Guest areacode212 Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 I don't see why everyone hates the spear. If the victim sells it right (doubling over), it looks like a really painful move. Over the years, there have been a lot of finishers that look much less credible than the spear. One a night (If that) is perfectly acceptable. Is FIVE really necessary? It's not that different from Austin stunning people left and right. It worked for him, so they're trying to do the same for Edge.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 this was OK, no talk of HHH, minimal steph, step in the right direction, and Henry's canned heat was disgusted, and Cole said the crowd was hot, and then piped in heat came in suspiciously
Guest JHawk Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 How the hell was that crowd "hotter than they were for Raw"? Even with canned heat they were quieter tonight
Guest Anglesault Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 Christian: Edge, you always stole the spotlight from me! It was always 'Edge and Christian,' not 'Christian and Edge!' It's my time to shine! Edge: You wet the bed, dork! ::sound of Christian's career flushing down the toilet:: Rock's done stuff like that before. Plus, Christian wasn't exactly over when it happened anyway. Neither was Edge. Want to know why Edge wasn't that over? Because he totally dismissed his oponent as a non threat. Another HUGE Edge trait. But that's a horse of a totally different color. The reason Edge does a "pussified" spear maybe because it isn't his real finisher It certainly beat Kurt Angle enough. It's not that different from Austin stunning people left and right. It worked for him, so they're trying to do the same for Edge Austin would also do the occastional chair run in, but I see your point. I just find Edge more offensive.

Another HUGE Edge trait. Rock's never done that either? What about on RAW when he completely humiliated Eddy Guerrero before that match? Or the Jericho feud where he did much of the same thing? If it wasn't for the fact that Eddy is a rudo GOD in the ring and Rock putting over Jericho(albeit not cleanly) then some people would be screaming bloody murder.
Guest the pinjockey Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 Wow another Rock interview starts with pointless announcer line, 37 WHOAs from the Rock, then announcer bashing. God I am so sick of this. I wish people would stop cheering this so he would actually have to do something with his character.
Guest areacode212 Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 Austin would also do the occastional chair run in, but I see your point. I just find Edge more offensive. Well, FWIW, I got sick REALLY quickly of seeing Austin end every Raw standing tall, surrounded by his dead victims (and I LIKED him), so I can probably see why you'd be tired of Edge doing it.
Guest Anglesault Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 Because when it comes time for the match (Or even attacks) Rock usually makes the guy look great.
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 was Angle busted open the hardway?
Guest Shaved Bear Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 i nearly got a seizure when Edge came out
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 Nah, it looked like he bladed. Don't know why, though.
Guest Austin3164life Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 I think it was Rey's INTENSE~ leather pants that cut Angle. That's the only explanation I can think of.
Guest Anglesault Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 Who the hell blades on a hurricanranna? I think Rey's foot nicked him or maybe he hit his face on the ring the wrong way
Guest Shaved Bear Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 yea because logically, landing on your back can not normally make your face bleed
Guest Big McLargeHuge Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 Cheat to win, baby! Jericho actually stomped when he threw a punch on Monday. Just saying. It's a step forward.
Guest Kid Kablam Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 What was with that whole disturbing Benoit segment with Steph tonight? My god. "I'm gonna make the Rock moan, I'm gonna make him squeal!!!" Time to quit watching Deliverance there, Chris. I too am baffled at Steph. How is she supposed to be a face? Didn't someone say the Observer reported WWE desperately wants her as a face? I mean to be a face you have to be somewhat nice to people, which Steph isn't. Anyway, SMDN was a pretty decent show but as it goes with this show it just seems like a bunch of guys having matches with little actually going on. That's why Raw's thread is about 40 pages and this thread is 4. Personally the thing I noticed most was that Steph seemed a little excited by Benoit. I mean, she seemed ready to jump him. Who knows, maybe Benoit can pull another Sullivan/Woman thing with Steph. That would be wicked cool.

Unless it's Benoit slapping her around, locking her in the crossface while she shouts "Oh yeah, more, more!" and somehow getting her off my TV, god no.

Hah hah Except that this time, it wouldn't result in Benoit being de-pushed, but being given the Jesus push (HHH ™) instead. Then Steph would actually become the #1 face of the smark communtity, as Benoit's high priestess!
Guest TestKick Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 If I was Angle, I'd be really pissed at Rey. There's no place for that kind of sloppiness in WWE. I'd give Rey 1 warning, then out the door. I thought Mark Henry looked better vs. Kurt Angle. It looked like Mark picked up the pace, and gave full effort to try to keep up with Kurt. Lesnar-Rikishi was disappointing. I really thought it was going to be a good match. Rikishi's antics were stupid, they should have focused more on making it a workmanlike power affair.

Second, they won't fire a guy because he busts some people open (see RVD). Third, Angle is the most fragile guy I've ever seen in terms of bleeding hardway. The guy walks in a ring and starts bleeding (also see his matches with RVD).
Guest notJames Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 I thought Mark Henry looked better vs. Kurt Angle. It looked like Mark picked up the pace, and gave full effort to try to keep up with Kurt. But the whole point of the match was a submission win for Angle. Henry no-sold his ankle injury a minute after he "injured" it, especially on the press slam, which would have been a no-brainer instance to sell the injury. Even Mark Henry-fast is slow for everyone else. Hell, Rikishi is basically as big and he moves a hell of a lot faster than Henry. As for Edge handling all three guys at once, in you notice, Angle and the Guerreros had all wrestled matches prior to the run-in by a fresh, un-winded Edge. So naturally, he was able to vanquish them all. Five spears or no, it makes sense if you think about it. Besides, the crowd always pops for the überface save against impossible odds. And just let me reiterate, BENOIT IS GOD~!
Guest Brian Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 Watching it on TV, I realize that they did overdue the Edge thing just a little.
Guest Your Olympic Hero Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 and why is helms stuck in this tag thing when he's one of the most over guys on the show? Rewatch the show and listen to the pop he gets when he comes out. It's nothing special. Nowhere near what it used to be.

Ummm Testkick- Kurt Angle broke Bob Holly's arm
Guest TestKick Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 That was as much Angle's fault as Holly's. Why the hell did Holly slightly raise his arm up before Angle landed? If he didn't, he wouldn't have been injured at all. With Rey it is different. Angle is praised for his wrestling style. Rey is noted for working his fast pace that puts the other wrestlers in danger. There's no need for that, he needs to calm down, and work on his spots correctly.

Okay, so let me get this straight. You are saying that we should give Rey Misterio Jr, a guy who has wrestled for... hell I don't really know how long he's wrestled for, who puts his body on the line with his moveset, who despite the fact that he has worked for a while has not garnered a reputation for injuring people (unless I've missed something), should be released before some vehemouth slob who stumbles around and puts pressure ON the ankle he's supposed to be selling? And you don't even know if it was hardway or blade job? Riiiiiiiight.
Guest CanadianChick Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 testkick's post make me realize something...will Angle's wife go shooting on Rey like she did with RVD when he busted Angle open?
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Posted August 16, 2002 Report Posted August 16, 2002 testkick's post make me realize something...will Angle's wife go shooting on Rey like she did with RVD when he busted Angle open? I'd laugh my ass off if that happened again. Maybe Rey could get in a rebuttal by saying "Shaddup, BITCH!".
Guest Anglesault Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 No, the best part of that, is Rey's face probably comes up to about Karen Angle's tits, and Angle will be livid about Rey checking Karen out. AS THE WWE TURNS~! As for Edge handling all three guys at once, in you notice, Angle and the Guerreros had all wrestled matches prior to the run-in by a fresh, un-winded Edge. So naturally, he was able to vanquish them all. Five spears or no, it makes sense if you think about it Edge just wrestled as well. And does anyone else remember the Orange Miudget practically screaming at Mark Henry to sell the damn ankle on the press slam?
