Guest LexLugerRules Report post Posted August 9, 2002 I think they should put Boxing on Network TV... I say forcing the viewers to buy Cable, and rent it on Pay per view is asking too much. And thats why Boxing has been at a low point. Remember when Ali, Foreman, Tyson, Spinks, Leonard, and so on where on National TV and got the national exporse they did? I think the Heavyweight Title should be like the superbowl. Imagine if Tyson Vs. Lewis was on National TV, you know how well it will do? Imagine if the upcoming, Fernando Vargas Vs. Oscar De La Hoya fight was on TV, and they hyped it really well. It would do WONDERS for their career. I say ABC, NBC, and CBS should put boxing on their station. Guest Kingpk Report post Posted August 9, 2002 They already do. ABC once in a while has a match on Saturdays. ESPN, which almost everyone has, has fights, Fox Sports Net too. Hell, even Univision has bouts. I don't think boxing on network TV is as lucritive (in both money and ratings) as the other sports. Besides, Don King probbably LOVES charging $50 per PPV. I mean, the Jones Jr's, the Hopkins, the Vargas's, the De La Hoya's, The Lewis, The Tyson's, etc. I remember Rumble In The Jungle was on National TV, imagine how well that did. Imagine how a Lewis Vs. Holyfield, Tyson Vs. Lewis, Tyson Vs. Holyfield, Roy Jones Jr Vs. Bernard Hopkins, Felix Trinidad Vs. Bernard Hopkins, etc. would do on National TV with the hype? Tyson press conferences become bar room brawls, fixed fights, no true chamions, boxers still fighting beyond their primes, and then there is Butterbean. Guest alkeiper Report post Posted August 10, 2002 Lewis is the only heavyweight champion. Anyone else holding a belt has no more claim to the world heavyweight championship then I do. As for the other divisions, Jones, Hopkins, and Vernon Forrest are clear cut champions. There may be some others, but I don't have my copy of Ring Magazine handy. And fights are on PPV because that's where promosters make the most money on their fights. Its too lucrative of a market. I do miss free tv fights though. Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted August 10, 2002 The reason boxing won't work on Network TV is because not only do the promoters want huge money, but also all the big time boxers, even the ones who aren't champions want at least $10 million per fight. You can't earn that kind of money on advertising when it's not a super-huge media event. They could have charged huge advertising fees for a Tyson-Lewis fight, but there isn't anyone big enough to draw the millions and millions of viewers you'd need to make the money to pay a boxer, the promoter and whoever else. The problem here is this...There is only ONE seller left in Boxing...Tyson-Holyfield III. Lewis-Holyfield wont draw flies nor would Lewis-Klitchsen (???).
