Question: What's the plural forum of "hoss"?

Does someone skilled enough in english know if more than one hoss makes "hosses" or "hossii" or something else completely? I'm trying to figure this one out for a little project I'm doing. You guys will likely find it funny.

Hoss isn't exactly like "sheep," "moose" or "cattle," in which the singular and plural forms would be identical. "Hoss" is singular, and following the pattern based upon similar words, "hosses" should be the plural. Of course, if we get into possessive tenses, it would be a bit trickier.

 

For example, we might say (about Big Show) "That hoss' chokeslam is a very devastating manuever!" Since words ending in s don't use an apostrophe AND an s to express possession--just the apostrophe.

I was taught that apostrophe-sans-s is only for plural possessive. James's pony. The cars' engines.

It couldn't be "hossi/hossii" because when pluralized words end in "i", they use the "i" to replace the "s" at the end (example: 'Fungus' becomes 'Fungi' - not 'Fungusi'). So it'd have to be "Hoi", which wouldn't make sense.

 

I'd vote for Hosses.

It's not a Greek word people. Hence no need to think about hossi. Follow standard english pluralization practices, and it's fairly evident that "hosses" is proper.

I think the superlative and diminutive would be "most/least hoss like," because hossiest and least hossy sound stupid.
