This poll should be taken this time next year instead of 4 months after two of which have first launched.

Hmm..

Confirmed Release Dates:

March 26, 2002 Bloody Roar 3 (Fighting games on Gamecube? You dont say!)

April 30, 2002 Resident Evil 1 (Wont be a rehash as everyone is saying)

- A Super Awesome Gamecube June! -

(*)June 10, 2002 Star Fox Adventures

(*)June 17, 2002 WWF Wrestlemania X8

(*)June 24, 2002 Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem

August 12, 2002 Turok Evolution

Official release dates TBA at E3 in May:(Most likely Fall 2002 for all of them- in time for the holidays!)

(*)Q2 2002 UFC 3: Throwdown

(*)2002 Mario Sunshine

(*)2002 Perfect Dark: Zero

(*)2002 Zelda

(*)2002 Metriod Prime

2002 Soul Caliber 2

2002 Smugglers' Run 2 (As close to GTA3 as Gamecube Owners are going to get)

10+ Games right there by the end of the year that I consider to be the top Gamecube games that will be available. The ones with * are the ones that I consider must haves and plan to purchase myself, most notably the 3 week span in June. Those 3 games in June will make up more than enough for the lack of games right now. The cool thing about each of these games is that you can pretty much guarantee that that they will be great games, based on the track record of the franchises or the developers that are behind them.

Plus there are a ton of other games coming out which will probably be very good as well, and several that could probably sneak in under everyone's radar.

Eh can't argue with taste.  That list doesn't make me regret selling my NGC (not that I didn't like it fine, I just didn't have time for two systems), but to each his own, all those games will probably be pretty good.  Well, except for BR3, it won't even be in the same world as TK4 or VF4, heh.

On another note, what's with all these people picking the PS2, but hoping that will change?  What does everyone have against Sony?!  Hehe.

It's got a head start. That's why I said this poll is orettt much useless at this point. Of course Sony is gonna win the poll. They'v got a year on the competition. People aren't hoping Sony fails, they're hoping for better competition between the consoles.

It all comes down to your taste in games. I hate, hate, hate RPGs. They're boring. Sony's plethora of RPGs turns me off. Fighting games aren't my thing, with the exception of wrestling games. Sports games are more dependant on what type of mood I'm in.

I prefer action/adventure games and platformers. I just prefer Nintendo's adventure games because I'm familiar with the characters and the concepts.

Which means I'm a sheep. Oh no, wait, if I was a sheep I'd be ranting about how "Xbox is #1" or "Gamcube roolz!", but I'm probably borderline.

If I could have all the consoles, I would, but I don't and considering I spent more time with my N64 than I did with my playstation, I'm sticking with Nintendo.

It's an easy choice for me, the PS2. Why? Simple: I'm an RPG fan above anything else and neither of the other systems have great RPGs right now. PS2 has in my opinion, the best Final Fantasy since 6 (Final Fantasy X), plus some sleeper RPG hits like Shadow Hearts and Okage: Shadow King, and 2002 is going to be even better with FFXI going online and the game I've been waiting for what seems like an eternity now, Xenosaga: Episode I (DAMN YOU NAMCO FOR NOT BRINGING THE DELUXE BOX HERE!). Not to mention it has access to the PS1's library which has some of the best RPGs ever (Final Fantasy 8, Chrono Cross, and the four best SNES RPGs, Final Fantasy 4, 5, and 6, and Chrono Trigger, on two compliation CDs). So, easy choice for me.

But, I have to admit I've been a Nintendo fan for a while so I did pick up a Gamecube in November. And I've been satisfied with it for the most part. Super Smash Bros. Melee was very good, as was Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, and those two are enough to hold me over till all the awesome games start coming later this year (Wrestelmania X8, Star Fox Adventures, Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime, the new Mario & Zelda, just to name a few).

I haven't picked up an X-Box yet but my neighbor has it so I play it all the time anyway, and I have to say the only game that remotley interests me is DOA3 (since I'm a fighting game fan, but more of a 2D fighting game fan anyway). Halo is overrated, as is Munch.

Controller-wise, I'm most used to the Dual Shock 2 since it's the exact same model as the Duel Shock I've been using on PSOne all this time, but I like the Gamecube's controller best. Just feels the most comftorable. I HATE the X-Box controller, don't care what anyway else says that thing is an oversized piece of crap! I saw pictures of the much smaller Japanese version and I really hope they bring that one overseas because it looks to be about a million times better.

Who comes out on top in the end? Definitley Sony. No one can compete with PS2's library right now. Nintendo will definitley stay profitiable since they have the kid market cornered and they have enough fanboys to keep them afloat till 2010. Microsoft, I'm not sure about. Where I live the Gamecubes are still selling out, often the stores don't have any left in stock or they have very few left, but they also have plenty of X-Boxes. Whether that just means Nintendo isn't shipping enough of them, I'm not sure, but what I do know is that "improved" ports of games that were out on PS2 six months ago isn't going to give Microsoft the win in the console wars. Microsoft needs to get EXCELLENT exclusive titles or at least titles that come out on X-Box first, rather than six months after it already came out on the PS2. Nintendo has the best first-party games and Sony has the best relationship with the third-partiers. What's Microsoft got?

Wow, as if we didn't go through this enough times on the older board..

This is because MS was shipping out 100,000 XBoxes a week to meet up with demand all throughout November, and until late January. As opposed to Nintendo shipping out roughly 40,000 consoles week.

Quite frankly, how you addressed that the XBox doesn't have 3rd party support, thats just plain laughable :P Honestly, there are dozens upon dozens of computer game makers that are currently in the process of making games for the Xbox. So needless to say, theres plenty of 3rd party support.

Im a lifelong Nintendo guy, but when all 3 next gen systems were finally out I took a long time and decided on PS2.

XBOX was out cause ive played it a lot and there were no games that interested me that werent already on PS2. A small deciding factor was that controller. Wasnt a big fan of it in the same vein as the dreamcast controller.

The Cube was eliminated next because no GTA or State Of Emergency, and i needed a second DVD player in my house.

Ill probably end up with Cube eventually for WMX8 and the wife's begging for Super Monkey Ball.

First off, sorry, I didn't come to the older board all that often.

Secondly, you say that there are dozens upon dozens of computer game companies making X-Box games? Who gives a shit about computer game companies? I buy a CONSOLE because I want to play CONSOLE games. And the best CONSOLE game makers are making games for the Playstation 2 first, and the X-Box second. I'm sorry, but I'd much rather play Metal Gear Solid 2 when it first comes out rather than wait for an X-Box version 6 to 8 months later with "improvements", most of them just being secrets from the PS2 version unlocked from the start and the rest being fluff not worth waiting 6 to 8 more months for. The same stands for most of the other PS2-to-XBox ports. Great, Tony Hawk 3 looks a bit better on X-Box, but it's fine on PS2 and I got to play that game back in 2001 on my PS2.

LMFAO!

Good one.. Really.. [sarcasm] Afterall, we know that computers and consoles are wolrds apart [/sarcasm] We all know that such developers like Accalaim, Blizzard, Sierra, id, THQ, and Activision have NEVER made games that have gone from consoles to PC's and vice versa...

The reason why there are games from the PS2 being shipped to the other systems is because they aren't exclusive titles. There was no reason for Sony to make them exclusive since there was no competiton when they were made. This means that MS and Nintendo can go and port whatever game from the PS2 that they want, and why shouldn't they? So you can go and continue saying that the PS2 is the best because of its larger library? The only reason it is that way is because of the fact that it's been out for what? 15, 16 months longer than both the GC and XBox?

I pick Gamecube, for now.  I plan on getting PS2 once my tax return comes in.  All I have is GC for now, and I'm satisfied with it.  The exclusive stuff on the way is just too good to pass up.  PS2 is also good for me cause I lack the DVD in my house, and the stuff like GTA 3 and EA's NHL and NBA series that arent on GC are stuff I would like to have.

My friend has XBox, and it dont do shit for me.  We turned it off after 5 minutes to play NBA Street on GC.  We havent went back to it.  I looked at the games list for XBox and 80% of the stuff there looked rather dull to me.  Nothing against the system itself, but I think it needs better exclusive stuff to warrant the price, IMO.  Halo does nothing for me, and I too think its overrated.  I'm gonna wait for Perfect Dark Zero.

And nothing against Bruin, but I think he took that computer/console comment a little too harsh.  I agree with the other person in a way.  For me, and a lot of others, the only PC games worth playing are the SimGolf style games and card games and stuff like that.  The actual console-like software for PC dont appeal to the console crowd and thats the type of stuff thats headed to the XBox.  And the good stuff on XBox now is out for other systems anyway.

But I'm not gonna sit back and say "Microsoft sucks I aint buying their crap its sucks blahblah" cause I will be screwing myself down the line.  If they can put out a few real showstopper games then I'll have no problem buying it, then having all 3 systems.  Cant hurt right?  People who buy a certain system and refuse to buy another (not out of money but out of "fanboyism"....as I understand people cant afford all 3) are only screwing themselves by limiting their tastes by sticking to just 1 and thats it.  You might come across a game that you cant put down but you dont wanna admit it.  I know plenty of people like that.

Side note: Fark.com had a good console discussion yesterday.  The thread is dead, but some of you might be interested in the remarks.  I was.

About the PC comment you just made kat, it all depends on what style of games you like. I happen to like FPS games, RPG's and the occasional Strategy. IMO there hasn't been any kind of sports game on the PC thats rivaled its console counterpart. The thing is, you can't say that consoles and computers are these incredibly different things when they aren't. All consoles are made from components that are all ready in your PC. Trying to argue saying something that "I hate PCz!!! Consolez R00l!!" (I've seen a lot of people like this) is just plain stupid.

Now the three consoles basically depend on what you perfer to play. I personally don't like how it seems that Nintendo is just going to rehash all of its old games and not really come out with anything new until those are out. (I'm sorry, but if I want to play anymore Mario, Sonic, or Resident Evil I'll go and play them on my older consoles.) The PS2 seems to be more geared towards the RPG type of gaming at the moment. All my favorite RPG's are on my computer, theres nothing I want from there. I chose my XBox because it plain just had the games I liked. Halo is a blast to play, and nobody is going to convince me otherwise. NFL Fever 2002 is a lot of fun to play in Dynasty mode.

Try to tell me that everything on the XBox is on the other big 3 just because it's been ported over. Read what I said before to Shadow. Lemme copy and paste incase you don't want to :D

Putting my word into a dead argument... my room mate has all 3 systems in question and frankly... the GameCube has about 20 layers of dust on it that probably won't get cleaned off the rest of the school year.  I won't touch it as long as it has "Super Monkey Ball" attatched to it.  The X-box gets moderate play from the 4 of us with RAW.  Frankly, once you get used to the controls and gameplay, it's an extremely fun game.  I've also played Gotham Racing recently... fun game.  Halo is a fun game... I don't see how most people consider it overrated... boring maybe, but again... something you have to get used to.

PS2 gets the most use from all of us.  GTA3 is mostly the only game we play, and although all the missions have been finished (minus a few phone booth ones) just driving around for the helluvit is a blast... especially on a good buzz.  Once in a while, Tricky will get thrown in or Twisted Metal... but in anycase, PS2 is the winner in my suite/dorm.  With X-box on the rise and GameCube *snicker* collecting dust.

I didnt say that.  I said "And the good stuff on XBox now is out for other systems anyway."

Note the "good stuff" part.  Its just a matter of opinion, like you said.  Nothing on the PC nor the XBox appeals to me.  And I meant everything on the XBox *that interests me* is on other systems.  Thats what I meant.

It all comes down to the library.  I really don't care much for the technology of a system.  If better games were still being made for the SNES than the X-Box, that would be my system of choice.  That said I will choose the system that has the most games that I like, and what I consider the best lineup to come.  That system would be the Playstation 2.

I have an Xbox...What sold it for me was the Hard Drive, Music Feature & DVD capability.

I hated memory cards. I'd max them out very quickly.

The music feature is just boss. I love the fact that I can drive to Anthrax or Slayer or Cradle of Filth while playing Project Gotham Racing.

And I've never had a DVD player before, so therefore the Xbox was a must buy for me.

The games kick ass too. I've got Halo, DOA3, Max Payne, and Tony Hawk 2x. Now, while Tony Hawk might be old, I've never really owned the games on any other system, so it was also a must buy; and comparing the graphics to the other platforms, its never looked better on Xbox.

People say to me  "PS2 has Final Fantasy & Metal Gear Solid, you should've gotten a PS2" all the time. The fact is that Final Fantasy has never interested me, neither has the Metal Gear franchise (aside from the NES Version). Another must own was GTA3, but its being ported to Xbox soon.

PS2 has its qualities, but for me, its XBOX.

In the hopes of killing the wannabe thread, I'll reply to Pinnacle here:

Pinnacle said:

<<The thread that you speak of is nowhere to be found right now. Perhaps it was on he old server, but I don't see it here. I was hoping that you guys would talk this topic up because I am contemplating buying either an X-Box or Gamecube and there is already a PS2 in mmy house. I played NBA Courtside at Best BUy and wanted to play it some more, but I have yet to play an X-Box game. >>

Between those two, the two main factors are the types of games that you like and your budget.  Neither of those systems clearly has a better library (as opposed to comparing either of them with PS2), so it comes down to what you want.

X-Box is going to have more games, and is probably going to have more third party support.  It's a no brainer if you like PC games and want to play ports of PC games on a console.  It's also probably better if you don't have any strong developer or genre preferences and are just looking for a system that is going to have a fair amount of solid games to play.  It may not end up having as many true classics as NGC in the end, but it is more certain to have a little something for everyone.  It has more games out now than NGC, and I'd say that it's overall lineup right now is well above NGC's, even if there's only one killer game (Halo).

NGC is the system for you if you want Nintendo games, that's basically the story.  Some people really love Nintendo or Rare games, and they are obviously all going to be exclusive to NGC.  For some, that's enough right there to make it worth buying.  NGC is more certain to have true classics than X-Box, as Miyamoto's track record speaks for itself, and I'd be stunned if both the new Mario and the new Zelda weren't incredible games.  The drawback to the GameCube is that besides Nintendo stuff, it's going to be worse than the other systems.  It's not N64 level bad in terms of third party abandonment by any means, but it doesn't have very many interesting exclusives.

The other issue is price.  GameCube costs $100 less.  It also is less powerful (for what that's worth, absolutely nothing to me), and doesn't play DVDs or have a hard drive (which is worth considerably more to me), so in a sense you get what you pay for.  Overall, if I had unlimited money, I'd probably buy an X-Box first, but if you're a big Nintendo fan, NGC is obviously the better choice.

Gamecube is kiddy crap. PS2 and X-Box rock. Shigeru Miyamoto might as well retire because he sucks and he's too old.
