A series of films based on "what if"...

Like many other people, I've always been one to wonder "what if". You know, stuff like...

1) What if JFK had been saved?

2) What if Elvis hadn't died when he did?

3) What if OJ had been convicted? (In terms of what riots, etc... could have risen up.)

4) What if the South beat the North?

...and the list can go on and on. Anyhow, on to my question...

...if a film company began to release a series of films based on this "what if" premise, would you check them out? No let's assume it's done by a great film maker, with great scripts. Would you look at it badly with them trying to present what could have happend? Or would it interest you, enough to really go see them? This is just something I've been thinking about lately, that's all!

Sincerely,

...Downhome...

Interesting concept, and I think of those "what if" things every day, only more on a personal level than anything else...like, WHAT IF I had lost my virginity 2 years ago, with my then-girlfriend Tasha, who had said she would sleep with me?

those type of movies have been made, the last one that I remember that had the concept was one that had Gwenith Palthrow as a woman who wonder what if she talked so a guy in the subway or something similiar to that.

Michael Caine played a angel in "Mr Destiny" about a guy who wished he hit the big homerun in a little league game, with James Bleushi.

And there are some movies that had Hilter survive the war.

And then there is the biggest what if movie of all time Its a Wonderful Life

Yes, yes, I know there are TYPES of movies out there with the "what if" concept, but none that I know of that truly deal with actual events such as Elvis, JFK, etc... I dunno, I would find it really interesting for something like that to be made. The hard part, would be how to present the film after what we know to be fact.

There's a movie called "Fatherland" which has Germany winning WW2.

Yes i'd be interested in these movies. But i'd be interested in seeing almost any movie.

Hell i'd be interested if they were made as a b movie on a shoe string budget. But a good crew and good actors with a good script would be even better.

I've had an idea for a script for a while where Elvis faked his death so he could go undercover for the CIA. It would take place in the 80's and be sort of a Alias type thing. Except it'd be nothing but wall to wall Elvis kicking ass.

Would it be serious? I just can't imagine a Elvis secret agent movie being totally serious.

Not totally serious, no, but kinda serious. But it'd still be funny because it would be...you know....Elvis.

Well yeah there's no way it could've been fully serious. A movie with Elvis as a secret agent would have to be alittle tongue in cheek.

Sum Of All Fears is a "What If?" movie.

But not of the type that I'm talking. Hell, Signs is a "what if" movie. Actually, ANY movie is a "what if" movie.

Well unless it's based on Historic Fact without changing anything for dramatic effect.

The Final Countdown w/ Kirk Douglas is pretty close to that.

Don't forget, Elvis was VERY intrested in joining the FBI so its not "out of the realm" And of course J. Edgar and company laughed him out of the building

I would love to see a trilogy of WW2 what if movies, so you could go into the altered war in detail. Say starting with the attack into France and ending in 1946 with the final soviet thrust into Germany.

You could put a number of altered scenarios into it such as Rommels victory in Africa and thrust into the Caucusus, or the IJN winning Midway.

I would mark out like crazy if this happened

I used to like the Marvel "What If?" comic books, so I would proabably check out movies based on the "What If?" concept.

Hell Quantum Leap was a TV series based on the concept of "What If?".

1) What if JFK had been saved?

Now correct if I'm wrong but, didn't Quantum Leap do an esp. where Sam leaped into Lee Harvey Oswald?
