Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted August 13, 2002 NJ is looking to use The Great MUTA to draw themselves a sellout, who can they use for the role to NOT piss the fans off? I'd guess it'd be someone from either a US Indy who can work the Muta spots like he did in 1989, or a former young lion making his return (Makabe?)
Guest The Prodigy Report post Posted August 13, 2002 They are gonna piss someone off if they do this no matter who they use. Namely me.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted August 13, 2002 Well, they wouldn't piss me off if they used Ohtani, and had him crush Chyna.
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted August 13, 2002 I'm betting on Savio Vega.. oh... wait..
Guest Downhome Report post Posted August 13, 2002 I know about Puroresu, but not very deep. How can they use that gimmick when the "real" guy is in AJPW? I wasn't aware that NJPW owned the gimmick, etc... Anyhow, I don't see how they can do it without setting off a mass pissed off chain of events in the fan population. This will praticily be a spap in the face, will it not?
Guest PlatypusFool Report post Posted August 13, 2002 I dunno, it wasn't Keiji Mutoh that was so over back in the day, it was the MUTA gimmick. Putting someone who can play the gimmick really well, and mimic Keiji's mannerisms perfectly, into the facepaint and costume, could be a lot of fun for the fans to watch. As long as they keep the participant in short matches then it'll be a crowd pleaser.
Guest Grenouille Report post Posted August 13, 2002 Who knows? Maybe they have a gimmick that can be passed on like the Tiger Mask gimmick.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted August 13, 2002 Jinsei Shinzaki could pull off the gimmick well enough, he's a world-class staller to rival Mutoh himself. But I really don't think this is another Tiger Mast deal, where you can just pass it on; Muta IS Mutoh, period.
Guest razazteca Report post Posted August 13, 2002 Shiibata or Takamura? these guys looked good in CMLL maybe they could add highspots to the gimmick.
Guest RickyChosyu Report post Posted August 14, 2002 I'm slightly confused on this. Didn't Mutoh re-use this gimick in the US Indy's recently as well as that one AJPW show where he went over three times in one night? More MUTA is the last thing I need. Just when he warms up to me by trying to sell the Giants to someone else, Chono goes and pissed me right the fuck off by bring back this shit. Fuck you, New Japan. Guest BionicRedneck Report post Posted August 14, 2002 Yes, Keiji Mutoh wrestled as MUTA on a few shows this year. This may help, from StrongStyleSpirit: Even more bizarre is the inclusion of "The Great MUTA" on 9/16. New Japan owns rights to the Great Muta persona, yet they're spelling it MUTA (capitalized), which is Keiji Muto's modified persona. heres a clue on who it might be: - The Great MUTA is expected to be a junior. It won't be Joannie Laurer, but she may manage the character. There are heavy rumours that it could be Shinya Makabe, but that wouldn't make sense in that he went away to become a heavyweight, although it's not confirmed that MUTA will be a junior. Guest BigTim2002 Report post Posted August 16, 2002 I bet it's Makabe, nonetheless.
