Split to feature Cruiserweight push?

Recommended Posts

Guest oldschoolwrestling

411wrestling is stating that sources say when the WWF splits, Raw will be run by McMahon and the NWO and be more promo/skit/sports entertainment-based, while Smackdown will be run by Flair, and will push more wrestling and pushing the cruiserweights.  That would be cool....if it really happens

The WWF would be smart if they do that. They'll even be smarter if they have different writers for both shows.

For the first time in ages i'm really quite optimistic about the wwf pushing a cruiserwieght division. I could never see it in the current set up but it could work perfectly if the split occurs in that way. Many older viewers who never switched over to the wwf when wcw went under might find the more wrestling orientated programme quite appealing. With any luck they will proceed with the split directly along these lines. There are loads of wrestlers who could potentially flourish on the new Smackdown show. With plenty of good talent around the wwf could well be on to a winner if things are booked well enough. The quality of weekly shows could seriously go through the roof if they can pull the split off in that way. I was a real cynic about the split before, but while i'm still not convinced iv'e got my fingers crossed more now in a cautiously optimistic way

Oh no, don't tell me that all of Smackdown's and Raw's promos will happen in two short hours, and all the wrestling of both shows will be on Smackdown, please. I don't get Smackdown with my pay tv subscription, and I only watch wrestling for well, wrestling.

Raw will still have wrestling...just not as much as Smackdown. Maybe instead of one 20 minute promo, Raw will have two 20 minute promos.

I think RAW should feature the matches and IMPORTANT  angle developments. More people watch RAW than smackdown! and RAW should concentrate on the matches and cruiserweights. Smackdown! attracts less viewers therefore should be used for the entertainment segments.

To quote Dennis Miller: "Of course thats just my opinion, I could be wrong"

I knew there was still going to be a few matches on Raw, but if they had any less, it would be none.

But I sometimes wonder what the fans are more interested in, they are always more lively through the promos, but promos are a direct interaction with the fans.

Cruiserweights on smackdown= good thing.

The split can be successful if they make 2 different brands. If they have the same content and show, then it's basically wwf1 and wwf2. You are then asking fans to now follow and buy 2 PPV's that are the same thing, just different people. A split can only be successful if you draw in new fans to watch something DIFFERENT! Cruiserweights on 1 of the shows is a good start.

Hopefully the WWF does give the cruiserweight division a serious push.

If done right they could be a big asset to the WWF, providing excellent matches.

The running idea is wrestling vs. sports entertainment to see which worls. Better off, because Vince can book his crap and let the wrestling writers do their thing, rather than booking it to hell.

Wasn't that the way the WCW invasion was supposed to go in? I remember reading somewhere that the WWF was going to do Wrestling (WCW) vs. Sports Entertainment (WWF) for the invasion, but somebody decided to go with Sports Entertainment vs. Sports Entertainment.

I think the Crusierweight division is a good thing, if the WWF has the right guy booking the division.

"The cruiserweight division will be getting a push."  If I had a dime for every time I've heard that, I'd be a very rich man.  I certainly hope they mean it this time.

Won't that also set up booker vs booker? Assuming of course that there are seperate bookers for each show. Also, if Smackdown is more successful than RAW, would that build enough resentment to kill the idea?

Unless the plans have changed, the WWF will have the same writing team write both shows. Which sucks, if you ask me. I also wonder if the WWF would get upset if the wrestling side of the WWF gets better ratings than the Sports Entertainment side. Remember, Vince has that ego that could make him change something.

I don't think the audience size between the shows is THAT different (remember, a ratings point for network broadcasts has considerably more people than a ratings point for a cable broadcast).

...Who gets both shows and would like the split.
