Koji Kanemoto, Jado & Gedo beat El Samurai, Minoru Tanaka & Masahito Kakihara (13:13) when Kanemoto used a standing ankle hold on Samurai. 3. Shiro Koshinaka & Jushin Thunder Liger beat Hiro Saito & Tatsutoshi Goto (7:46) when Koshinaka used a powerbomb on Goto. 4. Kenzo Suzuki & Hiroshi Tanahashi beat Yutaka Yoshie & Blue Wolf (11:05) when Suzuki used a knee attack on Wolf. 5. Tadao Yasuda & Ryushi Yanagisawa beat Manabu Nakanishi & Masayuki Naruse (3:49) when Yanagisawa used a sleeper hold on Naruse. 6. Yuji Nagata & Kensuke Sasaki beat Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Osamu Nishimura (13:05) when Nagata used the Nagata Lock II on Nishimura. 7. G1 Climax - Final: Masahiro Chono beat Yoshihiro Takayama (20:23) with a Yakuza kick. If Takayama was just going to job, why the hell didn't Tenzan get to to the the finals? This had BETTER set up a Tenzan vs Chono feud.
Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted August 11, 2002 http://www.ichibanpuroresu.com/index2.html There does seem to be a point to all of this... read the results with storyline from ICHIBAN. I think that Chono had to win this years tournament because he is the leader of Team 2000 and he needed to hold off the 'foreign enemies' represented by Takayama. Without this, NJPW and Team 2000 couldn't have joined together against the foreign enemies like they have. Tenzan will overtake Chono eventually and rise in the company when the time is right. If he had risen now then Chono would have looked weak going into this big feud against the MMA / NOAH guys, and that wouldn't have worked in the grand scheme of things. All in all, despite this unexpected result from the tourny, I am very interested to see where NJPW goes from here, and I'll certainly keep watching.
Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted August 11, 2002 Well, although i thought Tenzan should have won, Chono is the next best thing.
