Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Hey everyone, I wrote a column for smarktalk.com that I want everyone to check out. The Truth about Ron Killings Post feedback either by leaving comments, postin on the smarktalk messageboard, or posting here to keep it bumped. I'm pretty happy with it. Hope you'll like it too. Thanks.
Guest El Psycho Diablo Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Good work, bps. Especially for somebody who hasn't seen a TNA show yet, and is considering ordering tommorow.
Guest Kingpk Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Nice work, maybe you should do some TNA reviews. $10, you say, to order? I may just do that.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Dames is a good TNA reviewer. But I do write previews for it.
Guest TheDames7 Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 *slow clap* Bps, I'll go as far as to say thats one of the best pieces I've seen written on NWA:TNA anywhere on the 'net. Dames
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 aww... you're only saying that because I put over your TNA reviews. Dames returned the job. Thanks
Guest Kingpk Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Hey hey, let's not get too mushy, or Dames' head is going in the passenger side.
Guest Vyce Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 He went on to say that the Intercontinental title has always been for second-class citizens. The last bit is my favorite. Instead of continuing the angle as an angry violent pissed off wrestler…Killings was subdued when he said, “I am tired, I’m mad as hell, and I’m not gonna take it. You know where I’m coming from Dragon; you’ve been there. You can change all of this. You can do it. You make the decisions…and for all of us (now including the mostly white crowd into his until then seemingly racist angle) make the right one.” Killings handed the mic back to Steamboat. I'm so glad you brought this up in your column. Honestly, this part of the promo gave me chills. This was maybe the turning point for me, from giong to not caring at all about Killings, to suddenly becoming a fan of him. Just the emotion he was able to put into his promos (on top of his good ring work), it was enough. This part of the promo in particular got to me, for the reasons you mentioned. He wasn't just "angry black guy". He was a guy who seemed like he was pouring out his heart and soul into the promo. I'm so looking forward to tomorrow night's title match.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 I got chills too. As good as Killings was in that segment, Steamboat deserves alot of credit too. His facial expressions helped to turn it from a pissed off promo into a very credible "Man...I know where you're coming from" angle. Anyone but Steamboat and I don't think it could have meant as much.
Guest TheDames7 Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 aww... you're only saying that because I put over your TNA reviews. Dames returned the job. Thanks No problem, but what I said was a SHOOT~!, brotha. Dames
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 BPS, that was awesome. God DAMN I wish I had a cable box for tomorrow...
Guest MrRant Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Note to bps... make link to SmarkTalk in you sig BIGGER! LOL. Good job by the way. Only had to do a little bit of editing.
Guest mister foozel Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 i don't see why you have to talk like you're a caveman or baby or something to get the point across that you wrote a column i'll read it later
Guest mister foozel Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 wow i didn't even know k-krush(or k-kwik as i just learned) would make such an impact after what WWE did with him great column
Guest Kingpk Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 i don't see why you have to talk like you're a caveman or baby or something to get the point across that you wrote a column i'll read it later ......Not a Simpsons fan, I reckon. Ralph Wiggum said "Me fail English? That unpossible." when he got a warning slip that said he was.
Guest goodhelmet Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 goddamm bps! your column has 4x as many reads as anyone else. for all the other smart talk wirters, i suggest you pimp your columns as well! also, that was an excellent article. once i read it another 4 or 5 times, i'll find something to argue with you about.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Thanks for all the positive feedback. I'd like to thank THE TRUTH for making me excited about pro wrestling again.
Guest crandamaniac Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 I have to agree with you there. You have no idea how badly I want to watch this weeks show
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 I am eagerly awaiting the start of the show... but I have this feeling that they might blow it with him tonight. What I mean is this: As a mark: I want Truth to win so bad I can taste it. As a smark: I want Truth to lose a clean match that he comes soooooo close to winning a whole bunch of times. Afterwards I want him to drop the being held down angle in favor of a face turn and a "climbing back up and earning my second chance" angle that I think people would really get behind. Either way and bps goes home a very happy camper. But I have this feeling they are going to run an angle where Truth gets screwed somehow and continues his current "They" are holding me down path. I don't HATE the angle. And if they think that is the best way to use his character...I can't really argue with them. At the end of the day, Killings will still be a top guy in the promotion and his future will still be bright... but he has progressed so fast...that as a viewer...I feel I need his character to progress with version A or B, despite this angle being so new. If that makes sense...
Guest Zack Malibu Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 Great job on the column, bps. Most people around here haven't seen Killings for themselves yet, and I think you did a great job getting across just how far he's come in such a short time. As the #2 NWA mark (right behind ya, bps, lol) I have to agree that I want to see him win, but it may or may not be the right thing to do. They'll probably go the whole "you screwed me" angle, and build up some more heel heat for his eventual win (maybe in a stipulation match, like the first ever NWA:TNA cage match, to prevent interference?). While a face turn could be HUGE for Killings down the line, I wouldn't want it to happen yet, because of how over he is as a heel. If he does win the belt tonight, I foresee him going on an uber-heel power trip, talking about how he's the guy who finally "beat the system". While I'm not really into authority vs. rebellious grappler storylines, this is one scenario where it definetly works out and entertains.
Guest mister foozel Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 i don't see why you have to talk like you're a caveman or baby or something to get the point across that you wrote a column i'll read it later ......Not a Simpsons fan, I reckon. Ralph Wiggum said "Me fail English? That unpossible." when he got a warning slip that said he was. OF COURSE! stupid me *doh* i remember that episode sorry bps, i thought you were just being stupid...or were you? *insert twilight zone music*
Guest goodhelmet Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 ok i told you bnps i would find something to bitch about and here it is.... bps.... "Krush can do something on the mic that few can…he can make it sound all to real." now, it should be "all too real". now, as for killings himself, i'm glad that it appears the nwa created a legit star and has the net talking. More importantly, the question we should ask..is nashville talking? it's all about promoting and getting the fans excited but the only fans that will attend the shows are the ones in nashville so hopefully they are intrigued. as for the buyrates, i think we can only wait to see the outcome of the trial before we determine what effect that has on the promotion.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 7, 2002 Report Posted August 7, 2002 You're definitely right about that Goodhelmet. It occurs to me that I am more than just a fan of the Truths at this moment. I'm a fan of RVD. I want him to get pushed...I want to see him on tv and so on. But I'm a mark for the Truth. If he wins...I WILL MARK THE FUCK OUT. If he loses...I'll actually be pissed off. If RVD loses a world title match...I say...yeah...well...what do you expect...and move on. But if Truth loses...I think it will actually put me in a bad mood. I haven't felt that way in a long time. This is why I think he should turn face soon. If I'm going to be upset with him losing tonight...then I want to see people (myself included) rooting him on to another shot. This feels...strange.
Guest Dangerous A Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 Damn good column, bps. I was already a Truth mark, now I am a Truth bitch(kidding)! (go there now) don't sell yourself dangerous a. i enjoy your puro reviews as well. i would just like to see you review a show you like! now, as far as pimping your columns, provide a link in your sig. i say this to you and bps because you guys are providing content (even though it's not on thesmartmarks) that is an alternative to the wwe. so link a brother up and pimp your shit!!!and that's THE TRUTH!
Guest Ram Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 Shit, now I'm a Truth mark and I haven't even ordered a show yet. TNA better get a TV spot. From the article only being my source of NWA knoqledge, Truth COULD go Austin and be an uberface fighting the system like every person wishes they could. We all wish we could beat the system in some way. Be it school, work, government, etc. I think, if done right, Truth can be the biggest face since Austin. At least, in proportion due to NWA limited existance.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 It didn't occur to me until after he won the title... but you know what I really like about Killings as champion? He isn't someone the WWE would ever put in that position. The first person they gave the belt to was Ken Shamrock...and when you look at the roster...Shamrock is probably the MOST likely guy that the WWE would make champion. Truth as champ helps to define TNA and seperate them from a WWE wannabe.
Guest eirejmcmahon Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 A former WWE wrestler beats another former WWE wrestler in a match set up by yet another former WWE wrestler on the basis that he was denied title shots whilst working for the WWE. That's a whole lot of WWE right there.
Guest Insane Bump Machine Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 A former WWE wrestler beats another former WWE wrestler in a match set up by yet another former WWE wrestler on the basis that he was denied title shots whilst working for the WWE. That's a whole lot of WWE right there. Yeah, and? His point still stands, WWE would never put him in this position.
Guest eirejmcmahon Posted August 9, 2002 Report Posted August 9, 2002 I would suggest that having such a heavy WWE presence in your heavyweight title match (which was set up because another former WWE star never got a title shot during his stint in the then WWF) doesn't do much to set you apart from the WWE.
