Guest Jobber of the Week Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 Does someone skilled enough in english know if more than one hoss makes "hosses" or "hossii" or something else completely? I'm trying to figure this one out for a little project I'm doing. You guys will likely find it funny.
Guest Downhome Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I believe the plural form of "hoss" would be The Big Show, ie, Yokozuna.
Guest Jobber of the Week Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I believe the plural form of "hoss" would be The Big Show 0_o*** Yeah but "There can never be enough The Big Show!" doesn't make sense.
Guest Downhome Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I believe the plural form of "hoss" would be The Big Show 0_o*** Yeah but "There can never be enough The Big Show!" doesn't make sense. It makes more sense than most of WWE, so that's all that matters.
Guest AndrewTS Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 Hoss isn't exactly like "sheep," "moose" or "cattle," in which the singular and plural forms would be identical. "Hoss" is singular, and following the pattern based upon similar words, "hosses" should be the plural. Of course, if we get into possessive tenses, it would be a bit trickier. For example, we might say (about Big Show) "That hoss' chokeslam is a very devastating manuever!" Since words ending in s don't use an apostrophe AND an s to express possession--just the apostrophe.
Guest The Czech Republic Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I was taught that apostrophe-sans-s is only for plural possessive. James's pony. The cars' engines.
Guest Ozymandias Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 It couldn't be "hossi/hossii" because when pluralized words end in "i", they use the "i" to replace the "s" at the end (example: 'Fungus' becomes 'Fungi' - not 'Fungusi'). So it'd have to be "Hoi", which wouldn't make sense. I'd vote for Hosses. Furthermore, I....Jesus fucking Christ....I can't believe I actually responded to this topic seriously. Kill me.
Guest midnight_burn Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I'd think it'd be hosses, but i may be wrong.
Guest LooseCannon Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 It's not a Greek word people. Hence no need to think about hossi. Follow standard english pluralization practices, and it's fairly evident that "hosses" is proper.
Guest I Like WDI Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 What would the superlative and the diminutive of "hoss" be?
Guest LooseCannon Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I meant Latin, not Greek in that earlier post. woops. Breathe it in kids. LooseCannon finally made a mistake. It won't happen again. I think the superlative and diminutive would be "most/least hoss like," because hossiest and least hossy sound stupid.
Guest I Like WDI Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 And obviously the feminine would be hossette.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 *would never want to see a hossette*
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 Would Chyna pre-operations be a hosette? I'm trying to set up some paramaters here... Oh, I too, vote for hosses
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 Nicole Bass would definitely be a hossette.
Guest kkktookmybabyaway Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 Oh hell yeah. I forgot about her, which is a good thing...
Guest converge241 Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 hoss' fans of the hoss = hosser to become very large and lose ability to work = to hoss (v)
Guest razazteca Posted August 24, 2002 Report Posted August 24, 2002 I think its just like the word moose, where as the plural form never deviates from orginal .
Guest HartFan86 Posted August 25, 2002 Report Posted August 25, 2002 I think it's ~@!HOSSSSSBUYMYBBQSAUCESSSES~!. I dunno though.
