At my local Meijers and Farmer Jack they have this new thing where they fire 2/3 of their checkout people and have this godawful scan it/bag it yourself deal.

 

My God these are awful...soon you're going to have to stock the shelves yourself...where's the customer service in this?

 

I used one of these Nazi like machines yesterday...scanned the item...put it in the bag...then had to wait a minute for it to tell me to take it out and scan it again...

 

Then the dickwipe monitoring all of this gets pissy cause you have to ask a question or two.

 

I think it's worse then standing in a line 10 deep with only 3 of the 20 lanes open.

 

Then when you're done you get the computer "Thank You"...maybe it's just me, but coming from a machine it just doesn't sound sincere.

Actually, I like the scan-it-yourself machines. While trying to buy a bottle of Coke at midnight, I'd much rather scan it myself than wait in line five deep at the "10 Item or Less Express Lane" while some 80-year old clerk with one foot in the grave tries to ring up a customers 20-item order.

 

That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I also don't mind the scan it yourself machines. Once you do it a few times it's easy to do and quicker then waiting for the cashiers who are usually slow idiots.

 

I don't really understand what customer service you are claiming to miss by not having your purchases rang up by some kid that hates you and thier job.

I love the scan it yourself machine - very convenient. I was at Randall's yesterday and they had a guy who seemed like he had NO FUCKING CLUE as to how to use the scanner. I guarantee I was screaming for a do-it-yourself checkout then...

 

Mind you, if a checkout girl is hot, I'll wait for 30 minutes to get my stuff cashed out. Can't say I've encountered that in Houston though. I must be in the wrong area...

We don't have these "Do it yourself" scanners around here... however, we do have several hot cashier babes

I'm with you, Youth... that's a bit ridiculous. But I see the convenience factor - if you're just buying a magazine or a two-liter or something. But still... I prefer actual cashiers.

 

And there's no way I would wait half an hour just for a hot cashier! I prefer them old and scrubby, whoo!!!

What part of Houston are you in? Because I live in the Heights and there is an extremely hot cashier at the Kroger on Shepherd.
