Guest Kingpk Report post Posted August 8, 2002 From E! Online: Buffy" Slaying Goodbye? by Mark Armstrong Aug 7, 2002, 3:15 PM PT Is it time for a new era to Dawn at Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Could happen. With Sarah Michelle Gellar's contract up next May and the UPN star's sights set on the big screen, Buffy producers are weighing their options on whether to wrap the series next season--or, possibly, continue on without its bloodsucker-battling heroine. E! Online's TV maven Wanda reports that the premiere of Buffy's seventh season this fall will feature not only the reopening of Buffy's old school, Sunnydale High, but also an increased focus on Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg), prompting speculation that series creator Joss Whedon may be preparing to hand the stake over to Buffy's little sis. "Yes, that has been given thought," says Whedon, whose contract also is up next season. "Every variation of everything has been given thought. What's going to happen is so unknown to me it's kind of exciting. Anything could happen." Currently, odds are against the return of Gellar for season eight, as she's reportedly ready to bury Buffy and focus on a film career. So far, her big-screen résumé has included only a few projects, most notably this year's Scooby-Doo (playing Daphne) and Harvard Man, 1999's Cruel Intentions and 1997's I Know What You Did Last Summer and Scream 2. But her film slate is filling up, with a Scooby sequel in the works and the comedy A Semester Abroad being developed for her to begin shooting next year, presumably once her Buffy commitment is done. CBS and UPN president Les Moonves told USA Today he's hopeful that the show will return for another season, but negotiations haven't begun. Buffy's move from the WB to UPN had "a price tag," Moonves said, but losing it would be like "NBC losing Friends." As for the upcoming season, Whedon promises more humor and a lighter tone when it returns, not to mention possible appearances by Faith (Eliza Dushku), Big Bads Warren and Glory (Adam Busch and Clare Kramer) and Willow's slain ex-gal-pal Tara (Amber Benson). "We've talked about Eliza Dushku coming back," Whedon tells Wanda. "And I have my fingers crossed we'll see more of her this year, because I love her." And, in one more sign that Dawn may get her chance to fill Buffy's shoes: Whedon tells USA Today that he's hoping to make Trachtenberg's character less whiny. Meantime, those searching for an early Buffy fix can check out Electronic Arts and Fox Interactive's new Xbox game, set to hit store shelves August 19. Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted August 9, 2002 Right... I'm sorry, but I can't look at Ms. Trachtenberg and see ANYTHING other than Harriet the Spy.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted August 9, 2002 hmmm... Lame idea. Pack it up the parties over after this year. If Whedon really wants to keep doing TV...comeup with something else.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted August 9, 2002 Just hearing the way she talks in interviews it seems like Sara has zero interest in returning... Would they rename the show if Buffy wasn't on it? I was expecting season 7 to be the last anyway...don't think the show would work without Buffy. And, in one more sign that Dawn may get her chance to fill Buffy's shoes: Whedon tells USA Today that he's hoping to make Trachtenberg's character less whiny. A little too late for that...I cannot stand the character, I was praying for a season 5 death. I would like to see Faith come back though
Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted August 9, 2002 It would be awesome if Faith comes back. That girl is babalicious. I think Whedon should just let the Sunnydale slayer deal end. If he wants to do another Slayer show, get a whole new cast. I don't think anyone really wants Dawn as the Slayer. I'd rather like to see everything get wrapped up in 7, and maybe Whedon can concentrate on Angel or something totally new.
Guest Bricks Report post Posted August 9, 2002 If it were up to me, I'd just have Faith replace Buffy. She can be flawed, yet fight for good.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted August 9, 2002 Michelle Trachtenberg...the same chick that was only good for playing Nona on "The Adventures Of Pete & Pete" (still on Noggin, check local listings:D)? Wait, why am I replying? I don't even like this show...
Guest Dangerous A Report post Posted August 9, 2002 Faith equals DA continuing to tape Buffy. Dawn equals DA concentrating on more WWE and Puro.
Guest Max Danger Report post Posted August 10, 2002 I say, since I hear this will be the Anya character's final season no matter what, would just end Buffy and transfer Xander and Willow over to Angel, with guest appearances by Giles. Because it's not Buffy without SMG, since she's, ya know, Buffy. But the more Faith the better.
Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted August 10, 2002 If they took out Anya they could finally have Xander and Willow get it on...it's long overdue. And as long as no one from Angel takes off any time soon I think I'd rather they keep that unit as is...the character interactions are getting a lot better. They need to have Giles back for season 7 though
Guest LaParkaMarka Report post Posted August 10, 2002 The show was really weird without Giles around. I marked when he showed up to kick Dark Willow's ass. I hope he comes back. Good ol Giles. But that would sort of defeat the purpose of the whole "Now Buffy has to grow up, by herself" thing. Well, Anya sort of isn't with Xander now, so he could hook back up with Willow. But that sort of ignores the whole "Willow = lesbian" thing. So again, probably won't happen. I really wonder what they're planning on doing with Spike though. Buffy's main problem with him was that he didn't have a soul etc. So are they hooking up? Spike rocks, but the guy belongs with Drusilla.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted August 10, 2002 I just got an idea of how they can keep it as "Buffy: The Vampire Slayer" yet still have Harriet the Spy as the slayer. Write a storyline near the finale in which Buffy's body has to die, but as a last minute showing of love, Dawn offers her body (not like that), and Buffy's soul inhabits Dawn's body. That way, it's technically still Buffy!
Guest mach7 Report post Posted August 11, 2002 Dawn? Noooooooooooooooooooooo, her whiney character traits just killed her for me during the last season. It was almost like "Stephanie McMahon Heat"... I don't think they could ever "turn her" back... Yarg, I'm using wrestling terms when talking about Buffy, someone shoot me!
Guest NotSuper Report post Posted August 13, 2002 No way in HELL should Dawn replace Buffy as the Slayer. Dawn is the personification of "jumping the shark." Though Marti Noxon's writing doesn't help much either.
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 13, 2002 I wouldn't watch the show if Dawn :shivers: was the focal point. I agree with whoever said they should just change the setting and get new people in it when Buffy leaves. Seeing as how a new slayer replaces a dead slayer moving onto a new person would be better then fucking Dawn. But i don't think it should be a totally new cast. At least one person from the current cast should follow the show. If he doesn't want to change the show around like that i'd rather he just end it. His time could be better spent focusing on turning Angel into the great show it wants to be and has shown signs of being but hasn't totally become.

Seeing as how a new slayer replaces a dead slayer moving onto a new person would be better then fucking Dawn Actually...the line of death is with Faith now...Faith replaced Kendra who died at the end of season 2... Joss has so many damn loopholes I also don't think I'd watch if Dawn was the main part of the show
Guest El Satanico Report post Posted August 14, 2002 Oh yeah that's right. Well, if we're lucky Faith will be the new slayer and focal point of the show.
