Anyone know if Powerpuff Girls or The West Wing is getting a DVD release?

Power Puff Girls has several DVDs out at about $15 a piece.

Howard Stern E! show should release uncensored DVDs, just like Jerry Springer Too Hot For Tv.

I own Seasons 3, 4, and 5 of The X-Files and they're really great.

And I would buy Seinfeld DVDs in a flash.

Do you people even own VCRs?

I just do NOT understand this TV show on DVD crap. First of all....it's TV. It's only gonna look so good. It's not like they're gonna put it on DVD and all of a it sudden it like digital Attack of the Clones or something. It's just TV.

I mean people pay these crazy prices to get ONE season of the Simpsons on DVD when the Simpsons is in syndication and comes on TV about 4 or 5 times a DAY. Just hit record and save 50 dollars.

I don't get it.

It's simple really, if you are a big fan of a specific show, and want all the episodes in the order they were released, withOUT commercials, buying the season box sets on DVD is perfect. Also, some of them include deleted scenes, commentary and more. If it wasn't for DVD, I would probably never have seen the old Transformers series again or the Planet of the Apes TV series.

As for taping shows. First off, VHS quality sucks, especially if you record off TV. 2nd, if you wanted to tape the entire first and second season of The Simpsons, it would take forever to get them in a specific order, plus, it would take up a lot of tapes if you wanted them recorded in decent quality. 3rd, you can't tape shows off TV if they aren't run in syndication anymore.

No one is forcing you to buy these television DVD sets, so why complain about them?

Is Babylon 5 out on DVD? If not, then that's number one.

Next, I'd like to have Space Ghost Coast to Coast

Additional minuses for VHS:

--tapes deteriorate w/ increased viewing/rewinding/FF'ing

--trial & error while rewinding/FF'ing to find a particular show in the middle of the tape

1. If you're a fan of a specific show and want all the episodes in the order they are shown without commercials, record them off TV as you watch them and hit pause when the commercials come on.

2. I've gotten almost the entire Transformers run and will probably finish it off in the next couple of weeks simply by downloading them, burning them to VCD and then dubbing them to tape. So far I haven't spend a penny to get them. As far as I know only a few episodes are on DVD. So there's a cookie for me. Planet of the Apes TV series....nobody should EVER want that anyway. haha

3. VHS quality is just fine, especially for TV. I mean come on, you need a badly animated cartoon like the first season of the Simpsons to look good?

4. For it taking forever to copy off TV. EXACTLY. That way you wouldn't get season 1 or 2. You'd have the whole damn thing and you wouldn't have to spend all that money just to get a few episodes with some crappy special features you'll only watch once, if that much.

5. Has there ever BEEN a show that's not in syndication released on DVD? Transformers is the only I know of but it was on for years and it's available on VHS home video and downloadable like I said.

I'm not complaining, I just don't get it. I just can not fathom spending all that money to get something that you can get for free every single day. I could even see renting the DVDs and copying them, but buying them? No, that I can't understand.

1. Shows that are in syndication are reedited and cut by a minute or two so that more ads can be inserted, thus you aren't getting the "real" episode if you're worried about that. For something like, say, Star Trek: TNG, the episodes on DVD would be free of the TNN logo and that annoying bar at the bottom.

2. I actually have the entire run of Transformers on tape thanks to winning an eBay auction a while back. I COULD have downloaded it to a VCD, but if it's a VCD recorded from a VHS copy it's nowhere near as clean as the DVD remasters (they have an extra showing this, actually).

3. No, but it's interesting to hear the creator's takes on a series.

4. Special features help to increase the value of rewatching an episode. Sure, you may only listen to the commentary once, but that ONE time may make you watch something TEN more times, because they may say things that make you look out for other things.

5. Robotech and Battle of the Planets. Again, I have the entire fhe run of Robotech on VHS, but that doesn't stop me. And with Transformers, the entire run is NOT commercially available on VHS. There are things like the Movie and Rebirth and select episodes on VHS, but not an entire season.

Why do I buy DVDs? Maybe it's the ability to stop a movie anytime and check out an associated "making of" featurette on the movie. Maybe it's because they're configured to work with my home theatre system, as opposed to just blasting sound out of it. Maybe it's because I just want to hear what the director has to say about the technical aspects of a movie. Maybe it's just because I think it's a damn good medium and I'm willing to spend my hard-earned money to support it.

Anyways, I'm just curious, Lethargic, but do you own a DVD player?

I'd love if they put Angel, The Shield, and Parker Lewis Can't Lose on DVD

Angel---don't have WB...so I never saw season 1, I got to see half of season 2...and I got season 3 in a trade

The Shield---my FX comes in like crap...so I didn't want to tape them for myself

Parker Lewis Can't Lose---my favorite show as a kid...I'd love to see it again.

And I don't mind buying shows on DVD if it's something I can watch regularly...The Sopranos, Buffy

Are the Simpsons episodes on DVD uncut?

Cause here in Canada, most of the episodes on The Comedy Network have scenes you see on the first showing, and then edited out later (Like Marge joining in the "You Don't Win Friends With Salad" dance in the Lisa becomes a vegetarian episode or Bret Hart calling Mr. Burns a pencil neck geek in the episode where Lisa helps Burns become environmental).

Duh. Of course I own a DVD player. Hell, I said I burnt the shows to VCD and recorded them. I couldn't do that without a DVD player. But I own it for DVDs. Not TV. If I wanna watch TV, I'll just watch TV. And I'm not saying that I'd buy VHS of TV shows either, it's not a DVD thing. I'm saying I don't get any of it. Recording the shows when they come on works fine for me and I can save that money to buy something worth buying that I can't get everyday for free.

Everybody go check out my movie list in the DVD list thread. I've got a assload of TV shows and I'll sell the HELL out of em if anybody wants them. I'm above buying...not above selling. haha

So you want me to go back in time? This is 2002 in case you didn't know.

I never said VHS is better than DVD quality wise. All I'm saying is I ain't gonna pay a lot of money to get something that comes on for free, every single day like the Simpsons.

And quality? Come on. You're putting TV on a DVD. TV is the worst quality anyway. Putting it on DVD isn't all that special, a little better but not much. It was still created for TV. You can't put shit on a plate and expect it to become steak.

And until there comes a day when DVD becomes a viable recording medium and I can get like 15 hours of movies recorded onto a little disc.....VHS far from sucks.

You CAN watch VCDs on your computer. Which is why I asked. I needed to know where you were coming from - it sounded like you were entirely anti-DVD.

Yeah but if I was gonna watch it on my computer I wouldn't put it on disc then watch it. That would be an extra step and I'm too lazy for that.

Season 1 of what?

I'm sure both Seinfeld and West Wing will be getting the DVD treatment, and both will be suitably overpriced.

NewsRadio, Quantum Leap, and Magnum, P.I. are on my dream list of TV shows that should be ported to DVD. Northern Exposure too, but I would only buy the first 3 seasons.

Yes, it would be nice to travel back to 1990 and tape the original non-syndicated Fox eps of The Simpsons, but it's just more convenient to give Best Buy my $35 in exchange for a nice little green package (with commentaries for every episode).

I admire your frugality, and yeah, when I was a teenager, I'd tape all the episodes of whatever, pausing out all the commercials and writing geeky liner notes on little sheets of paper which I'd fold up and shove in the videotape box. But when you have a job & shit, who has time to run home, make sure your tape is rewound to the perfect spot, sit there, hit pause when the commercials come on, etc...? It's just a matter of convenience, plus DVD is a better archival format than VHS. You never have to worry about the tape getting chewed up, thus ruining weeks of careful taping/pausing.

Im not sure if the episode of the Simpsons where Homer goes to NY will be on the DVD set (thats several seasons down the road), but they aren't running that episode in Syndication any more. Im pretty sure that a lot of shows are run in syndication that are missing episodes. I know for a fact that most of them are different from the original airing to fit into a syndication time slot.

I'm going for the Simpsons sets and the Buffy sets, mainly because they are both good shows, and 30 bucks for 10-20 hours worth of TV is worth it. A hell of a lot more value than 20 bucks for a 2 hour movie.

Im also getting 24's Season 1 set just because it was the best show I've seen in a long time (probably the best since early seasons of X-Files) and its only 40 bucks on Amazon. I would get the X-Files sets, but $100

is too pricey for me right now.

I think it's a safe bet that "The City of New York vs. Homer Simpson" will be on the DVD. I don't really see the set being labeled "The Complete Ninth Season (except for 1)".

I agree, the X-Files (and ST:TNG & Sopranos, for that matter) sets are too expensive for me. But once I start making lots of $$, I'll be reserving shelf space for those.

I didn't tape shit when I was a teenager. I wish I did, I wouldn't have to be searching for all this crap now.
