Guest Mazelmavin Report post Posted August 7, 2002 Its not HHH or Hogan or even piss poor booking. It is a lack of buildup. Before the extension, they had 8 shows to build on. Now they only have 4. This is why its hard to get excited about paying your $35. 4 shows does NOT give them enough time for a proper fued. What they should do is still have a PPV every month, but for seperate "brands". Of course, then you run into the problem of star power. Can Smackdown scrape up enough to have its own bi-monthly PPV? Thought I would throw this out there since I see a lot of complaining about buildup for the last few PPVs.

Guest Austin3164life Report post Posted August 7, 2002 While I give your idea merit, I must question your thinking on this matter. When there was no "Brand Extension", the WWF had 8 shows to build pay per views. The problem with that is that there are so many wrestlers on the roster, that there is still not enough television space for the proper buildup. Thus, the split happened so that the creative team would not have to deal with the tiresome rigors of planning the entire roster's storyline all for one pay per view event. Now, the Creative team for Raw has more time to plan buildup for a ppv, it's just that they aren't taking advantage of the advanced time that they now have, and it's hurting them majorly. Guest converge241 Report post Posted August 7, 2002 eh, they were doing a bad job before the splits. and they still hype the main event on both shows , and the sub shows. I think the shows have actually gotten BETTER in some aspects of the buildup towards the pay per view leading up to Vengeance and SSlam. Its not the ideal model yet but its improving
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted August 7, 2002 i would go the opposite route. i don't think the ppv's have sucked because of a lack of a build. i think it's been a lack of a payoff that disappoints me. did you watch taker-hhh? horrible payoff. the king of the ring tourney had a horrible payoff. the main at vengeance was executed fairly well but the end result was rock pinning angle, not taker the champ. the ppv's simply are not delivering in the ring. Guest Just call me Dan Report post Posted August 7, 2002 I want to see the payoffs at Summerslam though because this moth there have been tons more clean finishes and past history being brought up. It is the reason the shows seem somewhat better. Wonder what the PPV will showcase?
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted August 7, 2002 Didn't see Vengence. Everything since the Royal Rumble has sucked, IMHO.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted August 7, 2002 the build up is there, but the PPV does not live up to the hype, like most super bowls
Guest Mazelmavin Report post Posted August 7, 2002 I have actually liked most of the PPV's lately. It just seems like there is not much excitement going in.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 7, 2002 Didn't see Vengence. Everything since the Royal Rumble has sucked, IMHO. Wrestlemania and JD I both enjoyed. Backlash was depressing and KOTR were alright
Guest Marshall Report post Posted August 7, 2002 I saw Vengence but I can't remember if I like it or not. I can't even remember what happend. However, I do remember what happend in all the 2000 PPV. I think thats part of the problem.
Guest King Kurt Report post Posted August 8, 2002 The real reason is that for many PPVs Kurt Angle is not in the main event.when he is, the whole show is better.also, when Angle is stuck wrestling Kane or Edge, or even Hogan, it detracts from the size of his penis because his opponents are so shit. Give Angle the belt and all will be fine.............
Guest mickberna Report post Posted August 8, 2002 If you ask me, a great deal of the problems could be solved if we didn't have 12 goddamn PPVs a year. It's freakin' overkill.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted August 8, 2002 Protecting everyone = not going anywhere. PPVs are unexciting because rarely is there a feud with a legit blow-off where, by god, one man won! There's always a cheap finish, or some sort of excuse made. There's build, but payoffs are watered down and have no follow-up.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 8, 2002 *I* think the pay-per-views have gone downhill because the entrance stages have been bad. Survivor Series was just the RAW set pretty much.
Guest meanmaisch Report post Posted August 8, 2002 WWE seems to wait until the week leading into the ppv to sign and build any matchups. They need to start building for the next ppv right away, which means the Raw after the last ppv. They should include Heat and Velocity in this process. The majority of the matchups on their tv programs should have a hand in building up a match, even if it means a simple run-in or an attack. This will keep the fans interested and reminded of the feuds so that the interest in the ppvs build.
Guest RicFlairGlory Report post Posted August 8, 2002 The WWE should look back at 1997 and 1998, and remember how they did things, WITHOUT SMACKDOWN. That was a 4 week, 4 show buildup, and each program should try to run itself like that. That, and PPV backstage interviews, have everyone wear suits or tuxedoes, make everything look big and important again. And change the announce team, nobody likes JR, and no woman will EVER like the King, along with most males. You have to be drunk to chant "puppies" They're old, they're stale, and sitting on a goldmine (the middle card talent). Austin just left. Rockys about to leave. HHH is one of the only "WWF New Generation" thats still around, HBK aside lol. When Hogan, Savage, Piper days all went sour.... they brought up Bret, HBK, even Yokozuna... When Bret, HBK, Yokozuna days went sour... they brought up Austin, Rock, HHH They need to realize the Austin, Rock, HHH days are going sour, and they NEED to bring up Angle, RVD, and Jericho It is the way.. of things... Guest The Hollywood Fashion Plate Report post Posted August 8, 2002 I agree with The Czech Republic's theory. Best entrance set EVER: WMX7 (arguably) Best PPV Ever: WMX7 (arguably) Worst entrance set of 2002: KOTR (reusing the previous year's set? COME ON, electric chairs weren't even used in the promo graphics, and you're just going to erect a 40-foot-tall one and call it a set? Whatever.) Worst PPV of the year: KOTR Coincidence? I think not. just kidding....I think.
Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 8, 2002 However my theory is shot with the sucky Backlash '01's hooked pendulums. That so rules.
Guest LexLugerRules Report post Posted August 8, 2002 I like Backlash, Royal Rumble, and Wrestlemania X8(Bais, because I was there).
Guest DJ Jeff Report post Posted August 8, 2002 The PPVs I've liked thus far are No Way Out because it was the debut of the nWo in the WWE, and Wrestlemania 18 just because it was Wrestlemania, and the Rock vs. Hogan was on the card. Out of those two, I'd have to give the edge to No Way Out.
Guest LexLugerRules Report post Posted August 8, 2002 I also enjoyed Vengeance, and No Way Out for some reason. KOTR was utter shyte.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted August 8, 2002 I liked Rumble alot. I liked Backlash and Judgment Day ENOUGH...but some of that is just because of how they compared to the rest of them. Backlash had an AWESOME Edge/Angle match and a good Tajiri/Kidman match. JD had an AWESOME Eddy/RVD match and a good IMO Austin/Flair & Show match. And a pretty good Angle/Edge match too (not nearly as good as there Backlash match) KOTR was terrible. Aside from RVD/Jericho and Hogan tapping...just terrible. Guest The Czech Republic Report post Posted August 8, 2002 I was at No Way Out, and except for the nWo showing up at the beginning, that was a really crappy show.
Guest LexLugerRules Report post Posted August 8, 2002 At No Way Out... I enjoyed the RVD/Goldust, and the NWO appearence. The Austin/Y2J match was horrible either. I also marked the fuck out when Angle beat HHH.

Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted August 8, 2002 You know what was real good at No Way Out? The tag team turmoil until the last two teams. They had a hell of a match going until APA and Billy and Chuck killed it.

Guest DJ Jeff Report post Posted August 8, 2002 I didn't watch the King of the Ring, but from what I've heard, it sucked majorly. I read the results for Backlash and Judgment Day, and I'm kind of glad I didn't pay the $30 for the PPV. Vengeance I also read the results, and the only good part was the HHH/HBK/Bischoff/Stephanie McMahon segment. Besides that, the matches weren't really all that great by the sounds of it. I'm hoping that SummerSlam is good enough to be classified as the best PPV of 2002 thus far.
