TNA Going Under?

Recommended Posts

Guest Dames Edna

As has been reported on the wrestlingobserver website, NWA:TNA is not going to be having any live shows for the next few weeks. This can only lead to further speculation that the company is in more financial trouble. They have for all intents and purposes cut any big name stars who would cost any money, as well as the lowly Simon Diamond for financial reasons. Their biggest star, Jeff Jarrett, is there because his father runs the promotion.

Stars like Low Ki, Styles, Lynn, and Killings are the main reasons to watch the show, but how long will it be before they want a pay increase? Or before the WWE sees that this X-Division is hot, and wants to swipe these stars? I'm sure these competitors would like to have more exposure than weekly PPVs many will not pay for, let alone those in Canada who don't get to see it.

My question is, how long will it be before this company crumbles under their current situation? They have a great thing going, but do not have the exposure to carve their niche. How can this company prevail over these stumbling blocks? And how can they convince their stars that staying with them would be better professionally for them than the WWE?

Sigh... bps will be here soon enough with the full story that I can't remember, but I believe it's that TNA has a contract to air for a full year. You've got another ten months before they go under, bucko.

- Mike Van Siclen.

He just called BDub bucko.

I don't want them to go under, I am simply curious about how they will survive

NWATNA are contractually obliged to produce thirteen shows or they'll forfeit any and all profits they have earned through PPV.

So, personally speaking, I'd be surprised if they fold up and go home before putting on at least thirteen cards.

This is week 10...they're taping week 11 tonight...week 12 will be a highlights/interview show...skipping September 11th...then week 13.

On the subject of the WWE trying to sign away NWATNA's stars, well Ron Killings for one is locked into a long term contract.

It is also a good way to save money until more PPV outlets open up. Soon Canada and bars will get the PPV's. I doubt they would close up shop before then. And how could the WWF afford to bring in anyone when they don't use half the guys they have now. With the recent earings report we'll see more WWE talent cuts before any big signings, IMO.

Nah, the WWE will cut who they have to, but they'll never pass up on anyone they feel can help them out

From Wrestlingobserver.com...

by Dave Meltzer

In an article earlier today on the NWA TNA web site, Bob Ryder announced that tonight's NWA TNA show at the Nashville Fairgrounds would be the company's last live show until 9/18.

The company will be doing PPV events for the next two weeks that will be taped. They are doing a double taping tonight, something that it seemed very few were aware of. It was said that is because of a conflict with the Fairgrounds next week. There was no reason given for no live show on 9/4. There will be a taped PPV event that night airing clips of previous X division matches as well as new interviews that will likely be taped tonight. The company had previously announced no show on 9/11 on PPV.

He reported that the next live show on 9/18 would feature a match to determine the vacant tag team titles.

Also announced in the report are Chris Harris & James Storm vs. Brian Lee & Ron Harris added to tonight's show, and that Slyk Wagner Brown, April Hunter and the Backseat Boys are on hand, and will likely appear in matches taped for next week.

was this expected?

Here is the exact quote from Ryder...

Fans attending tonight's live event at the Nashville Fairgrounds will be getting their money's worth! Because of scheduling issues related to upcoming events at the Fairgrounds, we're taping additional footage tonight that will be used for the next two week's broadcasts. On September 4, we will be airing a special broadcast called "Spexial X" devoted exclusively to the X Division and featuring a mixture of never before seen behind the scenes interviews and highlights of some of the great "X" matches we've seen in recent weeks. We're off the air on September 11 to pay respect to the one year anniversary of the terrorist attack on the United States. Our next live show will be September 18 when we return with a broadcast that will determine new NWA Tag Team Champions in a "TNA Termination" match.

...I don't see what the big deal is really, as it looks to me as nothing more than conflictions at the fair grounds, and a show of respect to 9/11. Hell, after the show that was last week, perhaps they need a bit of time to clear their heads, and get ready to shed the crap. :D :D :D

So the only thing that is unexplained is why there is no show on 9/4

And since they are taping the show before it due to a conflict...and they already planned to not do a show on September 11th for obvious reasons...

couldn't they just give the wrestlers the week off to make almost a full month that they can go do something else without having to run back in the middle of it for one day?

Added to the fact that they are going to begin broadcasting the show in CAnada and other places...a highlight show of the X division sure seems like the way I'd go.

Free buys at zero cost?

Yep.

Sounds good to me.

Jerry Lynn, Styles, and Low Ki are going to be tired after tonight's show/taping. Especially Styles and Lynn.

No shit.

All I could think at the end of the match when Lo Ki challenged them was:

So...these two guys just went for over 30 minutes tonight...

and they have to go in a three way ladder match in a little bit.

Man...tough day at the office.

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts behind the booking of Lynn/Styles tonight bps - they can do their shit in the ring but I think it's a bit much asking them to perform so much in the one night.

There's also a chance of overexposing them to the audience.

The thing that I really liked about Lynn/Styles tonight was that from the first fall to the last fall...they battled over every inch of the arena...

I don't mean that they just went all over the place...I mean that they litteraly battled over every THING.

Back and forth, counters, blocks and reversals over every thing...neither willing to give an inch.

Wether it be going through a table, getting a move on the other guy from the top or just doing a simple move in the ring...NEITHER guy would allow the other one to get it without a fight.

That I really enjoyed...as it plays so well into their hatred for each other...and the outcome being a draw.

Neither is better than the other...and that's good.

I said in my preview I would be happy with a draw...because it makes sense in context of their feud.

If you look at their feud from start to finish...you really can't see who's right or who's wrong...they just don't like each other.

For one man to win...would have been the equivelent of one man being right...where neither man was.

So I dug all 30+ minutes of the battle.

However...over exposure is an issue...especially when you wrestle in front of the same arena crowd every time.

On one hand...Too much of one thing is probably going to turn out bad.

But...even if they did give 30+ in the live show...and however long to the taped match...

the crowd won't be seeing them live again until after 9/18...so it should be fresh by then.

Plus...they should find some kind of a new direction soon.

I can see them moving to a point where Red is a bigger player in the X title picture, and Christopher Daniels has a contract with them...and he's finishing up in Japan...so he'll be another new face to ad to the X mix.

I would think that Lynn moving up to the NWA title picture is a possability as well. One that I would welcome.
