Ring of Honor: What can you tell me about it?

Recommended Posts

Guest Downhome

I've heard of it, but have never seen it. I was just now reading a column in The Wrestler, and they began to mention it. All they said is that the company EXCLUSIVLY puts on ONLY matches with a clean finish, and each match begins and ends with a hand shake. If this is true, it's like a dream come true for me. That sounds exactly like Puroresu, in America! So come on, what can any of you guys tell me about this group, where can I get some tapes of them, who performs there, and if what I've heard is really true!

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

It's RFVideo's promotion, owned and operated by Feinstein. Low-Ki is their champion, and the usual indy high-fliers populate it (AJ Styles, Chris Daniels, American Dragon, SATs, Briscoes, etc).

Notable Performers: Low Ki, American Dragon, Christopher Daniels, THe Briscoes, Spanish Announce Team, Red, Quiet Storm.

Great wrestling with an emphasis on workrate and actual wrestling, not storylines. There's only one real storyline going on, and it rules. Its Chris Daniels disobeying the Code of Honor (mandatory handshake after the match), and Low Ki upholding it.

Their most recent event was capped off by a 60 Minute Iron Man Match which Low Ki won, making him their champion.

You can learn more about the promotion from (http://www.rohwrestling.com) and (http://www.rfvideo.com).

If you are a workrate freak (like I am, to an extent), you'll love this promotion.

First off, thanks for responding. I went to their site, and read a bit. Here is my reaction of that...

...holy sweet Jesus Christ! Here is what they POST on their very own web site...

The Code Of Honor

Ring Of Honor has a goal to present wrestling as a sport, not sports entertainment. In order to achieve this goal, ROH will be based around this Code Of Honor. These five Laws Of Honor are intended to promote sportsmanship, respect and honor inside the wrestling ring. The Laws Of Honor will allow ROH competitors to produce the most athletic matches possible. These are the sacred rules that will define Ring Of Honor's product. The Laws Of Honor are:

-Competitors must shake hands before and after their match.

-No interfering in matches or having others interfere on your behalf.

-No harming a referee or causing others to harm an official.

-No sneak attacks.

-Any violation in the ring that results in a disqualification.

...what in the hell is this, my each and every Pro. Wrestling dream coming true!? I have been dreaming of such as this for YEARS, and you mean to tell me it actually EXISTS!? Why have I not been told this yet!? Why do not more people know about it!? Or better yet, why in the hell do they not have a TV deal yet!? Here is more from their site...

-ROH is eliminating the 10 count referees make when the combatants fight outside the ring. Basically, it's stupid. The counts are always ignored and the refs always have to come up with excuses to break the count that don't really make sense. It really just makes the refs look bad. The 10 count is outdated and meaningless. Instead, ROH allows fighting on the floor. If the referee feels there is excessive fighting on the floor, he will give the competitors a warning to return to the ring. If the fighters do not return to the ring in a suitable amount of time, the referee can issue a DQ. It will be very difficult to be DQ'ed in this way.

When we say excessive fighting, it really has to be excessive, meaning the majority of the match is on the floor. ROH made sure to hire two of the best referees in the business in John Finegan and Mike Kehner. They are both veteran officials and ROH has total faith in their abilities. Having a good referee is one of the most important, yet overlooked things in a match.

...that just sounds perfect, I LOVE this. Here is yet another quote from their site...

-In tag team matches, a tag is only legal if the man on the outside is grasping the tag rope, which will be attached to every corner. This will not apply to Lucha Style tag team contests.

...ok, now we are just kidding me! They actually have the "tag team rope rule" that I loved so much from back in the day!? Holy crap, this is just too unreal.

This is like, just knocking me for a loop. I had no idea such as this existed. How long has the company been around anyhow? This is like, taking the best that I love from Puroresu and old school wrestling here in the US, and stirring it all together to make my dreams come true. I'm just in shock, please, do NOT wake me if I'm dreaming, as I'm on my mission to find as much of this on tape as I possibly can!

They began on February 23rd, 2002. The main event was Christopher Daniels vs. American Dragon vs. Low Ki, in what I thought was match of the year until the NWA TNA Week 2 X-Division match topped it.

Aside from that on the card was an Eddie Guerrero vs. Super Crazy WHICH ROCKED THE HOUSE.

I'm so going when they come to Wakefield on the 24th.

Basically, since Feinstein and everyone who works for him are all smart mark puro fans, they put together a company which ran exactly like they wanted to see one run (i.e., mostly ripping off All Japan's no-BS style in the 90's).

The talent may be excellent, and the concept may be good, but the promoter is a dickhead.

I will never give a dime to Feinstein, so I will never buy a ROH tape. It is that simply.

I do not know about him, so why is he a "dickhead" as you so brilliantly put it?

Guest .3.0.7.
Does anyone sell ROH tapes, for say, cheaper?

fubar has the first few events, and will likely keep getting them in as they occur. i got the first two shows on tape together for 15 bucks, a lot better deal than rfvideo (i think it's 25 bucks for one show).
