Guest Some Guy Report post Posted August 19, 2002 I just went to Montreal for the weekend and attended an Expos game. The highlight was getting 3rd row seats behind homeplate for $36 Canaidian (about $22 US). The lowlights: -The stadium was virtually empty on a Sunday afternoon. -The park ressembles the old Boston Garden more than a real Baseball stadium. -Way too many French people. -The people at the game had no concept of stadium courtesy, like don;t get up and stand in front of people during an inning and wait until the half inning is over before going back to your seat. The probable reason for this is directly above. -Domed stadiums suck and so does Astro turf. I did enjoy it though, it wasn't crowded or expensive like Fenway is, but it's basically AAA up there anyway.

Guest gthureson Report post Posted August 20, 2002 -The park ressembles the old Boston Garden more than a real Baseball stadium. That'd be because it was built with very little foresight in mind. The only thing its really designed to host is track and field. It truly sucks for anything besides that, but because the Quebec government and the city of Montreal have so much money sunk into the Stadium (and the '76 Olympics, which they are probably still paying off), another stadium will never get built. Guest Mad the Swine Report post Posted August 20, 2002 The kicker is that Olympic was built to have a retractable roof. Thirteen years before its time (Skydome) in thinking, 50 years behind in its execution. Park Jarry, IMO, was a better park. It only held about 25,000, but these days, 25,000 is a miracle. But the stadium had a nice appearance and an intimacy found in minor league stadiums (perhaps because Jarry was previously a recreation department field). Plus, it featured the first "splash" shots. You could land a ball in the pool.
Guest treble charged Report post Posted August 20, 2002 Olympic Stadium really isn't that bad of a place. The whole 'dome' thing, in my opinion, is only the really bad thing that it has going for it. I went to a game there in '98, when they had the roof off for the better portion of the season, and that enhanced the enjoyment value ten fold. Also, fill that place like it was during last year's Grey Cup, and it is an AWESOME atmosphere. The low roof raises the volume level and makes it a fun place to watch a game. And SG, what's with you and French people? It's the language they speak in Quebec. If you went to France, would you complain if they spoke too much French there? Guest Kotzenjunge Report post Posted August 20, 2002 Wasn't the roof glass before? I remember when they made it an opaque roof it dropped on my list of favorite stadiums. So sue me, I was seven years old when I heard about it, and thought it was neat to have a glass roof. Fo sheez, Kotzenjunge
Guest TJH Report post Posted August 20, 2002 In fact, they ARE still paying for the '76 Olympics. I shit you not.

No it doesn't suprise me, just annoys me. >The people at the game had no concept of stadium courtesy, like don;t get up and stand in front of people during an inning and wait until the half inning is over before going back to your seat. The probable reason for this is directly above. No vendors? I saw a few but unless you constantly watch the walkways you'd never know they were there. They don't yell like they do at most parks, it's more like a muffled, "Ice Cream, (French word for Ice Cream)" rather than belting out "ICE CREAM! GET YOUR ICE CREAM HERE!" TC I answered your question about the French at VM.

Guest redbaron51 Report post Posted August 20, 2002 i really don't like dome stadiums for baseball and football, to me the Big O and Skydome are concrete bunkers

Guest treble charged Report post Posted August 21, 2002 I heard on the radio, one guy sat on a seat in Olympic Stadium and it fell apart. At one game I went to there, I think it was during the Summer of 2000 for a game against the Reds, some guy's seat was only a metal pole, as the chair portion had fallen off. No big deal, though, as there were plenty of seats to go around. I think there were 14,000 people there that afternoon (Sunday), plus they had the added attraction of Ken Griffey Jr., who's star was much bigger then than it is 2 years later. The highlight was getting 3rd row seats behind homeplate for $36 Canaidian (about $22 US). You did the dumb move. You could have bought General Admission tickets and move to better seats during the game... The lowlights: -The stadium was virtually empty on a Sunday afternoon. Who was playing?? Was there a promotion? -The park ressembles the old Boston Garden more than a real Baseball stadium. no comment -Way too many French people. What do you expect from the Province of Quebec?? 99% english and the 1% left of french canadians crammed up north?? Geez... lighten up man... -The people at the game had no concept of stadium courtesy, like don;t get up and stand in front of people during an inning and wait until the half inning is over before going back to your seat. And for YOUR reason, t'ikras te faire enculer par 3-4 chèvres, t'as l'air d'aimer ça. -Domed stadiums suck and so does Astro turf. They do suck I did enjoy it though, it wasn't crowded or expensive like Fenway is, but it's basically AAA up there anyway. Except for Vlad and Vidro, it is AAA level. Guest OctoberBlood Report post Posted August 29, 2002 I wen't to a Expos/Braves game a few years ago, and it was clearly pathetic. It was totally empty, and just had a bad feeling all around the stadium. Sad thing was, I saw more Braves fans than Expos fans.

Guest Phr33k Report post Posted September 3, 2002 Do you really expect Montrealers to turn out and see the frickin' SAN DIEGO PADRES??? Quebecers are assholes. I lived there, I know. He told you to go have anal sex with 3-4 goats, because it seems that you enjoy it. The Expos aren't playing in a new stadium because of one thing. Fill in the blanks: J_ _ F _ E Y L _ _ I A Figure it out. By the way, the Expos' attendance isn't that bad anymore, around 10 000 per game, and considering what some other teams are playing in front of... that ain't bad. It costs $250 to sit in the same seats at Fenway, If I lived in a city where the games were that cheap I would go all the time, but I can't afford to go to Fenway more than 2-3 times a season. 2) I agree 3) Very creative. How do you say "We've been invaded, where's the white flag?" in French?
