Goldberg headed to All Japan?

Recommended Posts

Guest Dangerous A

This is from the Observer site today:

There has been a ton of press in Japan regarding Bill Goldberg, including the announcement that he will be appearing at the 8/28 Pride/K-1 show. The hint is they are looking for an opponent for him, but the reality is he obviously won't be fighting on the show but has agreed to appear there.

There is talk of him doing pro wrestling matches with Taiyo Kea and Satoshi Kojima on All Japan's shows on 8/30 and 8/31. All Japan is attempting to finalize the deal and announce it at a press conference as early as tomorrow.

Can this be true? Although I dread what a Goldberg match with Kea or Kojima is gonna be like, will this put help put All Japan on top of the Japanese scene? (as if they aren't there already with the slide of NJ and the other indy's)

Um, no?

All Japan isn't going "on top" anywhere - New Japan is still on top, and Goldberg isn't going to be enough to change that. If NOAH suddenly folded and Misawa & Co. went back crawling, you'd have some stiff competition, but let's not fool ourselves here. This is still 2000 WWF vs. WCW we're talking about.

I dunno if its WWF/WCW standards.

Dude they don't NEED Goldberg, they have Mutoh who is FAR FAR more over there.

Fear the Shining Wizard dammit!

NJPW may be on top in terms of interesting product, but AJPW is selling out left and right. AJPW is destined to fail though, Mutoh and Tenryu are their only big draws, Kea and Kojima are getting burried left and right.

Goldberg has been booked for these shows, it is official. And I, for one, are VERY interested to see what happens.

Having said that, if he buries Kojima and Kea just to pop a decent rating I might have to shoot someone.

It's too bad Dangerous K isn't healthy enough to stiff the living fuck out of GettingOldberg.

I don't care who you are, I wouldn't want to trade stiff shots with Goldberg. Yeah, Kawada once broke Misawa's orbital bone with a kick, but Goldberg did the same thing to Scott Steiner with a punch, while wearing those padded shootfighting gloves. And don't forget Bret Hart.

Difference being, the All Japan/NOAH guys work "tight", not stiff. They're hitting each other really damn hard, but in a controlled manner. Goldy on the other hand is uncontrolled and dangerous, and likely to literally knock you out of your boots.

That's what worries me about the guy coming in. One sloppy superkick and bam there goes Kojima's career due to chronic concussions.

About this "Tight" shit. It's bullshit. AJPW REDEFINED stiff. Ask fucking Vader or Kawada. AJPW has ahd the biggest number of matches stopped because they men began shooting on each other, than ANY promotion EVER.

That's if WWE ponies up to his asking price. All Japan and Mutoh are paying Goldberg whatever he wants. This could also be a negotiating ploy by Goldberg to get WWE to give up the big dough. With the new news on Austin, Goldberg could be brought in sooner than later.

I think Goldy just might try to put on some damn fine matches, in hopes that WWE really begins to take notice. This will say alot about how he progressed from his injury, and his state in the ring at this time.

You say that like it's a good thing?

Which matches are these, by the way?

Too many to name. Ray Traylor's debut is a pretty good example. His opponent was told to go easy on him, because Ted Dibeaise had been forced to retire because of injuries sustained on an AJPW tour. Ray came out, and wrestled SO stiff that the other guy began shooting on him and the whole ended up a no contest.

I say it like that because you underestimate just HOW stiff that promotion really is. NOAH is stiff, (More so, with Vader) but AJPW is insane.

I've seen the tapes, and I know what they do, and I still stick with my original assertion that I'd rather have ten matches with Kawada than one with Goldberg. Not since Takada shootkicked Choshu in the face was there anything quite as brutal as what Goldberg layed Bret out with.

Just out of morbid curiosity, tape exists of that match in particular, right? Goldberg v. Bret, that is.

And when did Takada "shoot kick" Choshu in the face, exactly? Is everyone in this thread just making up shit whenever they feel like it? Maybe I should talk about all the ***** matches Akira Hokuto had against Lady Apache whilst working for AAA in 9/93...

Of course, it was at WCW's biggest show of the year (their WrestleMania), Starcade 1999! If you want, I'll dig up a clip of it and post it, if you are really that morbid. :o :o :o

Whatever. Goldberg sucks, and hasn't had a good singles match since NINETEEN FUCKING NINTETY-EIGHT, so I, for one, won't be checking out the tapes.

And New Japan is still higher up on the food chain than AJPW, bar none. This is a company that didn't even have their show until recently.

And yes, I think stiffing Goldberg would be quite dangerous, because he would probably injure someone, be it himself or his opponent. However, seeing as it's Kea and Kojima, I'd say they won't have too much trouble toning it down. The matches will still guzzle man gizz like Pat Paterson, but hey, that's a given.

I pray that both Mutoh and AJPW just burn up and die somewhere as soon as possible. ALL JAPAN, FUCK YOOOOOOOOUUUUU!!!!!!

Well, I was pretty sure it was those two. It was a six-man tag in NJPW in the mid-80's. The guy who I believe was Choshu had the guy who I believe was Takada in a single-leg boston crab or something similar, and Takada waited for an opportune moment and then whipped around and kicked him in the face SO hard that the match completely broke down with both wrestlers trying to beat the shit out of the other.

Just a note, the rectum has never been a good communication device. Might want to look into that...(or not).

I'm almost possitive that you're refering to Akira Maeda. Definitely.

You're thinking of everybody's favorite dinner guest Akira Maeda, not Takada. And it's only a shoot if both guys are in on it. This was just a jumbo "Fuck You" to Choshyu.

Oops. Well, at least I was half right. Maeda, Takada, whatever, both are shoot "badasses" who have never won a non-worked match as far as I know.
