Guest meanmaisch Report post Posted August 16, 2002 The Falcons also suck and the Atlanta fanbase has proven that they really don't care about pro sports. Hell, the Braves have been the best team in the NL for years and they never get the crowds that the Yankess do.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted August 17, 2002 Hmm.. Up here for the Redskins, similar to the Packers and a couple other teams, there is a waiting list for season tickets. The Ravens could be in trouble, but I think the fan support will be there this year at least. If they continue to suck, the fans will bail on them ; see Orioles, Baltimore. Guest Mad the Swine Report post Posted August 17, 2002 Yes, the Falcons suck. Fans don't come because they've never been given a reason to come. The year after the Super Bowl appearance, ticket sales were huge. But after that... If the Braves' attendance is lower than the Yanks', there's a reason. New York City has over two million people to fill out its stadium. Metro Atlanta might be 750,000, but the Braves have to rely on the rest of state, too. Rural Georgians constitute a huge amount of ticket sales. Since rural Georgia is a lot less populated and a lot further away than people in New York, ticket sales will be a little lower. Plus, Yankee Stadium holds more people than Turner Field. The Hawks suck, too. Oddly enough, Ted Turner wanted them to suck when he first bought them in the late 1970s. He wanted them to get the first draft pick and do so poorly he could move the team to Charlotte. Turner even experimented by having a few Hawks home games in Charlotte. Problem was, the Hawks got on an incredible streak and ended up making the playoffs. Plans were ruined and Turner switched sides and started supporting the Hawks in Atlanta. Guest treble charged Report post Posted August 17, 2002 It says something about Atlanta's fans that the Hawks, the Thrashers, and the Falcons are all near the bottom of attendance in their respective leagues. And the whole, "low population" argument doesn't hold water, either. The Green Bay Packers, for example.

Guest Crippler15 Report post Posted August 17, 2002 I live app. 50 miles from Atl so maybe i can chime in with my comments. First off I am only 16 and if it was up to me I would buy season tickets to the Hawks,Braves, and Falcons. The Braves are really loved but I live in one of those rural areas and the word I get from a lot of old people that live here is that they would rather watch the game at home. The braves attendance is still good. The Thrashers were one of the worst teams in the NHL last year so I can understand people not supporting it. It also seems the lower south-east you get the less intresting hockey becomes to people. I know the Carolina Hurricane fans were going crazy but I would expect the same thing out of Atlanta if they made it to the Stanley Cup. The Hawks were bad to. The only team that I think did not get a fair shake was the Falcons last year. The owneship was bad and quite frankly more people wanted to see more of Vick. You also have to put into effect that we are a great college football town and the Dawgs and Jackets are sold out almost every week. The Falcons so far have had a huge increase just for preseason games so there is hope their. Overall I wouldn't dare put atl in the top tier as far as sports towns go. Those are Boston, New York, and Chicago, but I think sometimes people give atl a bad shake. Hey if the team sucks year after year why go and see them.
