Paul goes on to talk about the same facts relating to Hollywood Hulk Hogan. Fans boo him, but Paul says nobody can do anything about it and talks about Hogan's career being over and that the same thing will happen to The Rock at SummerSlam. Paul says Brock has a gift for the fan, by the end of night that Brock and The Rock will collide tonight. Brock gets the mic and tells Paul he feels the same way he did when he took out Hogan and that he's gonna make The Rock cry like a little BI*CH!!!. The Rock's music hits and he comes out with a passion. Rock talks all about Bringing It! and that Brock has brought Nothing!. Rock says tonight will be like no other and repeats it again. Rock says no more brining it or shuves ups candyasses and declares that since Brock isn't gonna bring it, that The Rock is gonna Bring It to Him!!!. The Rock declares that the night is already through and comes to the ring ready to kick ass but Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit come down and attack The Rock like scavengers. Benoit locks in the Crippler Crossface on The Rock and Rock and Brock exchange eye contact during the whole thing. Paul and Brock laugh during the whole thing. *Fade Out* The Rock is getting checked by refs on the ramp but refuses their help and eventually gets to his feet...meanwhile...Brock and Paul are in the ring enjoying every second of it. The Rock is assisted back to the backstage area by the two refs. Paul and Brock then mock the fans and leaves. Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit sneak attack Edge as he was arriving at the building. The fight was broken up by refs. Hurricane & Shannon Moore vs. Tajiri & Jamie Noble -Excellent tag action for the opening match for SmackDown!. Helms hits the Eye of the Hurricane on Noble and give Tajiri the Hurri-Choke Slam. Moore reverses a powerbomb attempts by Noble and converts it into a sunsetflip to get the 1-2-3. A moment later, Edge goes to Steph and suggests a tag match between Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit against himself and The Rock. Steph agrees and Edge walks off. Before the match, Matt is talking with an unmasked Hurricane and Shannon Moore and says the pop he got last week was good but it was doubled tonight. He bet them that it'll go louder if he goes out again. Matt indeed goes out again to a decent pop and kinda sucks up to his fellow Fayetteville crowd. Chavo Guerrero comes out and challenges him to a match and walks down to the ring. Matt accepts and it's on. Matt Hardy vs. Chavo Guerrero -Matt and Chavo exchange opening blows. Chavo gets the advantage with a side headlock. Chavo locks in a modified abdominadle stretch but Matt powers out of it. Matt connects with a backbody drop for a 2 count. After it ended, Chavo rollsup Matt to get the 1-2-3. After the match, Matt really protested that the match should've ended if there is an explosion but the ref said his shoulders we're down. Matt then accuses the ref of doing a screwjob on him in Fayettville much like the Bret Hart screwjob. Winner by Pin - Chavo Guerrero Backstage, Funaki tells everybody to stay tuned because he tells us we we're all going where no man has gone before. The Womens Locker Room! Nidia told Funaki to stay and told Molly as to why. Molly didn't like what Nidia likes to do but Nidia says she's open and doesn't mind showing what she has. Nidia and Molly will meet tonight for the Women's title and if Nidia wins, she will show the crowd what they want. Rey Mysterio appears and Michael Cole talks to him about SummerSlam, eventually Kurt Angle gets in Rey's face and warned him not to get involved with his match tonight with Billy Kidman. Or else he'd break Rey's ankle. The ref delayed and Kidman only got a 2 count. Angle hits the Olympic Slam and then Rey appears and flys off the top and connects with Angle's chest. Rey flees and Angle persues but this time, Angle doesn't return to the ring in time and gets counted out. After the match, Angle argues and then takes it out on Kidman with a fury. Winner by Countout - Billy Kidman Rikishi & John Cena vs. D-Von & Batista -Batista and D-Von we're on shaky terms to say the least considering what happened last week. Batista hardly acknowledged D-Von at all. D-Von starts the match and gets the upper end on Cena. Batisita is tagged in and goes at it with Rikishi but Rikishi fires back with a belly-to-belly. Cena is tagged back in and trys to match strength with Batista but fails. Nidia slingshots Molly to the corner and gets another 2 count. Nidia kicks Molly in the gut and DDT's here but only 2 count. Nidia hoists Molly on the ropes but Molly battles back and knocks off Noble. Molly hits the Molly-Go-Round on Nidia to get the 1-2-3. After the match, Noble encourages Nidia to still give the fans what they wanted and that was to flash the crowd. But as Nidia was taking off her shirt, she then gets knocked down by Noble who got hit by the women's title belt from Molly. Winner by Pin - Molly Holly Eddie Guerrero & Chris Benoit vs. Edge & The Rock -Edge wastes no time coming right down with Authority. Edge clotheslines down Eddie but eventually gets double-teamed and then The Rock's music hits and The Rock himself makes his presence known and cleans house. Edge leaves on his music and knodded satisfaction for his performance tonight. He and The Rock exchange smiles and respect for one another and Edge leaves. Rock gets the mic and says he don't feel like leaving Fayetteville. Rock does a "Finally, The Rock has come back to Fayetteville"!!. The Rock picks a fan to do a "If Ya Smellelelala, what The Rock is Cookin'". He chooses an 8 year old boy named Mitchell. The Rock asks Mitchell if he likes Pie. Rock assures the crowd that he's talking about Apple pie!. Mitchell says he's never had pie. Rock then looks at the camera in disbelief and raises his eyebrow twice which looked hilarious!. Rock told Mitchell that that was good and the pie would get his (Mitchell's) but in trouble every single time!. Rock notices that Tazz wanted to give Mitchell his glasses, Rock takes the glasses and then asks for a Mitchell chant at the count of 3. 1, 2, 3, (Crowd chanting Mitchell). Rock gives Mitchell Tazz's glasses and Rock said he looked Cool!. Rock says that we're all gonna smell what Mitchell is cookin'. Rock tells Mitchell to say it. Mitchell finally says.."If Ya Smellelalala What The Rock Is Cookin'!" Way To Go Mitchell!!. Rock was enthusiastic and proud of him for it!. Rock shoke little Mitchell's hand and gave him his left elbow pad as a souvenier. Mitchell's mother was so proud of her kid. Rock stanced the ropes and shrugs over the Undisputed title belt in triumph. After that, Rock came over to Mitchell's mother and shook her hand and hugged her. Rock then shooke Mitchell's brother or friend's hand and another fan who was probably Mitchell's father. The Rock then leave. Good show! A step up from Raw looks like. And Cena and Kishi vs. Bautista and D-Von? YAAAAY! For those that hate them all, you can skip that one match. No Henry in sight unless he's on Velocity. Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted August 21, 2002 I really wanna see the main event for SD! now... On a sidenote, looks like we'll have to put up with AS's usual bitching about the spear. Sigh... Oh well, if not the spear, then something else. I can't really tell from this how good/bad the matches will be, but I pretty much know what to expect from those involved. And Steph skits seem to be missing...and FUNAKI GETS TV TIME!
Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2002 Wait.. WAY TO BUILD UP THE TITLE MATCH! Shitheads.. let's have the challenger get punked out AGAIN that will make people want to buy the PPV. this could be the worst Summerslam in terms of buyrate EVER. That includes Summerslam 96, which got 0.
Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted August 21, 2002 How does a spear beat anyone? Honestly? I don't know, but what I don't get is why AS bitches about the spear whenever Edge usues it, yet never uttered a peep about Rhyno who uses it for his damn finish. But hey, at least a spear looks painful unlike an elbow, a legdrop, or a lame chop(the Worm).

Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted August 21, 2002 How does a spear beat anyone? Honestly? Eddy's jobbed to a spear and an elbow this month. Point well made. It was fine as a set up move, and his DDT was fine as a finish...why he is busting out Spears like stunners I dunno. I guess it beats a leg drop, though. Guest Austin3164life Report post Posted August 21, 2002 this could be the worst Summerslam in terms of buyrate EVER. That includes Summerslam 96, which got 0.58 Yeah, and in 96 there was that great Vader/HBK Main Event which was Shawn Michael's test to see if he can beat a man much larger than him. Rob E Dangerously 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2002 Rhyno gets a pass on the Spear because it would HURT if Rhyno did that to you. Much more than if Edge did. Hey, if 5 months of being made to look like an unstoppable monster can't get Brock over, one night won't. Unstoppable monster, name ONE wrestler Brock beat without some help or distraction from Heyman. ONE. Then ponder why Brock isn't getting a reaction. Stupid WWE bookers. Probably would have helped if they had actually made him look unstoppable, as not selling for the Hardys, RVD, or Buh-Buh Ray, but they didn't so he doesn't. Guest AlwaysPissedOff Report post Posted August 21, 2002 Rhyno gets a pass on the Spear because it would HURT if Rhyno did that to you. Much more than if Edge did. Bah, that's more due to Rhyno being shorter and pudgy. If he wasn't a midget, then maybe he would actually LOOK threatening.
Guest Austin3164life Report post Posted August 21, 2002 Yeah, but Rhyno has that stocky and thick physique, where it looks like he'll kill you if he Gores you. Edge has a lean and somewhat skinny physique, and he does the spear pretty softly, so that's why the Spear usually doesn't work for just any guy.

Er...why would one care about what buyrate it does if we're not the WWE? Like the man says, it's the matches that count. And if you buy a PPV for one match, you either got money to throw around or are just lousy at managing money. I'm getting SumSlam because of the many matches I do want to see. Brock/Rock ain't one of 'em.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Report post Posted August 21, 2002 Im trying to figure out why they teamed Batista and DVon up after what happened last week. Wouldn't it be kinda obvious that Batista would leave or screw DVon?
Guest Mulatto Heat Report post Posted August 21, 2002 How does a spear beat anyone? Honestly? Eddy's jobbed to a spear and an elbow this month. You know, despite all, this is MUCH better than being crushed by Chyna and Billy Gunn week after week, like Eddie was back in the fall of 2000. Boy did THAT test my gag reflex. Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted August 21, 2002 Im trying to figure out why they teamed Batista and DVon up after what happened last week. Wouldn't it be kinda obvious that Batista would leave or screw DVon? Yes, but me, unlike you, saw that...remembered we're watching WWE, and gave it no further thought. Logic has no place. Like Steph the supposed face actiing like a heel. I can only assume that Bautista beating his ass is merely "dissention" and not...you know...an actual end to the team. Guest ShooterJay Report post Posted August 21, 2002 On another note, I still don't get what they're trying to do with Matt Hardy. Is he a face or a heel? Is he setting up an OMEGA stable with Moore and Helms?

Edge has a lean and somewhat skinny physique, and he does the spear pretty softly, so that's why the Spear usually doesn't work for just any guy. Understandable. I just prefer the spear as a mid-match spot, not as a finisher though. And I was never terribly impressed with Rhyno neither now or when he was in ECW, so there's a quite a bit of bias thrown in there.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted August 21, 2002 Sounds like a decent enough show. I'll enjoy Angle assaulting Kidman. On the spear thing, yeah it works with Rhyno because of the way he's built but Edge...eh not so much. He's just too damn lanky for it. And Rhyno only used it once and maybe twice in a match, Edge will go the fuck off with those things and start handing them out like Rocky does right hands. Guest Big McLargeHuge Report post Posted August 21, 2002 Angle/Kidman? Why?
Guest bps "The Truth" 21 Report post Posted August 21, 2002 Yeah...but did Rhyno ever beat top guys or credible wrestlers with the spear? He'd beat people with a spear into a trashcan or some other weapon... but he didn't beat good people with a lame ass spear. Hell...even Goldberg used is as a set up. Guest Mik at Cornell Report post Posted August 21, 2002 I would have to say Matt Hardy is a heel. How the hell can he be a face if he made Helms and Moore carry him out on their shoulders? Definitely a heel move. And it sounds pretty funny to me.
Guest Will Scarlet Report post Posted August 21, 2002 The show seemed pretty average to me, but it did have roving reporter FUNAKI~! on it, so, heck, any show that has the awesomeness of FUNAKI~! on it gets a thumbs up from me.
Guest Brian Report post Posted August 21, 2002 I actually love the way the Hardys angle is headed. Obviously Matt's a little jealous that all his old OMEGA mates have received a lot of attention, and came to the realization of that after all of Jeff's singles work. He's playing to the crowd but everything about him screams heel. It's the heel that steals the spotlight at every turn and tries to get in good with the crowd but just has other motives. Guest AndrewTS Report post Posted August 21, 2002 The poking fun at the Montreal incident sounds amusing. Overdone? Maybe, and seems to be indirectly being an asinine cheap shot at Bret Hart, but if it means that Matt Hardy will...*gasp* actually be given a personality, then I can deal with it. He's always been the more solid wrestler of the two, and if he can pull it off, well... At least it wasn't a barber shop window, Jeff.
