So simply put, who are your award winners so far this year? AL -- MVP: A. Rodriguez. Yeah, he plays on a losing team, but he's an extraordinary ballplayer, and one of the best shortstops to ever play the game. He currently leads the league in home runs and RBIs, as a shortstop no less. And for those who point out Rodriguez' contract, the Rangers get more out of A-Rod than they do out of I-Rod, Juan Gonzalez, Chan Ho Park, and Carl Everett. THOSE are the contracts that are killing the Rangers. Cy Young: Pedro Martinez. He currently leads the league in strikouts, ERA, and sports a sterling 16-3 record. I pick him over Derek Lowe because he's struck out over 100 more batters. Rookie: Eric Hinske. Respectable batting numbers, 11 steals, and little competition. Most Improved: Alfonso Soriano. Blossomed into a 30/30 player. Manager: Ron Gardenhire. First year as a major league manager and he's got the Twins on cruise control towards the playoffs. NL -- MVP: Bonds. He's threatening Ted Williams OBP record. Need I say more? CY Young: Curt Schilling. 20 Wins, and a remarkable BB/K ratio. Rookie: Austin Kearns. If Griffey returns to form, the outfield of Kearns Dunn and Griffey may be one of the best ever. Most Improved: Vicente Padilla. Its not Gagne. Heres why....Gagne isn't that much better than last year. He was just placed into a better role for him. You could put a guy like Randy Johnson in the closers role and he'd be dominant, but it wouldn't make him any better. Just my two cents. Manager: Jim Tracy. The Dodgers have succeeded despite having only two guys who could be labeled hitters.

Hunter's put up good numbers and easily stands above the rest of the Twins. Cy Young: Paul Byrd. Screw everybody, let's give to Byrd. He's been a workhorse and he's done it without the offense or the visibility everybody else gets. Rookie: Hinske. He's put up more production that just about every other rookie. Most Improved: Randy Winn. He was an average little player in somebody else's chain and now he's pretty good on a bad, bad team. Manager: Mike Scoscia. NL MVP: Jeff Kent. I think Bonds is overrated. Badly. Kent scares me as a hitter way more than Bonds. Cy Young: Curt Schilling. There ain't no other choice. Rookie: Jason Jennings. He's good. And he's in Colorado. Most Improved: Junior Spivey. His stats have really seemed to come together this year. Manager: Frank Robinson. You do good things with a club with a bleak future.

Cy Young: His name escapes me but he plays for anaheim. 16-3 come on Rookie: Hinske Most improved: Soriano Manager: Twins manager (late night names escape me) NL MVP: Shawn Green Cy young: Tom Glavine RookieL Jason Marquis atlanta (yes he's in the running) Most improved: Ryan Klesko Manager: Bobby Cox This guy again iw/ injuries has done it

AL Cy Young: Pedro Martinez. Beats out Lowe, because he means more to the Red Sox and I think Lowe would struggle without Martinez. AL ROY:Eric Hinske. Lopez of Baltimore is having a great season. Most Improved:Tim Salmon AL MOY:Ron Gardenhire. Depite the recent struggles he's edges Scoscia and How amongst others in close race. NL MVP:Barry Bonds. NL CY Young: Curt Schilling. Randy Johnson is still in it. NL ROY:A tough choice. Prior is clearly the best rookie. But he doesn' have enough wins. I had no idea Jennings was a rookie, I'll believe who ever mentioned him and pick him.Kearns is the runner-up. Most Improved: Junior Spivey. NL MOY: Bobby Cox. Jim Tracy is runner-up.

Lost only 1 game to American League teams. 1! And that just happened last week. AL Rookie: Hinkse. Slumping a bit right now, but has been great for the most part. NL MVP: Bonds. NL Cy Young: Schilling. Dominating throughout the season 'cept for a couple starts. NL Rookie: Kearns.

AL Cy Young: Pedro Martinez, Boston, who just barely gets the nod over Derek Lowe for the way he has been shutting down opponents. AL Rookie of the Year: Eric Hinske, Toronto. Pretty much the unanimous choice, he's been the only rookie of note in the AL. AL Manager of the Year: Mike Scioscia, Anaheim. He took a team that looked like nothing in April and turned them into playoff contenders. NL MVP: Sammy Sosa, Chicago. Again having a great season, and singlehandedly keeping the Cubs above water. Spectacular numbers, made even better by the fact that other than McGriff he is the only threat in the Cub lineup. NL Cy Young: Curt Schilling, Arizona. Simply dominant all year, and the 18 walks thing is just absurd. NL Rookie of the Year: Jason Jennings, Colorado. 13-5...for the Rockies???? That alone gives him the nod. NL Manager of the Year: Bobby Cox, Atlanta. This was supposed to be a down year for Atlanta, but instead looks to be one of their strongest.

His win-loss record is great for being on a team such as Toronto, and is right behind Lowe/Martinez for the third best ERA in the AL. If he gets no votes, a very unhappy baseball fan will I be.

Saturday Giradi runs to 3rd with a runner on the base, Sunday Sosa and Bellhorn collide and Damian Miller gets an inside the park homerun and ball doesn't even make it to the bullpen. Sosa's a great player, but the Cubs are one of the worst fundamental teams in baseball. They drowned 2 months ago.

The NL MVP race is wide open...you could argue Bonds, but Kent is also having a good season, picking up the pace after a bad first part of the season. Shawn Green was my MVP pick at the All-Star break but tailed off with the rest of the Dodgers for June and July. Sheffield really doesn't have MVP numbers. Didn't think of Vladimir Guerrero, you could make a case for him. Lance Berkman hasn't done much since the All-Star break. Cincy really doesn't have one MVP candidate. Pujols for St. Louis, he's quietly having a good season. I would like to go with Schilling, but A) most sportswriters won't vote for pitchers as MVP's and B) Johnson has been just as good, if juuuuuuuust a teeny notch below Schill this season. I picked Sosa mainly because of his numbers. I was about to write Bonds, but something stopped me...perhaps the fact that he's an asshole, maybe. An MVP-caliber asshole yes, but an asshole. Then again, Sosa wasn't the most hospitable person around Rick Reiley (sp?) and his threats to leave Chicago haven't been so great either. Eh, it's a pick em out of your hat in the NL. In the AL it's most likely going to be Soriano or Giambi.
Guest alkeiper Posted August 20, 2002 Report Posted August 20, 2002 We're not having the Bonds MVP debate again are we? So far he's 20 POINTS above Ted Williams single season OBP. His so far is the best EVER. Not Ted Williams, not Babe Ruth, not Ty Cobb ever got on base more often than Bonds has this season. His Slugging percentage is the 4th best ever, topped by only himself and Babe Ruth. He's on pace to draw 190 walks, which would shatter his own record. Face facts. Bonds has put together two of the greatest offensive seasons in history. And he's keeping the Giants in the pennant race for those who like that sort of thing. I can't see giving it to anyone else.

AL Cy Young: Pedro Martinez AL Manager: Art Howe- He has to get some credit for the A's being so good the past few years. NL MVP: Barry Bonds- Jerk? Yes. Regardless, hes the best player in the NL, and makes everyone's job in the lineup much easier with the amount of respect he gets. NL Cy Young: Curt Schilling NL Manager: Bobby Cox- The Braves stay on top year after year, despite having an average everyday lineup for the past 5 years.
