WWF Survivor Series

Recommended Posts

Guest nWoScorpion

I just recently purchased both these taps off ebay and, since ihavnt seen 89 in about 6 years and 1991 around the same amount, I forgot the quality of the shows. Anywho, does anyone remember which was better and anything that stands out from the shows?

Just my opinion, of course, but I always preferred 1991.  I can't pinpoint why, but my guess would be Gorilla and Heenan working together on commentary.  Those two had a habit of making complete crap entertaining.

The only thing I really remember from 1989 was Heenan pinning Marty Jannetty and Ventura sounding almost apologetic that Hogan found a way to survive.  Neither show was anything special, but they were decent shows.

1991 Survivor Series has a GREAT opening match, with non stop action and a super hot crowd. The ending is weak, but it's still a teriffic match. The remaining four matches are BRUTAL (in a bad way), and there is too much time hyping the upcoming "This Tuesday in Texas" PPV. Monsoon and Heenan on commentary did make the bad parts much easier to swallow though.

1989 Survivor Series is pretty weak all around, especially the "Hulkamaniacs vs. The Million $ Team" match. Far too many eliminations occuring by count-out and disqualification.

I hope you didn't pay too much money for either tape. I've always thought that the only "good" Survivor Series PPVs were 1996 (best by far), 1987, 1995 and maybe 1994.

Ha small world bro. I do believe that the auction you are referring to was none other than mine. I'll get to ya soon with the shipping info.

Anyway 1991 was a little better wrestling wise and Heenan/Monsoon can't be touched. However, SS '89 was the first wrestling of any kind that I ever saw, so I usually go with that based on that reason. However, 1991 is better from a normal view, simply because it had a lot of firsts. Flair's first WWF PPV, Taker's first WWF title win and Heenan and Monsoon's always entertaining commentary.

I'm with the majority here, and I thought that Survivor Series 1991 show was better than the 1989 show.  Wrestling wise, I don't think either show was that great, but I do remember the curtain jerker match in '91 having Flair, DiBiase, Hart and I believe Piper all in the same match, and it was one of the better Survivor Series elimination matches that I've seen.  Top that with Taker beating Hogan (albeit by screwjob) and that kinda makes the show stand out.

89 was just kind of an 'eh' showing.  I don't remember much standing out, let alone anything I'd call 'must see' or 'mindblowing'

Just a thought.

What a coincidence, hehe. By what iremember from 89 i can only thing of BBM laying the smackdown on Dustys fat ass, and Rockers or was it warrior? either dropkicking him or clotheslining him out in 30 econds and heenan gettin whooped.

1991 all i remember is a bit of the opening match and the UT vs. hogan match (since they shown it on excess,i have a better viw over it) Thanks for the feed back.
