It's not like they're gonna put it on DVD and all of a it sudden it like digital Attack of the Clones or something. It's just TV. I mean people pay these crazy prices to get ONE season of the Simpsons on DVD when the Simpsons is in syndication and comes on TV about 4 or 5 times a DAY. Just hit record and save 50 dollars. There are things like the Movie and Rebirth and select episodes on VHS, but not an entire season. Why do I buy DVDs? Maybe it's the ability to stop a movie anytime and check out an associated "making of" featurette on the movie. Maybe it's because they're configured to work with my home theatre system, as opposed to just blasting sound out of it. Maybe it's because I just want to hear what the director has to say about the technical aspects of a movie. Maybe it's just because I think it's a damn good medium and I'm willing to spend my hard-earned money to support it. Anyways, I'm just curious, Lethargic, but do you own a DVD player? Cause here in Canada, most of the episodes on The Comedy Network have scenes you see on the first showing, and then edited out later (Like Marge joining in the "You Don't Win Friends With Salad" dance in the Lisa becomes a vegetarian episode or Bret Hart calling Mr. Burns a pencil neck geek in the episode where Lisa helps Burns become environmental). I never said VHS is better than DVD quality wise. All I'm saying is I ain't gonna pay a lot of money to get something that comes on for free, every single day like the Simpsons. And quality? Come on. You're putting TV on a DVD. TV is the worst quality anyway. Putting it on DVD isn't all that special, a little better but not much. It was still created for TV. You can't put shit on a plate and expect it to become steak. And until there comes a day when DVD becomes a viable recording medium and I can get like 15 hours of movies recorded onto a little disc.....VHS far from sucks. I'm sure both Seinfeld and West Wing will be getting the DVD treatment, and both will be suitably overpriced. NewsRadio, Quantum Leap, and Magnum, P.I. are on my dream list of TV shows that should be ported to DVD. Northern Exposure too, but I would only buy the first 3 seasons. I admire your frugality, and yeah, when I was a teenager, I'd tape all the episodes of whatever, pausing out all the commercials and writing geeky liner notes on little sheets of paper which I'd fold up and shove in the videotape box. But when you have a job & shit, who has time to run home, make sure your tape is rewound to the perfect spot, sit there, hit pause when the commercials come on, etc...? It's just a matter of convenience, plus DVD is a better archival format than VHS. You never have to worry about the tape getting chewed up, thus ruining weeks of careful taping/pausing. Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted August 13, 2002 Im not sure if the episode of the Simpsons where Homer goes to NY will be on the DVD set (thats several seasons down the road), but they aren't running that episode in Syndication any more. Im pretty sure that a lot of shows are run in syndication that are missing episodes. I know for a fact that most of them are different from the original airing to fit into a syndication time slot. I'm going for the Simpsons sets and the Buffy sets, mainly because they are both good shows, and 30 bucks for 10-20 hours worth of TV is worth it. A hell of a lot more value than 20 bucks for a 2 hour movie. Im also getting 24's Season 1 set just because it was the best show I've seen in a long time (probably the best since early seasons of X-Files) and its only 40 bucks on Amazon. I don't really see the set being labeled "The Complete Ninth Season (except for 1)". I agree, the X-Files (and ST:TNG & Sopranos, for that matter) sets are too expensive for me.
