Disc read error.

Guest The Man in Blak

As of today, roughly eighteen months after getting my Playstation2 at the launch date...I was greeted with the lovely message that thousands of internet Playstation fans love to hate.

"Disc read error."

Aliens: Special Edition? Nothing.

The Emperor's New Groove? Nope.

X-Com: UFO Defense (PSX)? Not at all.

The one game that works?

Freekstyle.

Of all the worthless games to throw at my doorstep, please - I'd almost take Quest 64 over an EA Big-related cash cow not named SSX. But no dice - I get to hear Metz make stupid noises while I continually get my ass kicked by an AI that was obviously designed by the military as a precursor to the HAL 9000. BUT I DIGRESS.

Just to warn you all that have Playstation 2's...it's going to happen. It's going to happen to you.

www.diskreaderror.com - time to UNITE~!

Try standing it on its side (you know the other way it can stand...vertically)

Mine gives me fits sometimes...but doing that will get it going for me.

I would say that my PS2 of 15+ months has no problems, but if I do that then I would jinx myself. Therefore, I have said nothing...

I hope that Nintendo doesn't have any silly problems with the Gamecube like this, because other than blowing on the NES to make some games work and not get the original blue screen of death, I have never (knocking on wood) had a problem with a console. I did have a problem with my gameboy, but I suspect that 8 years of use was the culprit (I got one of the originals in 1989 and it pretty much stopped working in 1997, a coincidence considering that Nintendo was just about ready to put out game boy pocket.)

If this were to happen to moi, could this be repaired somewhere? Could I send it back to EBGames for a replacement?

I live in fear now...

Usually the problem is dust. This has happened to me before. If you have one of those air spray cans, spray out the fan in the back and make sure the disc tray is dust free, that should fix the problem.
