Sounds better/worse live, than in person?

What vocalists do you feel sound better live, and also, what vocalists do you feel sound WORSE live? It's always been my belief, that the true measure of an artist is the quality of their voice which they can perform at any given time, live, without anything aiding them. Sure, they can do that live also, but you get my point.

So name some of them, in your opinion, under both groups. I'm really anxious to see what you think on this one. :D :o :D

hm...that title doesn't really make any sense.

the only shows that i really remember vividly are ween & pearl jam, and neither of them sound any better or worse.

Death metal is pretty fucking awful live...especially Morbid Angel.

Slayer's Tom Araya's voice is almost gone, but look at his career: 20 years of somewhat raspy-voiced screaming. His throat's a gonner.

Haven't been to very many concerts so i can't personally say.

I've heard that The Mighty Mighty Bosstones were much better live. I've also heard that The Dave Matthew's Band are better live.

However i'm indifferent towards Bosstones and I totally hate Dave Matthews so I never had the urge to find out if it is true.

Bon Jovi's "It's My Life" was awful when I was watching the Olympics, but it's decent recorded, does that count?

Only singers? Um...can't think of anyone off the top of my head.

As far as bands go, Fishbone is FAR better live than they are on disc.

despire the rumor... Roger Daltrey can still sing better than most people in the business. He sounded excellent when I saw the WHO this summer.

Not so much that her singing is bad, but Liz Phair's between song banter makes her sound like a fucking idiot.

i've heard Robert Plant is a bad singer when it comes to live shows

not at the show I saw him at. Plant sounded amazing in person this summer, and sounds amazing on all the Zeppelin bootlegs I have as well. so, maybe it was a bad night

Man, the people running sound at your show must've been incompetent. I saw Morbid Angel once and they tore it up.

Tool is a godly thing live.

Megadeth was HORRENDOUS the 2 times I saw them. I don't know what the fuck was wrong. They're one of my favorite bands, but jesus did they suck live.

Anyone from this years Warped Tour. Its been overun with pop like Good Charlotte and New Found Glory that it affected NOFX and Bad Religion. Thursday was the only thing good.

Third Eye Blind sucks live. They must tweak that guy's voice to get it that high on the albums cause he can't go that high live.

Britney Spears if she's not lip synching takes way too many breaths when singing. "Ooops I *huhhhh* did it again *huhhhhh*" Oh well I hate Britney anyways, but I just don't think she can actually sing.

Dave Matthews is much better live if he isn't drunk or stoned at the time. A friend of mine went to one of his concerts where he was obviously stoned and he said it ruined the concert.

AC/DC is absolutely incredible live.

The worst band I've seen live was Jerry Cantrell. I love Cantrell, but he sucks live.

According to my friend, Sum 41 is horrible live.

Judging by every TV appearance I've seen them make, I'd say your friend is right.

I liked Soundgarden, but everytime I saw them play live, once in concert, and a few times on TV, Chris Cornell sounded terrible. Also, gotta agree that AC/DC kicks all ass live....

Scorpions and Dio. Black Sabbath was always primarily a great LIVE band. Maiden/Bruce Dickinson as well, although my main knowledge comes from live albums. However, my life will not be complete until I see them live. My sister feels the same about AC/DC. I'd want to check them out too and I pretty much HATE AC/DC.

Pretty much any pop act sucks live, it's been said--studio work, my friends.

Deep Purple doesn't come off so well live, at least in my opinion.

I saw them at the Warped Tour last year, and they were great. I will admit that their televised live performances haven't sounded as good as the records, though... I don't know why that is.

Anyway... Linkin Park isn't too great live... neither is Godsmack. Otherwise, every other band I've seen has held up to my standards.
