Before you get Maxim bear in mind that the subscriptions don't come with the polybagged special inserts that they occasionally have. Mind you, that really shouldn't bother you all that much, since you save about $30-40/year with a subscription, but I just thought you should know.

Hey starvenger, what's the difference between Maxim/Stuff US and the Canadian one with the maple leaf on it?

I used to pick alot of magazines.

These days, I'll read a friends copy of White Dwarf (Games Workshop magazine/self-pimping publication), CGW or PC Gamer if there is a review of something I'm thinking of buying or a demo I want to try.

Sometimes I pick up Discover if the cover story grabs my attention.

I used to pick up Omni occassionally, because they'd have an occassional short story by Harlan Ellison or someone like that.

The one with the Maple Leaf has some Canadian ads in them, replacing all the cigarette ads, I believe. Same content, though.

I read Giant Robot too.

As well as:

Fangoria

Asian Cult Cinema

Bizarre (where you can find it; it's hard to get in certain places due to its content & cause it's an import)

and Toyfare (because unlike the Wizard people, they haven't sold out)

Maxim

FHM

Playboy

The Source

XXL

Rolling Stone

That's all I can think of right now.

Yeah I know, I had a Stuff subscription a while back...the only thing you miss out really are the top 100s, I can live without the callenders and whatnot

Cover price is $3.99 for Maxim...a script is $14.97

Stuff $9.97

Blender $9.97 (I think)

AP $9.99

The savings are worth not getting the little things

Same here. If I REALLY want to get the inserts I can buy one off the newstands and give the extra copy to my brother or something...

I get Uncut the most out of those three, it has a great range of articles and reviews of music, film and books.

Occasionally I'll pick up a PWI family magazine

Also occasionally I'll pick up OPM (Official Playstation Magazine) if the demo disk looks good.

I used to read Wizard, Toyfare, & InQuest all the time back when I had the cash for that sort of thing.
