Guest Black Tiger Report post Posted February 23, 2002 Before you get all excited over this I want to make a few things clear. This top ten list will NOT include gimmick matches such as TLC, Dumpster, or Ladder matches. I only list matches that can be won by a pinfall or submission. I don't think the best man in a match is decided by who shuts their opponents in a dumpster or who grabs the belt first. This isn't to say I don't enjoy gimmick matches like these. Maybe sometime down the road I'll do a list of top ten gimmick matches. 10. The Rockers VS Haku and Barbarian (Wrestlemania 7). I'll admit that I'm a mark for the Rockers. Duggan is on commentary and he makes Tony sound lik JR. Heenan is at ringside. Faces or Fear overpower to start but Rockers start to use their speed to their advantage. Jannetty hits a top rope dropkick and Michaels hits a cross body block for the pin. 09. Chicago Street Fight: Ahmed and LOD VS NOD (Wrestlemania 13) This is a huge brawl. The NOD break out some boards. LOD and Ahmed take them away. Ahmed goes nuts and starts killing everyone. PG-13 interfere and get killed as well Hawk hits two clotheslines at the same time on Crush and Savio to get the pin. 08. TAKA VS Aguila (Wrestlemania 14) Aguila looks like a dead ringer for Juvi with his mask on. This is a great high flying M Pro type match with TONS of suicide dives by both guys. Aguila does a nice rana roll up for two. TAKA puts it away with the Michinoku Driver 2. 07. Ken Shamrock VS Goldust VS Val Venis VS Road Dogg(Wrestlemania 15) No, I haven't lost it yet. This is the ONLY good match to come out of the WM 15 undercard. Road Dogg and Shamrock start and Lawler makes some funny jokes about how he knows a lot of the porn community by reading a lot. Shamrock and Venis both get counted out. Goldust sends Road Dogg off the ropes but he reverses it and Ryan Shamrock trips Goldust by mistake and Road Dogg gets the pin for a HUGE Pop! 06. Brittish Bulldogs VS Dream Team (Wrestlemania 2). I have a soft spot for this match since Wrestlemania 2 was the first Wrestlemania I ever saw, (and years later turned out to be the first one I ever bought) Bulldogs have Capt. Lou and Ozzy in their corner. The Dream Team works over Davey's arm with hammerlocks and chickenwings. A sweet spot has Davey try to counter a hammerlock by flipping out and Beefcake throws him back down on the arm. Valentine gets a two count and lifts Davey up. Davey runs him headfirst into Dynamite on the top and Dynamite falls off. Davey pins him for the win. 05. Ricky Steamboat VS Randy Savage (Wrestlemania 3) No, Hogan VS Andre won't be on this list. It may be classic but I just don't care for it. Before anyone asks I have EVERY wrestlemania in WWF master format and all are either Coliseum video or WWF home video releases, No box set copies here. Steamboat uses a few armdrags to take Savage down. He throws him out and Liz helps him in causing Gorilla to have a fit about seconds touching the wrestlers. Savage takes control and sends out Ricky and Steele helps him back in. Gorilla goes on a tangent about how Savage is a good champion since he won the belt 14-15 months ago. (Savage won it on 2/8/86-WM 3 was on 3/24/87, whats wrong with Gorilla's math?) Savage grabs the bell but Steele pushes him off the top. Steamboat counters a slam into a pin for the 3 count. (WrestleWar 89 used that exact spot to end Flair VS Steamboat with Steamboat playing Savage and Flair playing Steamboat) 04. Bret Hart VS Owen Hart (Wrestlemania 10) Owen works Bret's knee like crazy. Bret can barley stand. Fans just HATE Owen, it's unbelieveable. Bret starts to out wrestle him before the knee gives again and Owen uses a cool figure four variation with him pushing the knee from the side. Bret tries a victory roll and Owen counters for the win. 03. The Rock VS Steve Austin (Wrestlemania 15) This is NO DQ and they go nuts on each other. Austin hurts his knee early in the match when Rock suplexes him. Rock hits a Rock bottom for two and Rock hits the ref. Austin fights back with the stunner for two so he gives one to that ref. Mick Foley comes down to ref. Rock goes for Rock bottom and Austin counters with stunner for 2. Rock gets Rock Bottom and misses the people's elbow. Stunner, goodnight. 02. I Quit Match Steve Austin VS Bret Hart (Wrestlemania 13) Brawl to start. They fight to the floor and go through the crowd. Bret hits Austin with a chair and slams him into the post and busts him open. Bret tries to Pillmanize Austin but he fakes him out and hits him with the chair. Bret gets the sharpshooter and Austin powers out, Bret gets it again and Austin passes out for the win. For Bret's heel turn the crowd was pretty loud in cheering Bret. 01. Iron Man Match: Bret Hart VS Shawn Michaels. I'm not going into a lot of detail since it's an hour long. The match is mostly HBK doing submissions and Bret trying to wrestle. HBK goes for sweet chin music and knocks the time keeper out. Bret works the knee over and gets the sharpshooter as time runs out. Gorilla says sudden death and HBK hits a partial superkick for 2 and then hits Sweet Chin Music for 3. I know this was short but watch the match and you'll see it's good. Feedback is always good and I know someone will argue with at least one of my picks so go ahead and aruge, I welcome the challenge.
Guest nWoScorpion Report post Posted February 23, 2002 I thought you said no gimmicks. You chose a Street Fight, Iron Man Match ,and an I Quit match. Eh, they were all good so who really cares?
Guest Big McLargeHuge Report post Posted February 23, 2002 But those gimmicks require you to actually pin your opponent or make him submit. my number? Austin/Hart followed closely by hart/hart.
Guest nWoScorpion Report post Posted February 23, 2002 My bad, i only read gimmick matches then skipped to #10. Hehe
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted February 23, 2002 Good read. My top WM match would be Austin/Bret.

Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted February 23, 2002 Solid list but I'd include the gimmick matches too if they applied. So here's my two cents. 10.Flair-Savage WM8(not one of my top ten Flair matches, but an excellent match nonetheless) 9. British Bulldogs vs. Beefcake&Valentine WM2 (hey, I kiss Benoit's ass therefore I kiss Dynamite Kid's ass too. PLus Beefcake does this real hurty hammerlock slam. Plus, you got Ozzy!!! Great match). 8. Piper-Bret WM8 (bret carries Piper in another classic. Just a personal favorite. Plus blood!!!!) 7. Benoit -Angle WM17(they took it to the mat and brought the pain. Benoit should have gone over though) 6. Brainbusters vs. Strike Force WM5 (Classic heel turn by Martel wrapped around a solid match) 5. Razor-Shawn ladder match WM10(even today, after we've seen all the crazy shit, this match can still make me cringe. I like the Summerslam match better though.) 4. Austin-Rock (people bitched about the ending but I like the overkill with the chairs. MuthaFucka stay down already!) 3. Austin-Bret WM13 (This match is friggin great but I like the Survivor Series 96 match just a little bit better. Still one of my favorite Austin matches.) 2. Steamboat-Savage WM3 (This match opened my eyes to what wrestling should be. I knew this match was special when I saw it in 87, ten years later when I got connected to the net, I realized other people felt the same way. For you youngsters who feel it is overrated, I pity you. This match made me open my eyes and realize what wrestling should be) 1. Owen-Bret WM10 (in my opinion, the best Mania match ever and one of my top 5 favorites ever. Owen was the perfect heel and practically every move was executed to perfection. I was shocked that Owen won in '94 but even the ending was perfect)

Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted February 25, 2002 I forgot about Flair vs. Savage. That would be number ten. For some reason I can no longer edit my posts.
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 25, 2002 I'm glad I'm not the only one who recognized that the WrestleMania 16 ladder match was better than TLC2.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted February 25, 2002 I agree with that assessment also but I don't put either of them in my top ten since I like other matches just a little better. As for TLC2, that match was the signal that th gimmick had outlived its usefulness. TheRhino, Lita and Spike interference was just overkill on an already convoluted premise. Plus, the walking of the ladders did not go off successfully. I actually thought the Wm 2000 match was better than TLC 1, but I'm in the minority in that opinion. Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted February 25, 2002 I agree with that completely. I liked TLC 1 too...but not as much as the lader match at Mania 2000
Guest Kahran Ramsus Report post Posted February 25, 2002 I rank the ladder matches from worst to best. 5. No Mercy 1999 4. Wrestlemania XVII 3. Summerslam 2000 2. Smackdown 1. Wrestlemania XVI
Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 25, 2002 Top 15 Matches in Wrestle Mania History...(Including Gimmick Matches) 15. Hulk Hogan Vs Andre the Giant (WM3)-Yes, not the greatest match by a long count but for historical reasons...It deserves a spot on this list. 14 Diesel Vs HBK (WM11)-Very under rated and I felt it really was a great match with shawn carrying Diesel to one of his best matches ever. 13. Shawn Micheals Vs Steve Austin(wm14)-Even though HBK was finished for good with his back injury, Shawn put forth one last amazing match with Steve Austin, while the match certaintly did not live up to expectations that were expected before the injury, It still carried itself to greatness and it helps with "Iron" Mike Tyson being on the outside adding a little bit of history. 12. Bret Hart Vs Roddy Piper (WM8)-A true under rated match that has almost been forgotten but not by me. Amazing story, that really had no angle backing it (Piper replaced Hart at R.R and Bret wanted his chance for the gold) but they spurned an amazing story out of this and the blood was very effective in telling the story...The final minutes of the match shows the greatness of this match. 11. Brain Busters Vs Strike Force (WM5)-Not only a great match but easily one of the best heel turns ever. 10. Randy Savage Vs Ultimate Warrior-Warrior's greatest match ever, bottom line. Savage and Warrior gave their all and they gave us an amazing match with a even better finish then anyone could have imagined. 9. Edge/Christian Vs Dudley Boyz Vs Hardy Boyz(WM2000)-Much better flow then TLC2 and better and believeable action. The finish was less contrived and less blown spots. 8. Bret Hart Vs Shawn Micheals (WM12)-Time has not been friendly to this match, the first 30 minutes really drag but the final 25 minutes really heats up but the lack of pinfalls really hurt this Iron Man match. 7. Randy Savage Vs Hulk Hogan (WM5)-Very Good match, infact, Hogan's best ever. Non-stop action and great storytelling make this the classic it is. 6. Randy Savage Vs Ric Flair (WM8)-Amazing drama and one the best stories ever told in a match. The blood mixed with the golden blonde hair of Flair gave the match a historic feel along with such an amazing crowd. 5. Razor Ramon Vs Shawn Micheals (WMX)-Once considered the greatest Mania match ever by many including myself has fallen because of recent matches showing new heights of the gimmick. Still, told the greatest story of all ladder matches. The best finish to a ladder match, bar none. 4. Steve Austin Vs The Rock (WM17)-An amazing match that time will judge...for the present moment, this ranks very high as the heel/Face structure was broken down and rebuilt in this epic and intense classic. 3. Randy Savage Vs Ricky Steam Boat(WM3)-The match that showed North America what wrestling was supposed to be like. 2. Bret Hart Vs Steve Austin(WM13)-The match that changed every thing. The turning point in WWF history. The greatest brawl ever mixed with some of the greatest images ever. 1. Bret Hart Vs Owen Hart (WMX)- What can be said about this that has not been said yet? Nothing. Owen's greatest performence and Bret for once, was carried. Just simply amazing.
Guest goodhelmet Report post Posted February 26, 2002 It's good to see you can appreciate good wrestling Choken One, but I have to disagree with your assessment of HBK-Diesel. The photographers were in the way. the wrong man went over. Diesel stalled way too much (compare to Good Friends, Better Enemies) and Shawn was not at his best. A watchable match but not a great match!
