Guest Downhome Report post Posted August 14, 2002 This is interesting, very interesting... NEW YORK (Reuters) - A new addition to British rocker Ozzy Osbourne's family may give America even more to love about "The Osbournes," the hit reality TV show detailing the chaotic lives of Ozzy, his wife and two teen-age children. Sharon Osbourne, the heavy metal rocker's wife, plans to take in a boy who recently lost his mother to colon cancer, her publicist confirmed on Wednesday. Sharon, 49, herself underwent surgery for colon cancer last month and recently began chemotherapy treatment. The New York Post reported earlier that the Osbournes would take Robert Marcato, a close friend of the couple's daughters, under their wing and into their show after his mother died last week. Once Marcato settles into the family, he will become part of the show as "Baby Osbourne" even though he is 18, the newspaper reported. The Osbournes became instant pop culture celebrities this year thanks to cable music channel MTV's life-in-the-raw show about the daily exploits of the 53-year-old Ozzy, who once made headlines for biting off the head of a live bat. Also appearing were Sharon and rambunctious teens Jack and Kelly. Elder daughter Aimee did not participate in the show's first season. The top-rated show will be back on MTV in the fall for a second season. MTV is a unit of Viacom Inc. ...can someone say, publicity stunt? Sincerely, ...Downhome... Guest J*ingus Report post Posted August 15, 2002 ...can someone say, publicity stunt? I don't think so. The kid is a friend of the family, he's an orphan now, and it's due to the same disease that Sharon suffers from. That's not a stunt, that's just timing. Guest starvenger Report post Posted August 15, 2002 I think it's just a nice gesture. I mean, it seems rather convenient and all that, but it doesn't seen like a publicity stunt. Besides which, don't most shows wait until the ratings drop badly before introducing a baby?
Guest Downhome Report post Posted August 15, 2002 Am I the only one that has put together that the guy is not a kid, but rather, a grown 18 year old? It couldn't be any more obvious that they are bringing him in for the purpose to make their TV show that much more interesting, in my opinion.
Guest bob_barron Report post Posted August 15, 2002 He lost his mom and they're just trying to be nice to him and make the kid feel better.
Guest Si82 Report post Posted August 15, 2002 He lost his mom and they're just trying to be nice to him and make the kid feel better. I have to agree with Bob and the others on this. Why do you have to be so cynical Downhome?
Guest jimmy no nose Report post Posted August 15, 2002 He lost his mom and they're just trying to be nice to him and make the kid feel better. I agree, but why are they calling him "baby" Osbourne?
Guest starvenger Report post Posted August 15, 2002 Just a joke, I'd guess...
Guest Angle-plex Report post Posted August 15, 2002 Imagine what the ratings would be if Gary Coleman moved in with The Osbourns. That would be the most watched show ever.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted August 15, 2002 I'm not being cynical, I just find humor in the fact they they are adopting a "kid", who is 18 years old. Last I heard, when one is 18 your are an adult, and couldn't even be adopted in the first place. For THAT reason, I call it a publicity stunt.
Guest Big McLargeHuge Report post Posted August 15, 2002 Nowhere in your article did it say they're "adopting' this kid. It just sounds like they taking him in because his mom is dead and he was a good friend of Kelley's (not from the snippet posted). Being 18 does mean you're an adult, but how many of us were financially stable enough to live alone when 18 years old?
Guest meanmaisch Report post Posted August 16, 2002 I think he was in a few episodes of the first season. He was Kelly's friend Robert.
