On the Free-For-All, Vince McMahon announced that Brian Pillman was found dead in his hotel room. It's later found out that it was due to drug overdose.

Opening Handicap Match- Legion of Doom vs. Nation of Domination: Kama Mustafa, Rocky Maivia, & D-Lo Brown

This was originally scheduled to be a six-man tag match, but Ken Shamrock was injured on Raw by Faarooq, and by Vader in a match in Tokyo. LOD get on the mic and say that they'll go in 3-on-2. D-Lo and Hawk start off. Criss cross, and Hawk hiptosses D-Lo. Dropkick by Hawk. D-Lo takes control with a dropkick, and tags in Maivia. The crowd is quick to get the "Rocky Sucks!" chant going, as Animal tags in. Rocky refuses to wrestle it seems, because of the chant. He comes back in quickly and gets his shots in on Animal, before being given a shoulder breaker. Rocky bails, as the crowd is all over him. He comes back in, only to be worked on by both Hawk & Animal. He gets the tag to Kama, who sends Hawk to the corner. He charges but misses. Hawk hits an enziguri, and goes into a chinlock. Animal comes in and hits Kama with a powerslam. Rocky sneaks in and DDTs him. Kama hits a superkick and dumps Animal out. The Nation go to work on Animal outside. They throw him back in, and D-Lo gets the tag. D-Lo whips Animal into the corner, but gets clotheslined. He goes for the tag, but can't make it. D-Lo holds him off, hitting his pattened leg drop, twice, for two. Rocky comes back in and locks in a chinlock. Irish whip, and knee to Animal. Rocky stomps away, but Animal starts to make a comeback. Rocky lowblows and tags Kama. Superkick, again, and misses a corner charge. Say, have we seen this before? Animal tags Hawk, but the ref didn't see it. Rocky & Kama hold Animal down and D-Lo hits the Lo-Down while the ref restrains Hawk. Lo-Down gets two. Rocky comes in, but gets clotheslined. Hot tag to Hawk, who cleans house. Powerslam to Rocky, and neckbreaker for D-Lo. LOD clean house and get ready for the Doomsday Device. Faarooq runs out to distract LOD. Rocky comes from behind and hits Hawk with the Rock Bottom, to get the win, at 12:18. God, what a snooze-fest. Terrible opener. 1/2*

Vince McMahon explains that the Brian Pillman-Dude Love match will obviously not be taking place. As the stipulations were, I remember Goldust would be handcuffed ringside. Pillman still had Marlena for 30-Days. If Dude won, then Goldust would get his match with Pillman. Marlena was supposed to turn on Goldust here, but you know, the match isn't happening. BUT, the WWF scrambed all day to find a new match, Vince says, so...

Max Mini & Nova vs. Tarantula & Mosaic

.. We get this! As you will see from other Rants, I don't rate or really recap these matches. I'll tell you this, Max Mini's team won, of course.

Austin 3:16 shirt... order now!

Sunny comes out to be the ring announcer for the upcoming match.

WWF Tag Team Championship- Headbangers © vs. Godwinns

This is the time when the Godwinns have Uncle Cletus with them. Does a horseshoe sound familiar to you? All four guys brawl, and the Headbangers clean house. Mosh and Phineas start. Mosh hits a crossbody, and tags Thrasher, who hits a rana. Double backdrop gets two. Phineas makes the tag to Henry, who throws Thrasher around the ring. Criss cross spot allows Thrasher to roll him up for two. Thrasher dropkicks him to the floor. Henry stalls outside for a minute. Phineas tags in, but the Headbangers get the best of him. Thrasher's on the second rope, and he gives Mosh a front suplex onto Phineas, for two. Thrasher comes off the top, but Henry slams him down to the mat. Henry gets the tag, and takes out Thrasher. Phineas clotheslines Thrasher out to the floor. Back inside, Phineas hits a bunch of knee drops on Thrasher. Thrasher comes back with a sunset flip for two, but the Godwinns keep control. Henry comes in and hits a slapjack for two. Double KO, and Thrasher tries to make the hot tag. Phineas prevents it and sends Thrasher to the corner. A charge misses, and Thrasher makes the tag. Double suplex to Phineas. Mosh powerbombs Thrasher onto Phineas for two. Mosh goes for the Mosh Pit, but it's countered into a powerbomb, allowing Phineas, to get the win & Tag Team titles, at 12:13. What a long, boring match. 1/2*, only for the Headbangers' effort and cool double-team spots. After the bell, the Godwinns continue to beat down the Headbangers. Finally, the ref says that if the Godwinns don't leave, he'll reverse his decision, while everyone in the arena and at home hopes they do stay. Unfortunately, they leave, but then again, that's also good.

Video package about Steve Austin & Owen Hart. Owen broke his neck at Summerslam with the sit-down Tombstone. WWF Officials refuse to let Austin wrestle. They stripped him of his Tag Title & Intercontinetal title. Austin started attacking all the officials, starting with JR at Ground Zero, and ending with Vince McMahon on Raw in MSG. A Tournament was held to crown a new IC Champion. The Finals are tonight, with Owen Hart & Faarooq.

The WWF holds a special Legends ceremony, honoring Gene Kininski, Jack Brisco, Dory Funk Jr., Harley Race, Terry Funk, Lou Thesz, & Sam Muchnick.

WWF Intercontinetal Championship Tournament Final- Owen Hart vs. Faarooq

Steve Austin is ringside, as he's supposed to present the winner with the title. Owen is wearing his awesome "Owen 3:16" Shirt. On the back is written, "I Just Broke Your Neck". I would have bought it. Austin does commentary for English, Spanish, & French teams ringside. Owen comes after Faarooq, working the knee. In between, he yells at Austin. Owen's shoulder meets the ring post. Faarooq hits a backbreaker for two. Slam attempt, but Owen goes over for two. Faarooq clotheslines. Faarooq goes to the second rope, and misses a splash. Slam gets two. Spinebuster gets two. Meanwhile, Jim Neidhart comes out, as Commissioner Slaughter, who was ringside to prevent Austin from getting involved in the match, stops him. Faarooq is choking Owen on the ropes. Austin runs over and bashes Faarooq with the IC Title. Owen covers, and gets the win, at 7:14. Terrible match. 1/4* Owen walks to the back saying, "I did it all on my own!" Owen rules.

Eight-Man Tag Team Match- DOA vs. Los Buricuas

I've said it once, and I'll say it again... Because when the WWF needs a PPV Filler, they bring in the Gang Warz! Action is way to boring to call, especially since I can barely tell the Buricuas apart 75% of the time. The only exception is Savio Vega. Here's some highlights of the match. Chinlock by Boricua, chinlock by Skull/8-Ball. In the end, Crush hits a tilt-whirl-slam, to get the win, at a wasted 8:25 of my time. DUD.

Flag Match- Bret Hart & British Bulldog vs. Vader & The Patriot

Bret Hart is still WWF Champion at this point. New stipulations before the match... it can be won by capturing your flag or pinfall/submission. Well, that ruins the concept of the match, now doesn't it? Big brawl outside to start. Vader slams Bret against the guard rail. Vader beats Bret down with his flag. The bell hasn't rung yet. Meanwhile, Patriot chokes Bulldog with the cable wire. The bell rings, and Patriot goes for the flag, but Bulldog makes the save. Patriot hits a shoulderblock for two. He goes back up, but Bret saves this time. Patriot hits him out of the way, and hiptosses Bulldog. Backdrop, and Vader gets the tag. Vader pummels away, before Bulldog tags Bret in. Slugfest, which Vader wins. Short arm clothesline. Bulldog comes in, and they double-team Vader. Vader hits Bret with a splash for two. Bulldog comes in, but gets dropkicked by Patriot. Patriot hits Bulldog with some Flair chops, and tries to get the flag. Bret & Bulldog stop him, and throw him off. Bret chokes Patriot, as Bulldog goes for his flag, but Vader throws him down to the mat. Patriot misses a corner charge, and he's crotched. Bret goes outside and locks in the ringpost figure-four! Vader saves. Bret still works on Patriot, while Bulldog & Vader brawl. Inside, Bret locks Patriot in the Sharpshooter, but Patriot reverses it! Bulldog makes the save. Big brawl in the American Flag corner. Patriot comes out of the mess, just barely grabbing his flag. Bulldog slams him down to the mat. Bret & Bulldog double-team Patriot for two. Patriot tags in Vader, who slams Bulldog. A splash gets two. He goes up for the flag, but Bret stops him. Bulldog gives Vader a snapmare! Bret gets the tag. Bret manages a suplex on him, and locks in the Sharpshooter! Vader makes it to the ropes, but Bret won't give. Patriot saves. Vader lowblows the Hitman, and locks in his own version of the Sharpshooter! Bulldog saves. Patriot hits Bret with the Patriot Missile from the top. He locks Bret in a figure-four. Bret gets the tag to Bulldog while in the figure-four. Bulldog cleans house. Hanging vertical suplex gets two on Patriot. Patriot comes back, hitting Bulldog with a powerslam for two. He heads for the flag, but Bulldog hits him down, and tags in Bret. Bret knees him and gives him a snap suplex for two. Vader hits him off. Both guys tag out, making it Bulldog & Vader. Vader slams Bulldog, and goes up top. He misses the Vadersault, as Bulldog moves, but surprisingly lands on his feet. He's agile! Vader and Bret fight outside. Bret nails him with the ringbell. Back inside, Vader comes back, but gets slammed. Bret hits him with the second rope elbow. Leg drop. Bret hits a DDT for two. Bret & Bulldog go for a double clothesline, but Vader ducks it and clotheslines them both. Patriot gets the tag, cleaning house. He hits Bret with the Uncle Slam for two, as Bulldog saves. Then, a fan even runs in, but Bulldog and security take him out. Everyone's in now. Vader hits Bret with the Vader Bomb, before heading outside to fight with Bulldog. The Patriot rolls Bret up for two, but Bret rolls through, and pins the Patriot, at 23:43. Could have lost about 5-10 minutes, but was still decent enough. ***1/4

Backstage, Dok Hendrix interviews Shawn Michaels, along with HHH, Rick Rude, & Chyna.

---

Video package for Shawn Michaels & Undertaker, Hell in a Cell! At Summerslam, Michaels cost Undertaker the title when he accidentally nailed him with a chair, as the referee. Bret Hart won the title that night. A few weeks later, Michaels formed an alliance with HHH & Chyna, and brought Rick Rude back, unofficially forming DX. At Ground Zero, Taker & Michaels had one hell of a brawl that ended in a Double DQ. At One Night Only, Shawn won the European title from British Bulldog with help from HHH & Chyna. A rematch was needed. To prevent all kinds of interference like Ground Zero, a new cage had to be made... Hell in a Cell!

Hell in a Cell- Shawn Michaels vs. Undertaker

This is a non-title match. Also, the winner gets a title shot at Survivor Series. Undertaker immediately goes after him. Michaels charges, but runs into a big boot. Taker pummels away at him. Michaels ducks a clothesline, and gets a shot in, but Taker quickly comes back, whipping him into the other corner. Michaels does a Flair Flip. Taker punches him down for two, although it seemed that Taker didn't put much effort into the cover. Taker works the shoulder and hits the ropewalk. Leg drop gets two. Irish whip, and Taker gives him a HUGE backdrop, that has Shawn's feet hitting the top of the cage! Taker then tosses him out to the floor. Shawn is totally getting his ass kicked, and as an Undertaker mark back then, I was loving it! Taker heads outside, still pummeling away. He attempts a powerbomb, just barely getting him up, but Shawn holds onto the cage. Taker turns around and rams him into the cage. Some more vicious shots follow. He picks Shawn up and rams him onto the cage and ringpost repeatedly. Shawn suddenly makes a comeback, hitting multiple shots. The crowd is all over him. Michaels heads back in, as a woozy Taker follows. Michaels heads over to Taker, who's on the ring apron. Taker hits a stunner on the ropes, which sends Michaels flying. Shawn quickly rams Taker off the apron and into the cell! As Taker gets to his feet, Michaels hits him with a suicide dive through the ropes, hitting the cage on the way out. Shawn maintains control, climbing halfway up the cage and dropping an elbow. He goes on the apron, runs, and hits a flying clothesline. Michaels grabs the steel steps, and drops them on Taker. He then piledrives Taker onto the remaining steps! He goes back inside and up top. Michaels hits an axehandle to the outside. He pushes Taker back in, and grabs a chair from underneath the ring. He delivers some shots to the back, to get two. Slugfest, and Shawn ties Taker into the ropes. He gets a few shots in, before charging at him, when Taker kicks him in the face. Shawn charges again, but Taker is free and backdrops him outside and onto a cameraman! Shawn takes out Taker again, and he heads outside to continue assaulting the cameraman. This forces Commissioner Slaughter to come out, and open the cage door to get the cameraman out. Meanwhile, inside, Michaels hits the Showstopper Elbow, and warms up the band. Taker gets to his feet, only to meet Sweet Chin Music! Not a second passes, though, before Taker sits up in Deadman fashion! Michaels is scared straight, and runs out the cage door! Taker follows. They brawl in the aisle. Shawn goes for a dropkick, but Taker grabs his feet, and slingshots him into the cage! Taker than puts him over his shoulder and rams him, face-first, into the cage two times! Michaels is completely busted open, now! The second Shawn is free, he starts to climb the cage. Taker tries to pull him down, but Shawn kicks him away, and continues climbing to the top. Taker follows. Shawn gains the advantage at the top. He attempts a piledriver, but Taker counters, backdropping him onto the steel cage! Taker then press slams him, back-first onto the steel! Shawn barely crawls away. He tries to climb down, near the three commentary tables, but Taker stomps away at his hands. Shawn, from half-way up the cell, ends up crashing through the table! Sick bump! Taker goes down, throwing Michaels through the pieces of the table. They fight back inside to the ring. Shawn is up top, but Taker chokeslams him off! He goes outside, and grabs a chair. Shawn gets to his feet, only to get one hell of a chairshot! Revenge of the Taker, Part II.. Taker gets revenge from the chairshots that Michaels gave him at Summerslam and the Raw from Atlantic City, which I attended. Taker signals for the Tombstone. Suddenly, the lights go out, and out emerges Kane & Paul Bearer. Fire explodes behind them, as they head to the ring with Undertaker looking on. Kane easily rips the cage door off, and ramming referee Earl Hebner into the cage. Kane goes inside, and has a big staredown with Undertaker. Kane raises and drops his arms, and all the fire and pyro goes off. Taker turns for one second, and Kane Tombstones him! Kane & Paul Bearer leave, as everyone is down, and Earl Hebner crawls into the ring. Shawn barely turns over onto Undertaker as Hebner counts a very slow 3-count, at 29:57. Shawn Michaels gets the win, in one of the most brutal matches ever, and easily the best Hell in a Cell of them all! ***** without a doubt! Shawn then goes on to challenge Bret Hart fot the title at Survivor Series.

Badd Blood.. hmm, let's see. When you watch the show in it's from the start to the beginning of the Hell in a Cell, it is such a terrible PPV, with 5/6 of the matches being under * or none. That easily earns a "Strongest Recommendation to Avoid". BUT, the main event Hell in a Cell is one of the WWF's greatest main events. First of all, the Shawn Michaels-Undertaker feud was kick-ass. The storyline going into HIAC was great. Undertaker is totally out to kill Shawn, who's only defense against Taker is by cheapshotting him and double-team attacks along with HHH. That brings the cage into the match. The match is just awesome, especially with the story. The Undertaker-Shawn Michaels HIAC is definitely the best HIAC match ever, no matter what anyone tells you. Undertaker-Mankind HIAC is definitely more brutal with Foley's sick bumps, but Badd Blood's features not only brutality, but a good story and some wrestling. With all that said, I'll say...

Recommended, but ONLY for the Main Event

BTW, for my next Rant, it's either Survivor Series 1996 or 1997... First person that replies can pick...

Yeah, Bob. It ruled as usual, but you doing SS 97 would be like taboo, so stick with 96. 97...well, it just wasn't right man.

Well, Survivor Series 96 it is then...

BTW, I want to change my opinion for Badd Blood real fast. The only reason to even watch the show is the HIAC. Now, the "Undertaker: It's My Yard" DVD seems to feature it, so go by that instead.

Survivor Series 96 as soon as I have time.
