I'm sure I missed some great titles, and I didn't list any of the current CGI animated titles like Monsters, Inc. or Ice Age. I did add Titan A.E. because it combined CGI and hand drawn animation. I'm really only looking for favourites in non-Disney, traditionally animated films.

My pick?

The Iron Giant.

Nihm... I'm suprised you didn't include the animated Lord of The Rings/Hobbit trilogy.

Damn i'm torn. I liked The Iron Giant alot and it's the best childrens movie to come out in a long time. However i also like Heavy Metal alot.

Alas, I'm of the few people that prefered Heavy Metal 2000 (AKA Heavy Metal: FAKK 2) over the original...meh...

I picked The Secret Of Nimh. Any animated kids movie that can be that dark and violent and yet still for kids gets my vote.

Just a question: why no An American Tail or its superior sequel, An American Tail: Fievel Goes West? It's a Universal Studios animated film, and it's cute for the kids with adult undertones (the whores in Fievel Goes West, for example).

I haven't seen either American Tail films. Same goes with the animated Lord of the Rings/Hobbit/Return of the King.

My bad. :o

I've only seen Heavy Metal out of that list, which although it's a guilty pleasure of mine I can't really recommend it with a clear conscience due to the rather extreme misogyny in the flick. So I'd go with either Princess Mononoke (yep, hand-drawn) or Fritz the Cat.

I haven't seen Princess Mononoke yet...I'll get around to popping in the DVD someday. But for now, I'll go with Watership Down, which scared the hell out of me as a kid. The book is good, too.

South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut is my favourite North American animated film.

Let's not get started on animé.

Out of all those listed, definitely The Iron Giant. I haven't seen Secret of Nimh or either of the American Tale movies in years though...

If the list is excluding anime, my pick is The Iron Giant, which is my favorite animated movie PERIOD outside of Akira.

South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut was a pretty glaring omission though. Damn fine movie.

What about "The Last Unicorn"? I loved that one when I was a little kid... :D

I voted for "Heavy Metal", personally.

Wow... there's a BUNCH of missing stuff on here. Transformers, G.I. Joe, He-Man, Batman, Batman Beyond, Ferngully: The Last Rainforest...

Excluding anime and picking from the list, however, I'd pick Secret of NIMH. That movie scared the fucking shit out of me when I was little.

Damn, I missed out on more than I though (like South Park). My bad. Maybe I will do a SUPER, DUPER poll later.

Definately the Iron Giant wins out of this list. Brad Bird is a genius.

But An American Tale was also a wonderful movie. (I dare you not to choke up when Fivel sings "Somewhere out there")

And South Park is probably the funniest animated movie ever.

South Park wasn't hand-drawn. They've used computers to make the animation from the second season onward.
