Guest pochorenella Report post Posted August 8, 2002 They made an on-line and regular mail poll, here's the Top Five: Jimmy Hendrix Jimmy Page Eric Clapton Slash Brian May Agree? Disagree? If any of our british friends can post the entire list that'd be great.
Guest GeneMean Report post Posted August 8, 2002 I would drop Slash and Brian May from the top 5 and insert Rhoads and Van Halen. 1. Eric Clapton 2. Eddie Van Halen 3. Jimmy Page 4. Jimi Hendrix 5. Randy Rhoads
Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted August 8, 2002 I'd just drop Brian May and slip in Eddie Van Halen for the No. 5 slot. Hendrix, Page, Clapton, Van Halen, Slash...sounds good to me.

Guest The Man in Blak Report post Posted August 8, 2002 Somehow, I can't really take a list that has Kurt Cobain ranked above Randy Rhoades, Angus Young, Jeff Beck, B.B. King, John Frusciante, and Keith Richards very seriously.
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted August 8, 2002 I can't take a list seriously that doesn't have John Petrucci in at least the top 10.
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted August 9, 2002 Alex Lifeson not in the list?! bloody hell to this list
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted August 9, 2002 Alex Lifeson not in the list?! bloody hell to this list He's 57 bud.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted August 9, 2002 73 - Django Reinhardt 65 - John 5 (Marilyn Manson) 64 - Mike McCready (Pearl Jam) 63 - Head (Korn) 62 - Frank Zappa 59 - Robert Johnson 58 - Nick Drake 55 - Kerry King (Slayer) 51 - Dave Baksh (Sum 41) 49 - Mike Einziger (Incubus) 48 - Billie Joe Armstrong (Green Day) 43 - Tom Delonge (Blink 182 / Box Car Racer) 41 - BB King 40 - Dimebag Darrell (Pantera) 37 - Wes Borland (Limp Bizkit / Eat The Day) 32 - Mick Thompson (Slipknot) 30 - Noodles (The Offspring) That's the bit of the list I have a bit of a problem with. It's abridged of course, unfortunately I can't get all the good guitar players that need a better place in there, but... Tom Delonge better than Billie Joe Armstrong (I'm a Green Day fan and having heard all of Green Day's songs, KNOW Armstrong's a much better guitar player than Blink, sorry Blink boyz... ), Kerry King, Robert Johnson and Django Reinhardt? WES BORLAND, NOODLES and MICK THOMPSON better than Dimebag Darrel AND B.B. King? WTF? That list has some SERIOUS flaws... I mean how did some guy from Sum 41 even make the list, not to mention make it so high?!
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted August 9, 2002 Anyway, as for the top of the list, Kurt Cobain was never really that great of a guitar player though... he did some interesting stuff, but nothing that'd really wow you. As a Hendrix mark, I've got no problem with him being on top, but no way is Page #2... he's one of the most overrated guitar players ever. His stuff is pretty good, but he just runs through the pentatonic scales most of the time, like on his famous "Stairway to Heaven" solo.
Guest mesepher Report post Posted August 9, 2002 man, that list is pathetic... I'd vent some anger but it would do no good, especially since the people polled know jack about playing guitar
Guest Mad the Swine Report post Posted August 9, 2002 At least Brian May is finally getting a little credit, even if it is only in the country that knows him best. May deserves credit not only for the way he would handle a guitar, but for the fact that he built his guitar, The Red Special, when he was a teen and still plays it today. Would've liked to have seen John Deacon somewhere on there. Just because he didn't sing and he played bass to May doesn't mean he wasn't very good.
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted August 9, 2002 Kurt Cobain top twenty? The friggin kid from Sum 41 is on there. Good God man, this is fucking ridiculous.
Guest mesepher Report post Posted August 9, 2002 yes, pure nonsense... to think James Hatfield is ranked number
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted August 9, 2002 81. Dave Mustaine (Megadeth) INJUSTICE~!~ Apparently, nobody's tried to play some old-school 'Deth that made that list... John 5 of Manson got ranked above him...John 5's riffs are the easiest riffs Manson's ever used...why no Gidget Gein if you're talking Manson riffs?
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted August 9, 2002 Wow, some real fuckin' MORONS were polled in this mother. Billie Joe Armstrong ranked far above Kerry King and Alex friggin' Lifeson? Puke on that. Swap Mustaine or King with James Suck Hetfield and Kirk Blows Hammett, and I could almost possibly come to grips with the fact this list was published if you got me drunk enough. There's also a member of slipknot on this list which is absolutely unacceptable. KURT COBAIN RANKED OVER DIMEBACK FUCKING DARRELL?!?!?! good god. the more i look at this list the more I hate it. The only positive is that Blackmore got props.
Guest What? Report post Posted August 9, 2002 I love how Clapton is top five and I'm VERY glad that Morello is top twenty. But Stevie Ray Vaughn not top ten? What the shit? Gary Moore not even top ten?! WHO THE HELL DID THEY POLL?! People getting off the small bus?
Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted August 9, 2002 Hammett is way to high on that list. Hetfield on the other hand is just were i would put him, one of the best rythem guitar players ever existed. Rhoades over Wylde? Well there's a first for everything.
Guest pochorenella Report post Posted August 9, 2002 I was kinda confortable with the Top Five that I knew about, except Jimmy Page so high and no Eddie Van Halen there, but now that the entire list has been posted I really can't say that people have voted with the right frame of mind. Maybe they voted based on popularity, or reference? No way the guys from Blink, Offspring and some others should be ranked there. And why in the blue hell is Ace Frehley not in the list, dammit!!
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted August 9, 2002 I'd put Mustaine where Page is, honestly. Just listening to "Hangar 18" should give you the reason, as it's pretty much one long solo for Mustaine. redbaron, I agree with Rhoades over Wylde. Why? Rhoades TAUGHT Wylde. Teacher should always go over student, unless student is FAR beyond teacher. Wylde is about equal to Rhoades, maybe a LITTLE over, so Rhoades deserves higher ranking. Guest Addy Report post Posted August 9, 2002 What? Where is 'Balsac the Jaws of Death'?
Guest LooseCannon Report post Posted August 9, 2002 I've been thinking. There's no way Kurt Cobain should even be on the list, much less top 15. Hell, Dave Grohl is a better guitar player than Kurt Cobain. This isn't a ranking of best songwriters for christ's sake. I'm gonna have to stop thinking about this, because I think I'm about to have an aneurysm.
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted August 9, 2002 Actually, Wylde is higher than Rhoades.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted August 9, 2002 In which case: FUCKING IDIOTS!~! I'm a Zakk Wylde mark. Hell, when I saw Ozzy last year on the Merry Mayhem tour, I screamed out "Zakk Wylde Is My Fuckin' Idol" a large amount of times. BUT...Rhoades is better than he is. Guest BobbyBacklund Report post Posted August 9, 2002 Lifeson should be way higher, and the thing is a joke with Cobain, and that little shit from Sum41 being so high. Besides, I have people in my fuckin class at NCM that are better than the little rat bastard. Where the hell is SLAV SIMANIC?!?! Million points to someone who at least recognizes him...
