Guest Jobber of the Week Report post Posted August 15, 2002 To steal a catchphrase: If you want Vince Russo's ass fired from TNA, then gimme a Hell Yeah. I think this guy is slowly ruining the show. It's been a month since I've watched and aside from The Truth's title win, I don't feel like I've missed anything to really make noise about. In fact, what I have heard is comments like "This is shitty" "I'm not buying this again anytime soon" and "Wow, this is like a Mecca of WrestleCrap." Although the product was not perfect in it's opening stages (wrestling penises, NASCAR drivers, racism angle,) it was New and it was Different and while it wasn't good, it was decent if your expectations weren't that high. Then Russo arrived, and almost immediately the show seemed to filled with gags that Carrot Top would be embarrased of, angle-based matches that do nothing to build or blow off a feud and only serve to advertise the next show, and a few Top of The B-List young stars with nothing to do. Money that could be used to bring in more competition for guys like Truth, Low-Ki, Styles, etc is being spent on midgets and several tag teams that nobody cares and only serve as fodder. And when your promotion is subject to "how many weeks can they last?" polls, unnecessary fodder is NOT a good use of money. How much of the current situation do you believe Russo is responsible for? Do you think he should be fired or not? If he was, how much do you think things would improve?

Guest TheRockIsTheEuropeanChampion Report post Posted August 15, 2002 I agree. Tonight's show was just.. awful. What WAS that? I really wish I hadn't bought it, now... Sadly I'm really not sure if I want to get next week's show... And I only started watching last week. Figures...

Guest CoreyLazarus416 Report post Posted August 15, 2002 I'm saying no. Hear me out... Russo knows who to push. He knows how to get workers over (trust me, he does). And, with the proper watchdog to make sure he doesn't write horseshit like the Dupp Cup, he can make some captivating television. My only complaint about Russo's booking is that it seems to increase the amount of profanity in the promotion. I watch my NWA:TNA tapes (I record each week for my own viewing) with my 7-year-old nephew all the time, and he LOVES the wrestling matches. He LOVES AJ Styles and LowKi, and the work they do. He's a workrate mark at the tender age of 7. But with Brian Lawler saying "I don't give a shit" left and right, and the homophobic angle that Bruce is involved in (I fucking hate it how Russo can't get it through his head that not all gay men are cross-dressing sissies that want to be women), as well as Bo Dupp's ass on my screen...why should I bother letting my nephew watch anymore for maybe 15 minutes of solid wrestling? When has such a watchdog existed? Even during "Attitude", we still had Big Show's Daddy Dies (oh boy, Big Bossman gets a shot at the WWF title at Survivor Series~!), the whole "I choppy-choppy your peepee" angle, and some other crap. Guest Tony149 Report post Posted August 15, 2002 Russo didn't book the Big Show's Dad cancer angle. It was Terry Taylor. The whole Bossman/Show stuff happened after Russo left. Russo can get out of control at times, but he can be useful to any promotion. Since TNA is on PPV he knows he can push things further in terms of content. Guest Angle2004 Report post Posted August 15, 2002 I think Russo needs a really good filter to seperate the crap from the good stuff. He should be kept around because of the work he's done with guys like the Truth. He made the Truth into a star in a month. He's also developing Monty Brown. Same with Jerry Lynn. The Dupp Cup, Miss TNA, etc is crap and that's where Jerry Jarret needs to come in and take it out.
Guest Indy Report post Posted August 15, 2002 Hell Yeah. The Gay Bruce angle, the stupid Midgets and screwing Double J.... HELL YEAH
Guest JHawk Report post Posted August 16, 2002 I haven't seen any of the Russo era shows, but when you have A.J. Styles, Jerry Lynn, Ron Killings, and Jeff Jarrett in the same match and people are going "That was not good", you have a problem.
Guest The Notorious CRD Report post Posted August 16, 2002 I'm not sure if Russo should go or not, but I definitely think Jerry Jarrett needs to start reining him in a lot more than he has the past 2 weeks or so. I can honestly say that NWA TNA is my favorite promotion right now, but that can change if I see that they aren't willing to keep doing things the right way. I don't expect perfection, but when I complain about a product I'm paying for, I do expect results.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted August 16, 2002 Let me ask you this, since I don't really know. Were the shows that were BEFORE Russo had "controll" of his first entire show better, or worse than what he's put on? I think that right there can tell you a lot about if he should stay or go. Were they doing it before him, or has he truly improved anything as a whole?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted August 16, 2002 That's a trick question Downhome. The best week TNA has had from top to bottom, IMO is week 4...the week before Russo took over booking. From an out of ring standpoint...Russo's era has been FAR FAR FAR worse. In ring...until this week had been pretty damn good under Russo. This week...the in ring stuff couldn't bail out the out of ring stuff. The addition of Jive Talking and the Dupp Cupp and midgets with handguns...is enough for me to say Russo gets the boot...regardless of the fact that my personal pick for MOTY so far came under his watch. Well, in my opinion you need not take the in ring quality into effect when talking about my question really. We all know that Russo isn't here to improve upon that, his deal is the other stuff surrounding it. The high quality matches are going to take place with Russo there or not. Now, with that said... ...has Russo really done anything to build people up, create angle and gimmicks which will make for interesting enough TV to get people to want to buy next weeks show, after the one they just checked out? This is what Russo is there for, and if he isn't getting this done, then I say he goes. I am not going to lie and say that I've watched the shows, as I have not. I'm just trying to bring up a few points, so I can at least contribute somehow to this discussion. So since Russo took over, has the our of ring material truly improved, or has it, in fact, began to decrese in quality. Speaking of our of ring stuff... ...did you say midgets with handguns? [qutoe]The addition of Jive Talking and the Dupp Cupp and midgets with handguns... ...damn, I guess you did. If there is one thing that will keep them for garnering any type of respect from fans, much less from possible television outlets, it's sh*t like that. Let me ask you this also... ...did this begin before Russo came on, or afterwords? I think there are plenty of guys out there just waiting for the chance to be in Russo's posistion, who could in fact do it better than him. Call me crazy, but I feel they could hire SOMEONE to do what he is "legendary" for, and do it without all of the borderline, over the top, button pushing crap for shock value. Yeah, I'm talking about someone who can come in and promote people, build new stars up, and come up with interesting gimmicks and angles without the use of making people go "damn that was disguesting" or "this is pure sh*t". Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted August 16, 2002 I'll give Russo credit for this, and I hope it isn't lost on anyone: He is the one who put the ball in K-Krush's hands. He named him the Truth, and let him go. That shouldn't be overlooked in all his mess.
Guest converge241 Report post Posted August 16, 2002 unfortunately the truth doesnt make me shell out 10 bucks a week anymore i havent watched for three weeks (and counting). The bad is far outweighing his good. Killings would be fine without Russo
