Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted August 13, 2002 Ok. I am extremely ticked of that they are making a Prequel to Dumb and Dumber, my favorite movie of all time, and it won't be done by the Farelly Bros or any of the original cast. http://scifi.com/scifiwire/art-main.html?2...8/12/10.00.film But this is making me mad. A sequel to the Mask? I know there had been talk of one, but it died off a while ago, and now they plan to make one without the original cast again. Why? The only reason either of these two movies were hits the first time was because of the actors in them (Carrey and Daniels in Dumb and Dumber, Carrey and Cameron Diaz in The Mask) No one is going to want to see either of these movies as sequels 7 years later none the less, without the original cast or at least part of the cast returning. The Fark quote "Hollywood is out of ideas.." has never been more true..
Guest Still Fly Report post Posted August 13, 2002 They're also making a sequel for "xXx" and "Spy Kids 2" ALREADY!
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted August 13, 2002 yeah, but that doesn't make me too mad, because they will have the same cast and its not 7 between movies.
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted August 13, 2002 Yeah and movies like XXX and Spy Kids were created specifically to be franchises. Dumb and Dumber, that shouldn't have a sequel ever. That's well...dumb. The Mask? It's sort of a superhero thing so a sequel works for it. But 7 years IS a long time to wait for it. It would only be worth the wait if it was a REAL sequel. With the original cast back. I'm willing to bet any amount of money you want, that both of these movies will end up going direct to video.
Guest wwF1587 Report post Posted August 13, 2002 thats hollywood, cant come up with an original idea, redo some old ones
Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted August 13, 2002 If the sequel to The Mask is just a clone of the movie, it'll suck. If it's as dark and brooding, yet slapsticky hilarious, as the comic book was/is...it'll kick ass. I heard that Disney's ready to make Bambi 2. I think it's about how Bambi's mother faked her own death to force her son to stop being a pussy, but ends up getting rabies. Now, Bambi and his forest friends must find a way to prevent Bambi's mother and her army of evil mutant lumberjacks from conquering the world, all the while singing! Such songs as "That Rabid Mama," "The King Of The Woods," and "Twitter-Painted Again" will be used.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 13, 2002 I want to see Dirty Work 2!
Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted August 13, 2002 You're just now getting pissed? I was getting po'ed back when they made Cinderella 2 and Hunchback of Notre Dame 2.
Guest Karnage Report post Posted August 13, 2002 7 years maybe a lot, but Slap Shot got a sequel 25 years later. The Slap Shot franchise was tarnished with the direct to video Stephen Baldwin flick.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted August 13, 2002 Years-later sequels with different casts aren't always bad: look at Buffy the Vampire Slayer, for example. But in general, yeah. Hollywood hasn't had any original ideas since, oh, the 20's.
Guest EricMM Report post Posted August 13, 2002 You're just now getting pissed? I was getting po'ed back when they made Cinderella 2 and Hunchback of Notre Dame 2. I'm in complete agreement. It's getting to the point where I'd like to protest the naming of these flicks if they are going to COMPLETELY disregard the source material. I mean if you say "based on" how based on is it? How loose are you going to get? I understand perhaps taking out a few of the more violent images from Fairy Tales (despite disagreeing with the reasoning) but some of these happy endings are getting to be too much. The digressions from the original story so the story would be happier are wrong. But. Writing sequels which have NOTHING to do with the previous story except the characters names, have nothing to do with the source material except the name, it's just wrong. Here's a startling concept disney: STOP REMAKING OLD STORIES!!!! I guess Lilo and Stitch is fine. But if they make more of these old fairy tales into movies, I have to question whether or not they'll ever make something original again. *Is still waiting for Romeo and Juliette 2, Othello 2, and Hamlet 2*
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted August 13, 2002 I'm surprised nobody has mentioned American Psycho 2 yet. The worst sequel in the history of sequels.
Guest Nevermortal Report post Posted August 14, 2002 Robert DeNiro is starring in "Analyze That" (sequel to Analyze This) and "Meet the Fockers" (sequel to Meet the Parents). These will most likely suck, but I read the casts and they have most of the original members, so it has that going for them.
Guest chirs3 Report post Posted August 14, 2002 How about that sure-fire new classic "Peter Pan II: Return to Never Never Land". In theatres for about... three days, if I remember correctly. And I didn't read a single good review.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted August 14, 2002 Ditto on that one, chirs. When even Harry fucking Knowles gives you a negative review, it's time to pack it in. Personally, I think Hamlet 2 would be hilarious. Turns out that Cladius was actually a vampire and survived the ending; also, Gertrude had been recently converted to the undead, so she returns also. In a desperate attempt to save the kingdom, Horatio uses cutting-edge genetic technology to revive Hamlet. With Ophelia's twin sister (who had been away at school during the first Hamlet, and has now just returned) as his sidekick, the new, cybernetically enhanced Super Hamlet will take his poison-tipped rapier and cut a path of REVENGE that Denmark will never forget!!! . . . (rereads the above) My god... if I actually ever go to Hollywood, please, one of you come and kill me.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted August 14, 2002 Im all for sequels to movies that do good at the box office and then they put out the sequel with the same cast. In some situations I've found the sequel to be better than the original. But this business of hollywood seeing what 5 and 10 year old movie franchises they can dig up for sequels is rediculous. I would almost have a problem with Terminator 3 just because they waited so damn long to make it, but they did wait just as long between 1 and 2. My problem with T3 now is that I think Arnold is washed up and had it been a few years ago, he may have still been good for the role. Of course T3 will easily be a blockbuster and all..so I doubt it matters. I also don't have a problem with Disney doing sequels to its animated movies. I realize that the classics like Bambi and Peter Pan are of little interest to kids these days who grew up on all the new snazzier cartoons, and CGI movies(Monsters Inc. and Toy Story). Most of them are direct to video anyway...
Guest Vern Gagne Report post Posted August 14, 2002 How about Hollywood not having any ORIGINAL ideas. Either it's sequels or prequels, or they remake an old movie and do a really poor job. All this crap is why I never see movies, and why I'm such a fan of the classics.
