Tony Gwynn in the booth

What does everyone think of Tony Gwynn's skills in the booth? I really enjoy his commentary and analysis. He brings a relaxed style and a great knowledge of the game. He's as smooth in the booth as he was at the plate.

He's a pretty good announcer. I wouldn't tune in specifically to watch him, but he does add something to the games I do watch with him.

He's gotten much better as the season has gone on. He was stiff and uncomfortable at first but doing Padres games mostly and a little experience has helped him a lot. He'd be a pretty good Baseball Tonight guy as well.

Very enjoyable. Obviously has great baseball knowledge, but does come of as full of himself.

I wonder why he's taking the SD State job. It seems like alot of work.

He's taking the San Diego State job because it's what he wants to do. He was talking about coaching for them before he retired. I think he would be a great manager.

I think his son goes there and he likes working with young players who actually listen. I bet he'll be SD hitting coach in a few years and possibly the manager at some point after that. he seems to have enough people skills and knoweldge of the game to pull of the manager's role.

You can say that again.

I like Gwynn cause I never hear him say "back in my day" and he seems genuinely enthusiastic.

I dig him - he gives a fairly honest (and objective) player's perspective and doesn't BUTT in every other second with "pearls" from his past baseball career.

In fairness to Morgan (who I don't like) it's usually the other moron with the hair over his ears who brings things up like that. For instance every Sunday night game at Fenway they show Evans robbing Morgan in the 75 WS. But all the Barry Bonds blowing from Morgan is really annoying. We get it already! Bonds is a great hitter and you love Willie Mays.

Gwinn seems to me like Ted Williams, a guy who really likes the game and hitting in particular. Gwinn is only a few months removed from playing but I don't see his passion dying because the players change.

It's not just Morgan's announcing. His columns on espn.com are terrible as well.
