Steve Austin arrested

Davey Boy Smith has never been convicted of beating his wife. In fact charges were dropped against him. Diana Hart has made many allegations but she also wrote a book that was so honest- they had to pull it from the shelves.

I'm not gonna join in the Fuck Austin parade (I did in June and now regret it) until he is convicted.

The Brock comment was my way of saying- Austin should've stayed in the WWE cause his life has gone to hell.

a) that doesn't prove that he didn't hit her

B) it was an example and I think you missed the point

c) Steve also has never been convicted of hitting his wife, not yet, at least

While I can understand the message behind it, who's to say this wouldn't have happened had he stayed? Since when does leaving the WWE act as a catalyst to hitting your wife? Could someone give me an explanation as to how the fuck one has to do with the other? Just wondering.

Bulldog is my all time favourite wrestler so I get very defensive when someone disses him.

He doesn't mean he did hit her and he may have. But Bulldog was never convicted

A lot of people accused me for standing behind Bulldog while bashing Austin and they were right which is why until Austin is convicted I'm not gonna say anything

I think it's quite possible, as I believe I mentioned before.

It's quite possible that Austin and Debra got into a verbal argument, concerning Austin walking out on the WWE.

Now, since it was really a matter of pride, I think (Austin didn't want to look bad and such) it was probably hard for Debra to understand. A man's pride makes him do funny things - but this "funny thing" just cost Austin millions of dollars. Literally.

So they get into a shouting match.

Austin, however, is understandably under a lot of stress. He just WALKED OUT on the biggest wrestling company that exists today. He just lost millions. For a decision that even he may have been second-guessing.

So, he flips out. He can't stand the arguing. He can't deal with it. So he uses a very, very base reaction to it: Physical violence.

I don't think it's an impossible theory. And of course, walking out on the WWF alone won't make you beat your wife. But in Austin's case, I think it WAS a big catalyst.

Assuming, of course, that this was a one-time beating.

Well, Debras a Golddigger, right?

Austin leaves the Wwf and therefore her meal ticket flies out the window. She no longer gets to ride around in the limos, stay at the fancy hotels, travel around the world, get a pay check and be on TV. Not to mention her Husbands income will be much much lower.

I think that would piss her off. So she starts to tell Steve that he made a stupid decision and that he should go back to Vince and beg for his job back. Steve is a proud man; he wouldn't beg for his job back. Maybe he starts to realize that Debra married him for his status rather than his stunning personality and he gets pissed as well.

Had Austin not left they wouldn't be in that position.

However, had Austin not left he would be in a crappy storyline or in a wheelchair after wrestling Brock.

While I do think there is hypocricy in defending one man's actions while attacking another for something similiar, don't you see the over-lying issue? Bulldog fucked up his life beyond re-pair numerous times, but that doesn't mean he was always a bad person, or that his career didn't mean anything. He and Tom Billington still made themselves legends as a tag team, Bulldog was still a hero to countless kids watching WWF growing up, and his career still meant something. Austin is no different. He was fucking AWESOME and that's how he deserves to be remembered, no matter what happens.

1) Debra said it had happened before.

2) You're speculating, and nothing more. They could have been arguing about anything. Austin had gone through a divorce, had lost custody of his children, and couldn't see them anymore. You listed several things that were probably going on in his head. It could have been anything.

3) Assuming that WAS the catalyst, who's to say something else might not have caused this later on, even if he still was with the WWE? Obviously he was unhappy there, and other problems were bound to come up. There is never one thing that causes these situations.

Being one of the biggest Austin marks on this board (and on the planet, for good measure), it pains me to see how low Steve's life has reached up to this point. Sure, I'm not condoning wife-beating and I think that's the WORST way to release your frustrations, but being the man that he is, I sympathize with him. The reason is because of bloodsucking fans like the ones who hail Vince as an angel and Austin as Satan. I remember when Austin quit the WWE in June. 65% of the posters here started belittling Austin's name, as if he had done NOTHING at all in his career to satisfy the fans. "Oh, he owes the fans everything, Vince is blameless....". Bullshit. Austin went out there week in and week out to entertain the fans. He has a stiff neck (although it's healed) and two very bad knees, and yet he still risks career ending injury to entertain the masses. Suddenly, Vince turns a deaf ear to what his top worker has to say. He brings in three useless workers and places them above Austin, despite these three guys not deserving such a high placement. Then, Vince asks Austin to job cleanly to a very green and very heatless Brock Lesnar. Austin refuses because he realizes that his character is the one people pay to see, and Brock Lesnar being pushed would be disastrous for the company. You could almost see a Montreal coming for Austin, so he realizes the dark cloud the locker room had, and he quit. Debra, not wanting to leave the life of luxury, throws a huge hissy-fit towards her husband. Steve was obviously tired and under enormous amounts of stress, and now Debra bitches about leaving the life of luxury. Steve then releases his frustrations, violently, on his wife. A terrible thing to do, no matter who you are. It's a shame that things like this happen to the guys that the fans admire, cheer, and ultimately respect. Some prime examples are Davey Smith and, of course, Bret Hart. Now Steve Austin is heading towards a gloomy path in his life. I wish that there's someone in Steve's life to shed light at the end of that dark tunnell ahead. Being a HUGE Austin mark, it's almost as if the reason I ever really watched wrestling has left me. Thankfully, I have every single Steve Austin tape there is to remind me of the legend that is Stone Cold. No matter what he has done these past two months or so, no one can deny that Steve Austin was one of the most compelling and influential wrestlers ever. That is, my friends, the bottom line, and we should never forget Austin's triumphs.

And how much of this is based on actual fact? Jobbing to Lesnar, Debra throwing a hissy fit, it's all your theories, no fact. You can't invent a history to justify your opinion.

Meh, Austin was almost invisible to me after the Raw the night after Survivor Series 2001. I was wondering how this little story was progressing, if at all, while I was away from the Internet Wrestling Community. But like I said, the Austin I knew was just boring after the face turn.

As for the guy, well, this happens, all the time, it just happened to have happened to a wrestler this time that was beloved by millions.

Oh yeah, all of us are quite aware that no one here condones large men pounding on smaller women, so stop saying it if you're defending the guy. We know that you are defending him in relation to what had been going on in his life leading up to the incident in question.

Oh, and anyone who couldn't see Austin was heading to the shitter anyway was the blindest person I've ever seen.

This has been another stream-of-consciousness post.

Austin has gone threw a lot, A messy divorce with his first wife, losing custody of his children (apparantly badly affected him) a broken neck, a long rehab process, the constant travel and physical pain. All this added up can start to take its toll on a person, i think Austin hitting Debra was wrong but she may have said something that made him snape, again Austin hitting her was wrong.

I think Steve has a break down and it is not something to be made fun of, this isnt a simple matter of a guy hitting his wife.

No matter what happens to Austin no one can take away the fact is and will always be a legend.

Funny how you say that...isn't it ironic that she FINALLY calls the police after Austin leaves his job? She isn't on the gravy train any more. Oh, and to reply to that statement...I say:

Yup. I would HOPE just because she said that doesn't mean you would believe her.

I know for a fact that (if I was a woman) and my husband beat me up I'd probably be calling the police then and there and not waiting.

It's kinda like what some people are saying about Hogan here. If you can't handle it, retire. I realize the fact he had a bad neck and knees, but using that as an excuse only made him a higher-ranked X-pac.

I'm not sad to see him off my TV.

I'm sure it's been mentioned before, but it bears repeating...

Austin turned himself in, as opposed to reports saying that he was arrested; i.e., the cops sought him out and detained him.

Kinda changes the context a little.

Regardless, if the charges turn out to be true, I feel sad for everyone involved.

It still won't change how I feel about Steve Austin the wrestler.

People wanted this guy back???

You mean you WANTED the crowd chanting "What?" during every promo, even the ones that didn't involve Austin??

You wanted every RAW ending with Austing pissed off?

You wanted every RAW revolving around Austin being pissed and getting revenge?

YOu wanted endless, stupid segments of Austin drunk and singing Margaritaville?

I mean, seriously, you smarks complain about stale characters, but yet...err...never mind. Hypocrisy is such a .....::shaking my head::

Well, as you said in this thread http://www.thesmartmarks.com/forums/index....9dd1a10e5e37871 you don't watch wrestling for matches, Strike Forcer...so you shouldn't be the one to talk. I would want Austin (as hell of a lot people) back for wrestling matches. Sure, he sucked in 2002...but then again, he wasn't put with many good oppenents in 2002 to have ****+ matches. Sure, his character AT THE TIME was bad, but that doesn't mean they can't change it. I'm sick of "WHAT?" as everyone else, but that doesn't mean they couldn't change it. I'm sure people would easily forget about "WHAT?" in 9-12 months if he ended up coming back.

I told you why I'm not really into the matches themselves in that thread, but I'll tell you why here, too. When you've watched wrestling for 20 years like me, the matches all look the same.

The story posted from Reuters (same as the one on Yahoo) because we all know how lazy we are about clicking links:

SAN ANTONIO (Reuters) - "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, one of the best known characters in American professional wrestling, surrendered to law enforcement officials in Texas on Tuesday on a charge of beating his wife.

He posted $5,000 bond and was released pending future legal action, said a spokesman for the Bexar County Sheriff's Department.

Austin, 36, a Texas native whose real name is Steve Williams, turned himself in after an arrest warrant was issued charging him with assault causing bodily injury on a spouse.

Police were called to Austin's upscale San Antonio home in June by wife Debra Williams who told police the World Wrestling Entertainment star beat her on the head, back and legs, then fled.

Williams, 42, is a former beauty queen also affiliated with WWE.

According to Debra, she was afraid of reporting it because of her husbands celebrity status. Take that for what you will, but anything you say is still speculation. I don't have to believe her, I was merely pointing out that, since she's charging him with abuse that took place over a long time, its silly to say "leaving the WWE made Austin go NUTSO!!!" as if the two things have ANYTHING to do with each other. Physicallly abusing your wife and leaving the WWE are two very different things, and it would do a lot of people around here some good to remember that. If you want to bash him, use arguements that make sense.

Diablo, he couldn't take it, so he did leave, and I doubt he's coming back, so he's basically retired. Isn't that all anyone's asked of Hogan?

And yes, I do miss Austin, in a waxing nostalgic kind of way. I do think Austin, if motivated, could still be a major asset to the WWE, but then again, with the wrestling how is now and Austin how he is in general, I doube he's going to be motivated anymore, so I guess the tapes are going to have to do from now on. Woe is me.

Well, I've been reading the posts and Debra did not go to the police and press charges. In the state of Texas when there is a police report of a battered wife the decision whether to prosecute the husband is no longer left up to the wife but to the DA. So Debra did not in fact pursue the matter, only the state of Texas did. (I live in Texas thats how I know)

Also, check out WWE.com as I was checking the Titantrons on wrestlers and guess whos back on who was not there yesterday......

Stone Cold Steve Austin, but with his heel promo. May be a screw up, or maybe not.......

FARK.com is a group of fucking idiots with no wit and near-low levels of Photoshoppery skills anyway.

As for Ricky's comment, well, the guy turned himself in. I think that kind of speaks for itself. No matter what the reasons are, the action is not excusable.

So he fucked himself out of millions in order to protect his character. Whoop-de-doo. I wish I had the oppertunity. I'd gladly go out there and be John Cena's Jobbing Boy or whatever if they gave me that much. You wouldn't have to give me the biggest push since Hulk Hogan or any of that bullshit Austin got.

If things go better for Austin & Debra, maybe they'll take a trip or something and patch things up. If tihngs go worse, it's another messy divorce process for Steve, and after that he can sit back and count his cash stockpile.

You know, Stone Cold could STILL come back.

I mean Vince would have NO CHOICE but to make him a heel (which we all love), although the "Shutup or I'll beat your wives too" angle might be upsetting...

But with 9/11 anti american comments, I seriously doubt wife beating will be a problem for Vince...
