Guest redbaron51 Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 I know that there are some bands who just play a song that goes on for at least 15 minutes, but this is probably the longest song I have heard Thick As A Brick by Jethro Tull is an amazing CD, and it has only one song on it called thick as a brick, which goes up to 45 minutes in length. Dream Theater has some long ones too, with A Change of Seasons being 25 minutes... any other bands when it comes to epic songs such as those two, and that long
Guest Shaved Bear Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 well when one says long songs you have Inagaddadavvida, but didnt Kraftwerk do a long song as well
Guest Still Fly Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 Rappers Delight (Good Lord....) And Indagaddadavida....or however you spell it.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 alberquerque isnt a song as much as it is a rambling
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 "Moya" by Godspeed You Black Emperor...anything they do is basically a 20-25 minute instrumental. Also "Sister Ray" by the Velvet Underground, looooong stuff. Of course, these are mainly instrumentals. For songs with lyrics that go quite the length...well, my favorite's got to be "Pushit" by Tool. Almost 14 minutes, multiple movements...I'm diggin' it.
Guest Nevermortal Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 "Achiles: The Agony and the Ecstasy" by Manowar. 28 Minutes of My Life I'll Never Get Back.
Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 Hmm.... "The Decline" by NOFX is pretty long, about twenty minutes. Tool's Pushit, although that's been mentioned. Nine Inch Nail's Hurt. I'm not sure how long it is, but it's pretty long. I think.
Guest B-X Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 Anything Led Zeppelin did on their The Song Remains The Same CD. There is one 24 minute rendition of Whole Lotta Love..
Guest AzkulKazul Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 Green Carnation - Light of Day, Day of Darkness 60:06 Edge of Sanity - Crimson 40:00
Guest Shaved Bear Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 There is one 24 minute rendition of Whole Lotta Love.. oh God like the shorter one wasnt enough
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield takes up an entire record front and back. Atom Heart Mother's a long mofo as well. (And great) Other than that, I listen to grind for the most part, so don't look to me for long songs. For instance, Nasum's marathon record is around 2 minutes in length.
Guest Kotzenjunge Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 "Kashmir," Led Zepplin "Rapper's Delight," Sugar Hill Gang "Katy Song," Red House Painters "Blue Monday," New Order "Too Long," Daft Punk Of course, those are the longest enjoyable songs I've ever heard. I'm sure there are longer and more of them, but I just don't care to remember them.
Guest dilk bathoon Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 lets not forget "Do You Feel Like We Do" off frampton comes alive. 15 minutes of the infamous "robot guitar" solo.
Guest Sebastian_the_Bastard Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 Here's some good long songs... JIMMY EAT WORLD - just watch the fireworks SOMETHING CORPORATE
Guest Sebastian_the_Bastard Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 Here's some good long songs... JIMMY EAT WORLD - just watch the fireworks SOMETHING CORPORATE - konstantine TOOL - eulogy SLIPKNOT - iowa Hmm... for some reason those are all that are coming to mind right now. -Sebastian
Guest TheRockIsTheEuropeanChampion Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 Godspeed You Black Emporer is my favourite band when it comes to long songs, even though they're basically all instrumentals. "The Dead Flag Blues" is only 18 minutes, but it kicks ass. Yeah...
Guest ArkhamGlobe Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 Longest I can think of off the top of my head is Karn Evil 9 by Emerson, Lake & Plamer, which runs 29 minutes. Great music, if you're into prog rock.
Guest Zero_Cool Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 Albequerque is about 10:00 I think. Well, I remember a secret track on a Reel Big Fish cd being 11:00...but most of the song was just dick and fart jokes.
Guest EricMM Posted August 18, 2002 Report Posted August 18, 2002 The longest songs I own are Disgustipated, Pushit, and possibly Disposition/Reflection/Triad by TOOL. They play the last one as a chunk live so... There's also Third Eye by them. Disgustipated is really really not a song, and Pushit and Third Eye are real songs and are real LONG songs. The Decline is also massive and it's REALLY good. The CD is very cute.
Guest Tha Cunnysmythe Posted August 19, 2002 Report Posted August 19, 2002 Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield takes up an entire record front and back. I was going to mention that.
Guest JaKyL25 Posted August 19, 2002 Report Posted August 19, 2002 Here's some good long songs... JIMMY EAT WORLD - just watch the fireworks I think you got the wrong song title. I forget how long Just Watch the Fireworks is, but Goodbye Sky Harbor, the song that closes the Clarity album, is a good 16 minutes long, and easily the longest one on the album, much longer than Just Watch the Fireworks. Damn good album though. I think I'll listen to it again. B)
Guest The Metal Maniac Posted August 19, 2002 Report Posted August 19, 2002 Iron Maiden's "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" clocks in at about 13 minutes.
Guest Redhawk Posted August 19, 2002 Report Posted August 19, 2002 On a similar topic, a couple years ago this local 70s funk-style band was playing at some Seattle Center event which I've now forgotten...they had a song called "5 Minutes to Rock the House," and the song lasted like 15 minutes. Just thought that was odd.
Guest Nevermortal Posted August 19, 2002 Report Posted August 19, 2002 Lemme add "Tamlin" by Current93, which is 10 minutes but sounds like about 30. If you've never heard this song, make it a point to do so. Its pretty (unintentionally) funny.
Guest swan Posted August 19, 2002 Report Posted August 19, 2002 Edge of Sanity's "Crimson" is around an hour as is Fates Warning's "A Pleasant Shade of Gray".
Guest Vern Gagne Posted August 19, 2002 Report Posted August 19, 2002 MacArthur Park by Donna Summer Alice's Restruant by Arlo Guthrie
