Blacks Rally for Slave Reparations

 

Bullshit. And where are they going to get the land hmmm? Give them national parks? Take away land from white people who have paid for the land or had it in there family for generations? And what about this money? To get the money black people will have a an increase in their taxes as well so they don't gain any there. They don't deserve anything. You don't see anyone who was enslaved by the Romans walking up to the Italian Prime Minister and saying we want Sicily because you enslaved us. Just more shit to stir the pot.

Preach it brother Rant! This slave reparations stuff goes beyond the realms of stupid. Was slavery wrong? Yes indeed, but should we as a country STILL be aplogoizing for it? If there were a living slave and if there were a living slave owner with a direct link to each other, then yes, reparations would be in order. But there are no living slaves or slave holders!

 

And what if every white person in America was forced to write a check for these reparations? Does anyone think for a minute that any $ amount will be acceptable? You'll hear cries of "$3,000? That's hardly enough for all the pain and suffering my people went through blah blah blah." And thus the debate gets even MORE heated and the racial tension will get WORSE than ever because non-blacks who have been tolerant their whole life (like myself) will become increasingly disgusted with all the rhetoric and, of course, develop prejudice.

Argh! I guess in the eyes of Louis Farrakhan and the rest of the reparations movement that every white person in America is a decendent of a slave owner. Yet my very white father's side of the family came from Canada and before that Norway. Sure doesn't sound like the description of a pre-Civil War southern slave owner to me. So in a way, Farrakhan is prejudging my white heritage. And we all know that prejudge is the root word for prejudice. Interesting eh?

The whole "debate" strikes me as vaguely amusing. I know a girl who's half-black, half-white (and amazingly gorgeous, but unfortunately very straight and very married. Erm. Anyway). On her father's side, she's unquestionably a descendant of slaves. On her mother's side, she's unquestionably a descendant of slave-owners. Would she pay these "reparations" or receive them?

 

Besides, what about the Civil War? Something like 300,000 white men died in the process of abolishing slavery. Are all those corpses (not to mention 30,000 amputated limbs) meaningless? Or are they just inconvenient to acknowledge?

 

And what about the fact that blacks rounded up their own people in Africa to sell to the white slavers? Those guys certainly profited from slavery - profited directly, deliberately, and systematically. Why aren't there any calls for modern African countries to pay part of these reparations? They get a free pass because of the colour of their skin? Or because they're horrifically poor?

 

Wait, what was that again? They're horrifically poor? Yeah, they are, aren't they? Blacks in the United States have the highest standard of living of blacks anywhere in the world. Would you guys rather have stayed in Africa? Listen up, Mr Farrakhan: slavery didn't make the entire African continent one gigantic hell of human misery. If ANYONE deserves to be given some land (and I don't think anyone really does), it's the descendents of the Native Americans from whom it was stolen in the first place. I'm also against the whole idea of slave reparations. I know that if that certain people get their way, the slave reparation money they would get would partially come out of my wallet via taxes, which is complete crap since I'm an Asian whose lineage in America doesn't even start until the late 1960's. The whole slavery argument doesn't touch me.

 

I have two black uncles through marriage and half-black cousins as a result. They're both living at a much higher standard of living than I am at the moment. Sure it'd be nice for them to get some money through slave reparations since they are family and all, but wouldn't that be a bit ill-gotten and undeserving?

 

At this point, the ill-effects of slavery in America has been erased except for history books and those who refuse to let it go.

Why would anyone want to line in any country in Africa? The whole continent is dissaray. The only country that might have been hospitable was South Africa, but that place has gone down the crapper ever since the Dutch were phased out. South Africa is now the rape, child rape, and car theft capital of the world.

 

Other than the U.S, (or if you're liberal Australia and Canada) can anyone think of a better country to live in for an english speaking person? That goes for white, black, brown, or whataver color mix you may be.

-well,it seems what happened on Sept.11 wasnt bad at all because the passangers had comfortable seats, but the slaves on the slave ships didnt.

 

-the holocaust in Europe was no big deal either apparently, since only 6 million died.But 150 million died due to slavery.

One half of my family came directly from Great Britain and Scotland, where they were members of the WORKING CLASS (meaning their descendants were pretty poor, as were they), and the other half came from Ireland, Italy, Portugal, and Canada. Even that is wrong in my eyes. Giving a race of people special advantages, privelages or handouts just because they're of a certain race is wrong. In this case, Native Canadians have an advantage when it comes to college JUST because of their race.
