Guest Badd Company Report post Posted February 23, 2002 From the Hoss Report: "Bull Buchanan has improved greatly and will no doubt be a part of the distribution of talent sometime after WrestleMania. Bull's Cape Fear-like presentation is uncomfortable and effective." One of the most acclaimed gimmicks of the mid-nineties returns.....but is Bull Buchanan in the same league as Spivey? Guest Rose of Pain Report post Posted February 23, 2002 I'm sorry but Lives are going to fade in Bull Buchanan's Hands just don't have the same ring to it.
Guest DrEvil Report post Posted February 23, 2002 For those that remember the way Dan Spivey played Waylon Mercy, there's no way anyone can compare to it. Spivey played the character to perfection. But give Buchanan a chance and don't compare his new character to Waylon. I'd love to see him in some kind of boiler room brawl and say in his southern drawl "Come out come out wherever you are". Buchanan has decent movement in the ring for a man his size, give it time to see if he can make this work.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted February 23, 2002 I'd love to see him in some kind of boiler room brawl and say in his southern drawl "Come out come out wherever you are". OK, that would scare the shit out of me.
Guest Tony149 Report post Posted February 23, 2002 It would be interesting to see how Bull would play the character on TV. He can move for a big man.

Guest AM The Kid Report post Posted February 23, 2002 I'd like to see that character with Bull Buchanan. He has the physical look and size to pull it off.
Guest THE SHOCKMASTER Report post Posted February 23, 2002 or maybe pop out of a room and say "Peek-A-Boo."
Guest Downhome Report post Posted February 23, 2002 You mean I'm not the ONLY person who marked out for Waylon Mercy?
Guest THE SHOCKMASTER Report post Posted February 23, 2002 Everyone marked out for Waylon.
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted February 23, 2002 Downhome not even close. Waylon Mercy was godly. I thought Bull was pretty decent in the ring, but his biggest claim to fame was being buddies with the Bossman so people had no reason to care about him. If he has a good character now, I'm eager to see what he's got.
Guest BernieLicious Report post Posted February 23, 2002 I marked out for him except when he was jobbing to f'in Savio Vega at a In Your House PPV.
Guest The98thRedBalloon Report post Posted February 23, 2002 Does anyone know how I might go about contacting Dan Spivey, by the way? I've been trying to for a while.
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted February 23, 2002 I can't find the URL but he does have a web site. He's been working as a model
Guest Report post Posted February 24, 2002 Waylon Mercy was one of the greatest characters ever; sheer brilliance by the front office in a time of bad business and lack of creativity. Dan Spivey unfortunately was too banged-up to continue with the character. He is indeed working as a model these days. I think he oughta try get more into acting, cuz he's surely better than Goldberg et al. "I think we're alone now..." Haha!
Guest The Electrifyer Report post Posted February 24, 2002 A model!? Are you serious? That guy was freaky looking, how did he become a model??? As for Bull being a new Waylon Mercy type character, I just wont believe it until it happens.
Guest nWo Hollywood Report post Posted February 24, 2002 Can someone tell me more about him? I've watched wrestling since '93, the name sounds familiar, but I just can't think of what he looked like.
Guest The Electrifyer Report post Posted February 24, 2002 Waylon Mercy dressed all in white when he wrestled. He had a lot off tattoos on him too, one was a small dagger in between his eyes I believe. Before a match, he would act very sincere and nice to the opponent, then he'd just snap in the middle of the match and viscously maule his opponent. He looked like a nice guy normally, but then he'd turn into a viscous freak in a second. Thats all I can remember of him though.
Guest Downhome Report post Posted February 24, 2002 Does anyone know how I might go about contacting Dan Spivey, by the way? I've been trying to for a while. His website used to be, obviously, www.danspivey.com but it seems to have been taken down now.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 24, 2002 Waylon Mercy was so cool, Wasn't they working towards a Hart/Mercy angle?
Guest me Report post Posted February 24, 2002 Waylon Mercy dressed all in white when he wrestled. Close. White pants, Hawaiian shirt. And remember at the start of the Invasion when Bull was wearing a Hawaiian shirt? Yep...Bull Buchanan=The New Waylon Mercy. He needs some really cool music though. Guest Boring_Liferik Report post Posted February 24, 2002 Hey my first post on the wrasslin board. Neat. Anyways, i think that would work out nicely sense Bull looks like some kind of giant inbred stalker. Needs a few more moves though, the scissor kick and top rope leg drop alone ain't gonna cut it. Give him the Burning Hammer. Granted, he'd have to wrestle RVD every week to use it, but still, it'd be funny.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 24, 2002 No it won't...the purpose of the gimmick was to horrify us...and shock us to the bone...Ah, fuck it...it's a 6'8 Bald stalker in a hawaiian shirt...How can't we laugh...How much longer is the wait? Then again...we all though Gay Sanders would happen but it went nowhere...
Guest me Report post Posted February 24, 2002 Bull has hair now. And he's closer to 7' than 6'8". The purpose of the costume was that the white pants were from the uniform he wore at the mental santarium, and the Hawaiian shirt was thrown over it to be more inconspicuous. So... a schizophrenic escaped mental patient with a Southern accent and preferably some creepy music...it could get over second time around.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted February 24, 2002 No creepy music...It needs Happy music....Remember he was a Happy, innocant guy...Have happy clown music for his enterance and creepy music for his exit.
Guest Army Eye Report post Posted February 24, 2002 Can someone tell me more about him? I've watched wrestling since '93, the name sounds familiar, but I just can't think of what he looked like. If you've seen Cape Fear (the remake) .. Waylon Mercy was loosely based on Deniro's character in that movie man.. can't find any good picks of Waylon Mercy
Guest me Report post Posted February 24, 2002 maybe it could be creepy in its happiness, like "Way Down Upon the Swanee River."
Guest Report post Posted February 24, 2002 Nuh-uh. Waylon Mercy only wore the Hawaiian shirt outside the ring. When he got into the ring to wrestle, it was just the white pants and white tank top. Hence all-white is accurate. His music was mostly piano, like happy Southern music. I don't know what music Buchanan ought to have. They'll probly just give him a translation of the Cape Fear theme tune. Which intstrumentally isn't that far from Mr Perfect's, just darker. His tats were all fake (like Underfaker Brian Harris's tats), but went with the Robert DeNiro character from Cape Fear (parodied brilliantly in The Simpsons episode Cape Feare with Sideshow Bob). Dan Spivey has blond hair usually. The dyed black hair for Waylon Mercy made him look creepier and accentuated his piercing eyes, so it worked a charm. But these days he makes a model pretty well. Heck, I wish him all the best. He worked his ass off back in the day. In Japan too. But just got too banged-up. "You ain't got no right to judge me, counsellor. Only Gawd has that right." Guest oldschoolhero Report post Posted February 24, 2002 Bull could set up a chair in front of the TitanTron and smoke large cigars all through the show, obscuring the screen in a cloud of smoke. Then he could continually laugh loudly until someone told him to stop. THEN he'd snap. In all seriousness, this gimmick could rock. Especially if they take advantage of Bull's supposed hypnotised state when part of the RTC. They could say that once he was free of Stevie's control his mind couldn't cope with it and he snapped.
