Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 All that...and the Dupps won. No night with Fluff for us. I feel sorry for Mike Tenay.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 Interview with Monty Brown...who is one of the many people that are on deck for a shot at Killings. It occurs to me that the X title match can be *****...and that last segment will still cause the show's overall result to be a thumbs down. What were they thinking? They had a big title change...they have a huge X title match to come... and they do what they just did. Not to mention the stupid Miss TNA crap coming up too. Russo...I swear to God...I'm coming to kill you. Elix Skipper attacks Monty Brown in the interview. Long way around to a match that I already wanted to see. But we got there.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 Malice vs. Don Harris First Blood. They better keep this short. The crowd is actually into it because they are brawling in the crowd. Not the worst brawl I've ever seen. The heat helps. Slash comes out to help Malice and tries to cut Harris...but fails. Harris cuts Slash open...and continues to beat him. Until Malice gets back on track. Harris blades for no particular reason...and loses the match. It was short enough that it didn't bother me...as it wasn't terrible. But maybe that's just because it followed the last segment. Some post match chicanery...Harris did a good blade. And they're done.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 After some stupid Bruce/Taylor stuff... AJ and Lo Ki enter the screen brawling in the back. I don't think they like each other either. Steamboat comes out to ref the JJ/Apolo match. That means the X match is last...and that's a good thing. You know...I feel bad for Steamboat after that Dupp segment too. I feel bad for everyone.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 JJ vs. Apolo Standard back and forth. I think Apolo has potential...but sometimes his size gets in his way. I think he tries to wrestle a step quicker than he can handle...while I applaud the effort...he comes off looking sloppy at times. Apolo is busted open. Jarrett does a couple moves to set up for the figure four then slaps it on. The crowd is chanting "make him tap". That's twice tonight the fans have decided who the face was. I hope Russo was listening. Apolo's arm dropped three times...but for some reason that didn't end the match, I hate when they blow the easy stuff. Superkick takes JJ down but he gets his foot on the rope. That worked on me as I thought Steamboat would miss it for storyline purposes. JJ gets his arm up in a german suplex that saw both men's shoulders down. So JJ wins and gets the title shot. With the exception of Apolo forgetting to lift his arm...I enjoyed that match. After the match Apolo is pissed and is escorted from the building.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 Steamboat tells JJ that he does have the truth...but not in a world title match. HE sets up JJ and The Truth vs. AJ and Lynn for the NWA Tag Team Titles instead. That should be a good match...but it's just odd. Bruce strips Taylor to retain. It was REAL short...thank you for that. But then Bruce gets the mic...and decided to strip down too.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 Don West announces the following for next week as only Don West can: AJ Styles and Jerry Lynn vs. Truth and JJ for the tag team titles. He pimps the AJ Styles T-shirt...which would have made sense had he not just turned heel. He shows more merchandise. I thought he would pass out...but he did not.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 The X guys come out for the main event. Styles vs. Lo Ki vs. Lynn
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 Lynn gets a one count on Lo Ki...which I only point out because I love when one counts happen early in matches. Why would someone get a two after one maneuver? I don't get it either. Lo Ki dropkicked Lynn while he had Styles in the Gory Special...that was cool. Ki moves so quick sometimes it's amazing. Styles passed on a WWE developmental contract...they fired Lynn...but why haven't they ever looked at Lo Ki? Styles is playing the heel the old fashioned way...by his actions in the ring...that's refreshing.
Guest El Psycho Diablo Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 *cough* Lo Ki is probably too "stiff" for the WWE. Which is pretty much bs when they let guys like Holly and Bradshaw stiff people whenever they want. Ki's probably too small. "He ain't a Hoss, Vince. We don't need that little guy."
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 Man...Lo Ki is climbing my favorites list quick. They've worked in some nice three man moves so far... Ki countered two different suplex variation attempts and was able to roll Styles into the dragon sleeper. I really dug that. Nasty DDT off the top from Lynn onto Styles.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 I'm sure you're right about that Diablo.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 Alright...they did all kinds of crazy shit with near falls and the third man rolling out into another near fall and so on. Truly cool stuff.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 The crowd is getting hot as the action continues on fast and exciting. OH MAN Ki had the dragon sleeper on Lynn in the ropes and Styles flipped off the ropes and gave Ki a nasty leg drop. Then Lynn went up top and broke up the fall. KI DOES A STYLES CLASH ON STYLES AND HE KICKED OUT. Good lord...this rules IMO. Lynn does a KI KRUSHER BUT KI kicks out.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 Styles Cradle Piledriver on Lynn...but Lynn kicked out! MAn...oh man... Ki misses a move and takes out the ref. Styles and Lynn back body Ki out of the ring. Styles takes Lynn out with a chair. Ki crawls in and makes the cover...Styles does the spiral tap off the top to break it up...but Ki was still on top and teh ref was woozy so he counted the 3. Lo Ki wins a controversial match. New X champ. JJ and Truth are arguing in the back while Styles attacks Lynn. Lynn gets the better. JJ wants a shot NOW. Killings is coming out. they are holding Truth back. Main Event was awesome...awesome 16+ minute match.
Guest The Superstar Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 Totally agreed. That match ruled. Awesome show...with the exception of the Dupp cup, evening gown and first blood match. AJ Styles is my new favorite, and I love Sonny Siaki (like Rock in the Nation)
Guest Kingpk Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 Ok, my first viewing of NWA:TNA has come and gone. It wasn't that great. The opening 6 man and the X title match were great, ****, and *****3/4 respectively and the title match was decent, but the crap was abundant. There was Russo-stink all over tonight: "Dupp Cup", a man as Miss TNA, and bad promos. Please fire Don West, NOW! Nice "bait and switch" there in the Apollo-Jarrett match, way to piss off the fans. This show gets a thumbs down from me, but I'll give them another chance to redeem themselves next week (hey, only $10, if this was $30, I'd be ROYALLY (heh, I made a pun) pissed.)
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 Alright...since I don't do reviews...I'll try to break down my opinions. 1. I enjoyed the SAT vs. Elvises match. 2. I liked the outcome of the NWA Title match...and there was some nice exchanges...but the match was at too much of a slow Shamrock pace for my tastes at times. 3. I enjoyed JJ vs. Apolo. Better than I thought except for that blown spot. Good effort...logical result. 4. Harris vs. Malice was kept short and the flat out brawl was a nice change of pace from the mat based Shamrock/Truth match, the spot opener, the standard wrestling JJ/Apolo and the fast paced Main Event. They had a little of everything. 5. The Main Event was terrific. That's all I can say. I have to watch again to see all the stuff I missed. 6. That Dupp segment will KILL this show's overall value for me FOREVER. Without that...I would be even happier right now. TERRIBLE. 7. Miss TNA serves no purpose in my mind. But the match wsa 2 minutes...so it doesn't bug me that much. 8. Steamboat was off tonight. His promos didn't work for me at all. Why does JJ's character keep getting screwed? At first it was funny...but after 8 weeks I need a reason now. 9. I like Lo Ki as champion and I love Truth as Champion. No one connected with Shamrock...and I like the idea of Styles and Lynn feuding over the SAME goal while they have their student/teacher feud. 10. I thought that everyone worked hard tonight and it showed. I was pleased with the effort, and for the most part the booking. But that Dupp Cup HAS TO GO. Well...It wouldn't be Russo if he didn't give me something to be REALLY REALLY pissed about.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 In my eyes...the crap will keep coming. The Dupp thing was the worst EVER. But between the main event, the opener and the world title match, along with JJ/Apolo being surprisingly good IMO... It was well worth 10 bucks. I've paid 35 and not gotten that many good matches.
Guest Raven_Effect01 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 Looks as if NWA-TNA's doing a good job to improve their shows, with the exception of the Dupp segment, the Miss TNA match, and the First Blood match. I really enjoyed the AJ Styles vs. Lo Ki vs. Lynn X-Division title match tonight with Lo Ki winning the title.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 That Dupp segment will haunt me forever. It was SOOOOO bad...and it just never ended.
Guest The Superstar Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 Yeah the World title match was slow...and the ending was kinda anticlimatic. But I'll be watching that X-Title match over and over tomorrow. Fucking rules.
Guest The Superstar Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 About the Dupp cup...I knew it was bad when it took 10 minutes just to read the freaking rules. And that match just went on...and on...and on.............................................but I'm ordering next week. Hopefully they learn from their Dupp mistake and nix it.
Guest Kingpk Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 To tell you the truth, I actually was a little intrigued when they started listing the rules, thinking it was dumb, but a fun kind of dumb, but when it got to "Beat up the ticket lady", it all went downhill. Plus, for all this buildup for The Truth, his win was kinda cheap, don't you think?

Guest The Superstar Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 To tell you the truth OMG! PUN! Anyway, when Steamboat got in the ring after Truth's win, I thought he was going to reverse the decision, furthuring the "they're holding me down" angle. and um... HORSEY POO?!?!?!?!?! Oh well, at least I got to see Low-ki win the X-Title.
Guest Kingpk Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 Anyway, when Steamboat got in the ring after Truth's win, I thought he was going to reverse the decision, furthuring the "they're holding me down" angle. and um... Actually, that would make sense, since I was getting a heel vibe from Steamboat. I guess they just wanted to strike while the iron was hot with Killings.
Guest The Superstar Posted August 8, 2002 Report Posted August 8, 2002 Yeah, and there were "Steamboat Sucks!" chants after the Jarrett/Apollo match when he announced the tag match for next week.
