WWF Thursday Night Smackdowns

In contrast to the WWF Monday Night Raw thread, I've decided to make a similar thread for Smackdown, which used to be viewed as the hotter show.

 

 

1. Favorite Smackdown Match: Austin vs. Benoit (5/31/01) TIED w/ Austin/Angle vs. Rock/Jericho (11/01). Austin going against Benoit in Edmonton was just such a great, great match. The reason I liked the tag match was because it was a DAMN good Tag Match with hot action, but ruined with the members of each team (WWF, WCW/ECW) coming to interfere.

 

2. Favorite Smackdown Interview: Jim Ross interviews Steve Austin four nights after Wrestlemania 17. A great way to get heel heat by Austin by talking shit and beating the shit to Jim Ross in his hometown. An excellent heel promo by Austin as Jim Ross sells it with good "sympathizing" looks. Listen to the crowd in that one, especially when he says "My name is Stone Cold Steve Austin".

 

3. Overall Favorite Smackdown: November 1st, 2000 Smackdown here in Rochester, NY. I was in third row, and it was the first time Austin had come back to Rochester from the injury rehab. Show opened up with The Rock coming out to his usual good pop, calling out Steve Austin (who got a HUGE pop) and cutting a great promo with him. The night carries on basically reliving the heat between Austin and Rock. Good show to be at live.

1) TLC 3 would be my favorite match, closely followed by HHH/Rock from the 1st Smackdown for the HBK turn alone.

 

2) My favorite promo would be Austin's from the same night as TLC 3. The one where he threatens to leave because the fans are booing him, then comes back, saying he changed his mind. I loved heel Austin.

 

3) Favorite overall...that TLC Smackdown was pretty hot. I'd hafta go with either that or the Smackdown in Philly where Jeff Hardy won the I-C Title from HHH, because I was there, heel Austin was there, we got a title change, Crash got GORED (funniest backstage segment EVER), and it also happens to be the last time I saw Chyna in person. It's a toss up between those two.

1.) Tough Choice here, a lot of interesting things happen on smackdown. Benoit Vs. Stone Cold in June 2001 was great, or the TLC 3 match.

 

2.) Interview: Hogan's the thursday before J. Day 2002. 8 minute ovation unclipped, and no cheap inserted cheering. (actually that was kinda like a standing ovation but it was during a intervew of his lol)

 

3.) The 9-13-01 Smackdown. The first time after 9-11 a big event of the WWF's caliber was held.
