixers traded Mutombo to the Nets for Keith Van Horn and Todd MacCullah. This may help them win the East again, but I'm certain it won't help against Shaq and the Lakers.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted August 6, 2002 its more of a one time fluke than i can see back to back eastern champs.
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted August 6, 2002 I'm with you RedBaron. I think the Celts are going to the finals this year out of the East. Unfortunately I still don't see any east team beating the Lakers or the Kings in a seven game series.
Guest realworldschampion Report post Posted August 6, 2002 As a Sixers fan, I'm just happy we FINALLY got rid of Deke's gigantic contract. Having his contract is like having a VD. And we FINALLY get a shooter.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 7, 2002 I'm the #1 Nets fan here so I'm a bit upset cause being a soon to be Canadian I loved MacCulloch. He was my third favourite on the team and it sucks to see him go. Van horn. He wasn't that great last yr and was ineffective in the postseason so I wont miss him. If Mutumbo is as good as he can be I can see Nets repeating or at least giving the Celts a run for their money.
Guest LexLugerRules Report post Posted August 7, 2002 Toronto Raptors Vs. Sac-Town Kings, this year! I went to all of Raptor's playoff games.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 7, 2002 So you were disappointed for the most part??
Guest LexLugerRules Report post Posted August 7, 2002 Nope, because this year, Raptor's won the games home. And the last year, they beat The Knicks, and had a great series with Philly. Iverson Vs. Carter was great live.
Guest Shaved Bear Report post Posted August 7, 2002 worst trade ever

Guest D'Lo White Report post Posted August 7, 2002 I love this trade for the simple reason that I get to hear post game interviews with Mutombo.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 7, 2002 I think the Nets could benefit from the trade- I assume Jefferson starts SF
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted August 7, 2002 mmm...cookie cookie cookie I love this trade for the sixers. I am a big MacCulloch fan and was pissed the sixers had to let him go the first time. Van Horn I believe can turn it around in Philly sometimes a change of scenery works and there is no pressure in Philly (never thought I would say those words) for him because AI is the center of attention anyway. Mutumbo proved he is of no use in facing Shaq so dump his ridiculous salary gets value in return and free up some FA money.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 7, 2002 Both guys sent to the 76ers are former Sixers. How bout that.
Guest Ripper Report post Posted August 7, 2002 Well, the nets lose their only other shooter, and the Sixers lose their Center...I think it was a bad trade all around. Mutombo automatically slows your offense and he made the team less deep. Jefferson will probably (heh, probably) WILL start at the SF with...well...no real backup.. You have Chris Childs coming off the bench with Aaron williams and Lucious Harris, but Jefferson was a great 6th man.
Guest MentallyNormal Report post Posted August 7, 2002 MacCulloch is a good luck charm. Well last two years he has been in the finals. But the bad thing is that team always loses. But hey if History repeats it's self you never know MacCulloch maybe in the finals again.
Guest bravesfan Report post Posted August 7, 2002 Van Horn I believe can turn it around in Philly sometimes a change of scenery works and there is no pressure in Philly (never thought I would say those words) for him because AI is the center of attention anyway. IMO, Van Horn needs the pressure situation- case in point against the Celts in Eastern Conference Finals; there, he is a clutch shooter. Good trade on this part by the Sixers- get a great shooter to take a load off of Iverson, and possibly get AI better shots. Mutumbo proved he is of no use in facing Shaq so dump his ridiculous salary gets value in return and free up some FA money. But then again, who can even slow down Shaq? Divac seems to be the only Center who can do it, at least in the "frustrating the player" way, and MacCulloch looks like a deer in headlights in any matchup against O'Neal. Mutombo was their only glimpse of a rebounder/inside presence, and he was just traded. Maybe they should go after Keon Clark??? FYI, MacCulloch makes around $6.00 million a year. Maybe trade him to the Western Conference to get a good PG (MacInnis... Brandon...)
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 7, 2002 I heard Orlando is after Keon.
Guest the pinjockey Report post Posted August 7, 2002 I agree that noone will slow down Shaq and that is my point. Why pay someone $20 mil a year to make a feeble attempt at it? I think Mutumbo has 3 yrs/ $64 mil left on his deal. I may have misheard but I think it is around that.
Guest Spaceman Spiff Report post Posted August 7, 2002 Mutombo is a liability offensively: slow, bad hands, bad footwork. Defensively, he's over-rated. Sure, he'll get his blocks, but he's only effective under the basket. If you can get him more than 5 feet away from the basket, he's useless. Good trade for the 76ers. Guest Human Fly Report post Posted August 7, 2002 How many people are going to be able to come in the middle now with Martin and Mutombo down there? Mutombo won't stop Shaq but he'll do a better job of it while Collins is still developing.
Guest Idiot Hive Report post Posted August 7, 2002 as a big nets fan, this trade is shite for me. van horn had so much potential in the next few years. mcculloh did his job. Mutumbo is slow, and on the downside of his career. Maybe this trade, makes Jason Kidd happy for some odd reason?. For example maybe they approached Kidd and asked him if it would make him happy. I dunno I think they were just thinking whatever keeps Kid here another year. but its a horrible, horrible trade Jason not withstanding.
Guest starvenger Report post Posted August 7, 2002 This seems like a rather lopsided trade in favour of the Sixers. But then I hate Mutumbo so I may be biased in that regard...
Guest Ripper Report post Posted August 7, 2002 They could have signed Clark for much much less and at least gotten anohter shooter for Van Horn. In stead they got a slow center(which they had in Todd, but at least he had great hands and could score) and lost a shooter.
