Guest justsoyouknow Report post Posted August 11, 2002 Does anybody out there know of any good acoustic songs? I've got the basics going, but really, my friends are no help, since the only bands they can think of that have acoustic elements are Dashboard Confessional, Dave Matthews Band, and Tenacious D (I mark for the D). Any help on this one, oh smusic (smart music) people?

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted August 11, 2002 Pantera's Suicide Note part one and Acid Bath's Scream of the Butterfly come to mind instantly as far as heavier stuff goes. For classic rock, gotta go with Babe I'm Gonna Leave You, from Zeppelin's first album. The intro to La Villa Strangiato by Rush is wicked as well, The Trees by Rush is pretty cheesy, but has some good acoustic work. Alex Lifeson is the epittamy of an underrated guitarist. Check out the Hendrix: Blues album for some AWESOME acoustic work, too.
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted August 11, 2002 Ummm...Nevermore's "Believe In Nothing" is about 3/4 acoustic... Just go find a Days Of The New song. I believe they're all acoustic.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Report post Posted August 11, 2002 Uh...instead of finding metal groups occasionally doing acoustic songs, listen to Elliott Smith or Matt Pond PA.
Guest Kinetic Report post Posted August 11, 2002 I'd suggest Leonard Cohen if I thought any of you would like him.

Guest Incandenza Report post Posted August 11, 2002 Lou Reed's "Baton Rouge." Reed's output has been mindnumbingly erratic over the last decade, but this song, a haunting number about divorce from his 2000 album, Ecstasy, shows why he still deserves the genius label, even if a third of that record--as well as the majority of his Set the Twilight Reeling disc--makes you wander why he just doesn't retire. Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Report post Posted August 11, 2002 Anything from Eric Clapton's unplugged album is gold. Get it. Also, Nirvana's The Man Who Sold The World and Where Did You Sleep Last Night are both great acoustic songs.
Guest HHH's 'Roid Needle Report post Posted August 11, 2002 Tons of Sublime shit: Poolshark, Boss DJ, Mary, Don't Push, Saw Red, Rivers Of Babylon, Little District, Marley Medley, just to name a few. ALSO, if you're looking just for good acoustic shit, download some acoustic shows of a band called "Bargain Music", at www.bargainmusicbitch.com, I reccomend "KT's Birthday Party" and Lava Lounge Acoustic. One of the best singers you'll ever hear. Covers some Ween occasionally, damn fine stuff.

Guest DrainYou42 Report post Posted August 12, 2002 Alice in Chains Unplugged album is quite good, as is Neil Young's.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted August 12, 2002 I downloaded an acoustic studio version of Marilyn Manson's "Coma White" that was simple, but passable. Dave Matthews does a lot of acoustic stuff as well, and don't quote me on this but I believe Everyday was his first release that used mainly electric guitar instead of acoustic. Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted August 12, 2002 Oh yea, also, if you're into bootleg collecting, there's a yearly concert called the Bridge School Benefit Concert, which is acoustic only. Established by Neil Young, the concert brings in all types of rock/alternative artists, from Foo Fighters to Pearl Jam to Beck to Red Hot Chili Peppers to The Who, and of course many more that I can't remember (don't forget Neil himself!). Guest Cerebus The Aardvark Report post Posted August 12, 2002 Elliott Smith is really good. Check out just about any of his stuff, as it's generally all acoustic, and all good. And Cohen is God. Songs rules the Earth. Therapy? has some excellent acoustic versions of several of their songs, particularly "Misery", "Screamager", and "30 Seconds". Check 'em out.
