Guest Insanityman Report post Posted August 8, 2002 I've just recently had a problem getting sleep, and it may just be something odd but have you guys found anything that eases you to sleep? Watching movies work but my parents aren't so glad with that idea of me staying up to get sleep... working-out helps and keeps me fit but I don't want to over-work just to get 8 hours. Insomia doesn't carry in genes, does it?
Guest HBK16 Report post Posted August 8, 2002 I would need help too. I have insomia too. Last 4 days I have gotten a total of about 12 or 13 hours of sleep.

Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted August 8, 2002 You just gotta relax, and make sure your eyes are closed for a while. It usually takes me 10 minutes to fall asslep. If you wake up early, just simply take a piss, go back to your bed, and seal off any light that may be coming through.
Guest Retro Rob Report post Posted August 8, 2002 I'm probably the last person that should be replying to this because everynight I'm up until at least 2 and then wake up somewhere in between 10 and 12. BUT before I gave up on trying to fall asleep at a decent hour I stumbled on to a website that gave some helpful tips. A few of them included...not eating in bed, not watching TV in bed (both of which I'm guilty of), a little bit of sex is supposed to help, and most importantly ONLY USE YOUR BED FOR SLEEPING PURPOSES!! That is my biggest problem. I do everything in my bed, therefore when I think of going to bed I don't associate that with sleeping. A few other suggestions were to calm down before going to sleep with baths, candles, etc. That's about all the help I could give you.
Guest Kingpk Report post Posted August 8, 2002 Actually, reading in bed does it for me, as long as I don't get so into the book I'm up till 5.

Guest J*ingus Report post Posted August 9, 2002 I'm in the same boat with Rob, except I've got a bigger paddle: I can't go to sleep until sunrise, and then wake up around 4 in the afternoon. Sucks.

Muscle relaxation techniques. a couple capfulls of Nyquil (nightime formula) If it's stress related just try to let it truly slide for the night
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted August 10, 2002 I've been an insomniac since high school. Some people it goes away, some it doesn't. It doesn't for me. I sleep an average of 5 nights a week, which means the other two, I'm up an at 'em for a full 24+ hour rotation at the least. Here's how my sleep pattern usually looks. On nights(days) I sleep, i'm awake until 7 or 8 AM, sleep until 2 or 3 PM. Days I don't sleep, i get up in the afternoon as usual, and don't sleep until about midnight or early AM the next. I usually crash HARD until noon or so the next day. Funny thing, I don't get too tired though, which led me to believe I had a manic/depressive disorder, but I got checked out and there wasn't a problem at all. I never have much of a problem STAYING asleep, it's just getting there that's the bitch. Chokin' the chicken and rolling up a pinner after a really long hot shower usually does the trick if I'm a little tired. I've since gotten 3rd shift jobs and taken evening and late afternoon classes to accomodate this, so it doesn't pose a real big problem in my life. If I worked days though, forget about it, i'd get fired in 2 days.
Guest Slapnuts00 Report post Posted August 10, 2002 I too have trouble sleeping, and frequently find my self having trouble settling down in bed and falling asleep. One thing that has worked is try taking an antihistamine like Benadryl about an hour before bed. It is actually the ingrediant used in Tylenol PM that makes you drowsy, so just take an antihistamine, and it should help you fall asleep.
Guest NazMistry Report post Posted August 12, 2002 I've gone into a whole Nocturnal Shift. I go to bed when I feel tired and wake up when I'm not. This means I go to bed usually around 6am, and I wake up around 3pm.
Guest Human Fly Report post Posted August 12, 2002 I usually sleep from between 3 - 6 a.m. until 11 a.m. Everyday no matter what I'm up at 11. I have problems sleeping too. For me what helps is watching movies or listening to movies. Wrestling is good too. As long as there is something on that I can concentrate on I usually just drift away. If there is nothing on you'll just lay there in the dark thinking about how you want to sleep but can't and you stay up all night thinking.
