Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted August 18, 2002 Ok, the other day I rented the Cube DVD. It was good, I liked it, but the ending was...nothing. I mean, *spoilers* The handicapped buy just walked out and THAT WAS IT! I'm not saying it should've answered everything, I liked that they didn't say why it was built, and especially how they didn't say how many other people where in it. (Judging by the enterance of Kazzan and the opening sequence, there could've been any number of people that they didn't find) *end of spoilers* Anyways... I'd recomend it. Not to everybody I know, but to a few people.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted August 19, 2002 Basically, a lot of people took the ending as some kind of metaphor for the guy going to heaven. Personally I found the ending and the whole movie to be a bit half baked, if not half assed.
Guest Vyce Report post Posted August 19, 2002 All I know is this - Nicole de Boer does it for me. I find her adorable. So any film which has her running around in cute little boxers for most of the runtime is okay in my book.
Guest kane3212321 Report post Posted August 19, 2002 I saw this the other week, I thought it had a great concept but some of the worst acting/dialogue possible. The ending had me wanting to throw things at the TV, I still can't work out how it's possible the psycho guy followed them with the cubes moving.
Guest C.H.U.D. Report post Posted August 19, 2002 It has one of the worst endings ever. Either the director was trying to be artsy and have us figure out what happened on our own, or he ran out of money.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted August 19, 2002 I just didn't like the idea of an idiot savant character at all. Even though I can't really think of any other examples off the top of my head, it seems like such a clicheed character. I really wanted to like Cube, and if they ever actually release Cube 2: Hypercube (IMDb says it's coming out in 2002, and I saw a trailer for it, though I can't remember which tape I rented that had it), I'll probably check it out, but... it was a great concept, and had some awesome sets and deaths, but on the whole it was just amazingly uncompelling. Guest Ravenbomb Report post Posted August 20, 2002 funny you should mention the sets... it was all one cube-room, just lit with a different coloured light...or so I've heard and wasn't Dustin Hoffman from Rain Man an idiot savant?
Guest kane3212321 Report post Posted August 20, 2002 Yeah he was, I watched Rain Man the day b4 Cube actually
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted August 20, 2002 funny you should mention the sets... it was all one cube-room, just lit with a different coloured light...or so I've heard Yea, it was. That was an awesome job by them disguising their low budget like that. It works well.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted August 20, 2002 It didn't disguise it from me at all, I realized exactly what they were doing as soon as I saw the second or third identical room.

Guest J*ingus Report post Posted August 20, 2002 No, I've just got plenty of experience in shooting video and the real life sets and "onscreen environments" rarely look alike.
Guest evenflowDDT Report post Posted August 20, 2002 No, I've just got plenty of experience in shooting video and the real life sets and "onscreen environments" rarely look alike. Ahh... OK. Yea, the only videos I've shot (well, I wasn't shooting, but that I've been involved in) have been in my neighborhood/house and with a camcorder, so in my case the real life sets and "onscreen environments" looked exactly alike
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted August 20, 2002 I've got a book on acting somewhere that has a picture of Goldie Hawn as she appeared in a movie, just standing around and filing her nails... and then outside that little square, they drew in all the tech crap: the camera, lights, boom mike, wires, people running around, the edges of the studio set, so forth and so on. I think I learned more from that one picture than from a book's worth of talking.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted August 21, 2002 I sort of though each character represented a different look on religion. The cube representing consequences of different actions, and in the end, the guy who didn't do anyone wrong made it.
Guest converge241 Report post Posted August 21, 2002 i wish we still had the old cube thread(s). there was 2 already. im a big proponent of the theory that it was a test to get into heaven and the others got reincarnated. I cant wait until "Hypercube" the sequel
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted August 21, 2002 I still say that one didn't make sense, though. The ones that got offed, except for the Evil Pedophile Rapist Black Dude, they didn't actually do anything wrong. Especially that guy at the beginning, he just walked into the other room, and then WHAM!
Guest Lethargic Report post Posted August 21, 2002 Cube is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's fantastic simply due to the fact that you're having this conversation. It's not some cookie cutter mindless bullshit. It's a movie that leaves you saying WTF? There's a million theories about what the Cube is. And any movie that forces people to come up with theories to try to explain to themselves what they just watched is awesome.
Guest J*ingus Report post Posted August 22, 2002 But the problem was: I didn't come up with any theories, or even try to. I just didn't buy it. I didn't find it believable at all. (Lukewarm acting, hackneyed characters, and atrocious dialogue might've helped out a bit in that department.)
Guest converge241 Report post Posted August 22, 2002 i could see your point Jingus..i love it but would never defend it as a "great movie" "I didn't come up with any theories, or even try to. " that line made me crack up
