nWo's former WWF titles......

Recommended Posts

Guest The Mighty Damaramu

You know I was beginning to wonder if they were ever going to mention the fact that every member of the nWo has held a WWF title and they were the first to do something with those titles.

Scott Hall. Former IC champ. First ever 4 time IC champ.

Hulk Hogan. Former world champion. First ever to set the record at 5 titles and then only one to hold that distinction until Bret Hart did it 4 years later in 97. Only Rock, Austin, and Hart have met or surpassed that goal since Hogan set it.

Kevin Nash. Former IC, Tag, and World Champion. First man to win them all in the same calendar year. Only Austin has met this goal.

They need to play up the fact that these men have all held titles in the WWF before. Because sometimes when I watch wrestling I try to see it through the eyes of a newer fan. And looking through the eyes of a newer fan....I have no idea why these guys are so important and why they are such a threat. All I hear is "They destroyed WCW" but I don't even hear how or why.

Now I personally know all of these things. But what about the newer fans!? They're probably confused as all hell.

They haven't mention it, but they really should. I think a video package on all 3 guys in the WWF & WCW would help.

After Smackdown, I'm fresh out of wanting to see NWO video packages.

Yeah, the videos have been a bit much. Although some more historical ones might help show the threat and 'power' of the nWo.

It's like during the invasion, they had the whole WCW video library and never bothered to show why Booker etc might be a legitimate threat. I guess Vince just didnt want WCW footage on his shows.

Actually, there's no reason to mention that fact now. All the nWo is currently involved in is promos and vignettes. The fact that they've held titles would be best brought up when they starting having televised matches. If you need to put over the fact that Hall can hold his own against Austin you could bring up the I/C Title run but if Austin is just beating on Hall backstage, or vice versa, it's rather pointless.

Well all I'm saying is that through the eyes of a casual fan they look like 3 guys from WCW who did something to destroy WCW....what they aren't sure.

You make a good point. I think it's just a case of the WWF playing a little too much to the "smart" fans in expecting everyone to know everything about the nWo. The WWF can't really explain how Hogan, Hall and Nash contributed to the fall of WCW. That would require a lot of explaination about backstage manipulation, booking, etc. that would probably go right over the heads of a lot of the fans and most likely bore them as well. I'm getting sick of the nWo video packages too but I think they should put together another one actually getting more specific with the history of the nWo in WCW. Showing more of what they did rather than those Pre-No Way Out packages only showing Hogan leg dropping Savage and spray painting on people's backs and the "finger poke title change."

Austin won each belt twice in the same calender year...how about that!

I think they should play off their WCW reigns too.  The way Hogan can be portrayed as a bigger cancer is by pointing out that he held the world title and didn't defend it for months.  When he would, the nWo would run in. Make it so that Hogan having the title is a bad thing in everyone's eyes because there are some fans out there...ugh.

They should play off The Outsiders dominance in the tag ranks too.

Eh, I'm not sold on pimping the nWo as anything else other than a force of destruction.  To me, mentioning all of their championship accomplishments takes away from the actual mystique of the nWo...though having Austin make them look like idiots on Smackdown is doing a fine job of that in itself.  Plus, if you show them dominating the title scene in WCW, that obligates you to showing ring work from the nWo, which is probably something that the WWF wants to avoid.

If the WWF wants to play up the nWo in yet another video package, why don't they get a huge collage of all the sheer destruction that the nWo has caused through run-ins and such.  You know, Rey Misterio Jr. as the human dart, beating the tar out of Piper, putting Bischoff through the table...make a video that demonstrates that these guys break things.  That way, you don't have to rush their in-ring progress and you put further emphasis on what the nWo is probably going to be doing most of the time leading up to Wrestlemania: run-ins and breaking things.

My ideas on using title reigns to get them over as heels:

Nash can boast about how he got a WWF Title shot in 1994 only because he threatened to leave for WCW and take Shawn Michaels and Scott Hall with him if he didn't.  Says he used his stroke to get HBK and Hall endless Intercontinental Title shots.  As another poster said, Hogan can boast about winning the WWF Belt in 1993 and taking it with him as he made movies, making the thing, for three months, a "worthless piece of trash."  He can threaten to do it again, setting up a title shot between him and HHH, Austin or Rock, whomever holds it at the time.

However, if make comments like that, they should do it once in a while on RAW or SD, and not make it a daily process.  Shoot comments are good on occasion, but repeated shoots get over the fan's heads and will not result in ratings.

With a video package, the WWF can make the nWo's work-rate look good. Since they would be showing just the finish. They should do some kind of video package on how much a force the nWo was in the WWF & WCW.

When Triple H and Hall begin feuding Hall can talk about how when Triple H defeated 29 men...... he defeated 59 men in World War 3 1997.

I think the wwf should mention all the titles these men have had for the new fans. Hell, I even forgot Nash won the triple crown in a span of 9 months. It will show how dominant these men CAN be. However, the real politics being brought up might just be boring television, so I disagree about Hogan bragging about having the title for months without defending it and stuff of that nature. It will be entertaining to us for like 2 minutes and go over the head of the crowd. I mean look at No Way Out's interview when the fans didn't even get the nWo was working them. The NWO needs to wipe out competitors and take names. I agree there needs to be a video package of Hulk Hogan*okay just for me I want to see the wwf do a Hogan desire video*. I think it might be needed for how they are building up this Hogan/Rock match.

Yes, they should also SHOW how wcw got poisoned by nwo. You know the saying don't sing it bring it?

All I fear is the actual pay off in the matches. Hall no matter what people say in the wwf about him is crucial to the ring aspect of the storyline.
