What's your favorite Rocky? I even included five for you crazies out there.

I've always been partial to 3. Apollo was great in the first two, but there's just something about Mr. T that I liked. Plus it had Eye of the Tiger, a great work out song, then again the comp of all the movies' songs is a great CD.

Rocky is clearly better than its sequels. It isn't even close.

Rocky 2 is essentially a remake, except Rocky wins in the end.

Rocky 3 is the best of the sequels, but it loses steam after Mickey's death.

4 & 5 are just horrible.

4 is my favorite for 2 reasons:

DOLPH

and

LUNDGREN

1 and 3 are close, but it's all about 4.

"I vill crush you."

And it's got James Brown! The look on Drago's face when Apollo comes down with the whole show going on...priceless.

The first Rocky kicks major ass, but Rocky III with "Eye of the Tiger" on it is second place for me.

Rocky IV had a monster soundtrack, a too short but good main event and that's about it.

I always think to myself that Rocky V never happened.

I mark for the Apollo Creed American Entrance & The Russian Training Sequence.

Bps, I hate 5, but its one redeeming quality is the press conference after Tommy Gunn wins the title and they just eat him alive.

it was close, but i went with 3 .i love the retraining by Apollo..

4 and 5 only look good when you realize there have been discussions for part 6 and Rocky vs Rambo

Whatever Ivan hits . . . he destroys.

If he dies, he dies.

Two great Rocky 4 quotes.

The first Rocky had the best story.

You know, #5 IN THEORY should have been good. It's the natural progression of the Rocky Saga... Rocky becomes the teacher and must face the student who betrayed him.. But somewhere along the way it sucked ass. Maybe it was Sly Jr. being a complete queer... I dunno.

Rocky III for me.

Definitely the first one, especially because he loses. Screw happy endings.

I'm not really a big fan of the Rocky movies but I'll go for Rocky III as my favourite. It's good to see that Rocky V has 0.00% of the votes.

The first is the best movie, but I really like 3 and 4 as well. "I must break you."

As far as quotes go, nothing beats "Hey, woman! Hey, woman! I bet you go to sleep at night, wondering what it's like to be with a REAL MAN!"

I voted for III.

I picked III, but even when Im not "Gringo", that USSR VS USA thing was really good.

Like someguy said, the soundtrack on IV rules, and the training sessions rules in so many levels.

I actually love all five films. The first two are all about Rocky being this average joe who defies impossible odds to really make it. But once at the top of the world, where is there to go? To mythical legend, of course, which is what 4 and 5 were all about. Rocky reads a lot like ancient mythology, he's sort of Hercules like. 5 was all about him getting knocked down a few pegs and having to return to his roots to find himself again. It was kind of a rehash of 4 in that regard but on a grander scale. I do agree with bps that the last half hour is gold and the street fight scene is just staged so dramatically. (note Tommy Morrison who plays Tommy Gunn is the great grandson of John Wayne)

Rocky is appealing by being very basic and playing off of classic literary themes. Clear good guys and bad guys with conflict being built around the conquering of the seemingly indescturtable heel. Old enemy becomes friend, friend becomes enemy. Finding the diamond in the rough, all that stuff. Plus, you cannot beat the choreography of the fight scenes. It's like John Woo meets Gene Kelly.
