Guest Downhome Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 It seems that they finally crossed the line, and BIG TIME... WNEW/N.Y. Mgt. Suspended Over Opie & Anthony Sex Stunt VP/GM Ken Stevens and PD Jeremy Coleman have been suspended for an undetermined period, Infinity spokesman Dana McClintock says, following last week's stunt in which 'NEW-based Westwood One-syndicated talkers Opie & Anthony aired a live "play-by-play" of a couple having sex just feet away from worshippers at St. Patrick's Cathedral. And as Catholic groups and others continue to call for the FCC to revoke the station's license, McClintock confirms that the talk duo — who had been offering prizes to listeners who agreed to have sex in the city's riskiest places — have been running "best of" shows since Monday and are off the air "indefinitely." ...could they have picked an even stupider thing to try for? Sincerely, ...Downhome...
Guest bob_barron Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I live in NY and this was front page news. Disgusting plain and simple. The producers should be fired. I wouldn't fire O-n-A since someone OKed the stunt but whomever okayed that- gotta go
Guest Cancer Marney Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I dunno, I thought it was pretty funny.

They should have had enough sense to realize that something like that wouldn't fly with many people out there. They shouldn't be fired, but should suffer some sort of punnishment. As for the producers, I agree, they need to be gone now.
Guest LooseCannon Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I don't think this is even any where close to too far. But I guess I'm just jaded.
Guest TJH Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 Absolutely hilarious, if you don't want to listen, turn it OFF! And the Catholic crurch preaching to anyone about sexual morality is a joke, seeing the amount of children they have abused.
Guest NoCalMike Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 Most likely they will have re-runs of the show until the Catholics feel it is time to start waiving dead fetus posters in public again. This will all boil over in a week or so, and Opie & Anthony will be back on the air......The stunt itself was kind of funny, but I could see how it could upset someone, but no reason to be fired.....
Guest cartman Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 Best part bout this is that this would be the second time they got fired for stupid stunts. In Boston when they worked for WAAF they got fired for announcing that Mayor Tom Menino was killed in a car accident when he really wasnt. Fukin Morons.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 Heh..anything to fuck with the clergy amuses me at least a LITTLE.
Guest DrTom Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I thought it was quite funny, but I like anything that tweaks the Church. I've certainly heard of worse, more ridiculous, and more offensive things on the radio than this.
Guest hardyz1 Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 Any time organized religion is fucked with, it's all good.
Guest Shaved Bear Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 i hjate shock radio, but instead of complaining about it...i just don't listen, that's what everyone should do
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 And the Catholic crurch preaching to anyone about sexual morality is a joke, seeing the amount of children they have abused. It was actually kind of funny, because the guy that was there representing the show kept referencing that the church ignored priests raping kids in the church, but got all mad when it was two consenting adults. And I'm not even a fan of O&A, but just had it on while changing cd's in the car.
Guest Retro Rob Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I'm with everyone else who said that anytime the Catholic Church or organized religion is fucked with, it is a good thing.
Guest bob_barron Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 I don't understand how that is a "good thing". Can someone explain it to me?
Guest danielisthor Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 i don't condone it but i am definetly not going to blast it either. Considering everything the Catholic church has done over the past 900+ years, this is absolutely nothing for them to even get their briefs in a bunch over.
Guest razazteca Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 well in Dallas the radio personality team of Kramer & Twitch did a hoax of claiming that Brittney Spears and Justin Timberlake were killed in a alcoholic drinking and driving accident.
Guest danielisthor Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 well in Dallas the radio personality team of Kramer & Twitch did a hoax of claiming that Brittney Spears and Justin Timberlake were killed in a alcoholic drinking and driving accident. we could only hope that it was Justin that died and Brit lost the ability to sing, but would start her career in porn. JK.
Guest razazteca Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 well they both got fired as a result As for the Oppie and Anthony sex stunt, it did go too far as did Stern mocking Selena's death.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted August 22, 2002 Report Posted August 22, 2002 well in Dallas the radio personality team of Kramer & Twitch did a hoax of claiming that Brittney Spears and Justin Timberlake were killed in a alcoholic drinking and driving accident. Yeah...they're here in Michigan now, 7-10 PM...quite popular I couldn't stand them at first, they're pretty funny though...and their hate for Vin Disel (sp) only makse me like the show more.
Guest jimmy no nose Posted August 23, 2002 Report Posted August 23, 2002 I don't think they should do anything to Opie and Anthony. I'm sure they've come up with even crazier ideas that didn't make the air becuase of the producers not OKing it. This should have been the same thing. I don't think it was too far, but that's just me.
Guest Ripper Posted August 23, 2002 Report Posted August 23, 2002 I understand if you are against organized religion and all, but jesus. What if your kids were in church that day, they come outside or are going in and have to see hardcore fucking feet away. I am thinking that you would be a little pissed. If it was any possibility that someones child had to see this, then this should be seen as too far. They went to a public area...people have to right to not see people having sex, catholic or no. BUT!!! Being a no child having guy, I see how it could be funny. I just think that it is a little TOO irresponsible.

Guest CED Ordonez Posted August 23, 2002 Report Posted August 23, 2002 They got fired Funny as I just saw the billboard for O&A with the tagline "Listen Before We Fire Them". Guess I don't get to listen to their shenanigans then. Not a big lost to me since I've been listening to music ever since I finally invested in a CD player for my car a few months back.
Guest the pinjockey Posted August 23, 2002 Report Posted August 23, 2002 The worst part about this (other than the fact I liked the show) is that the Catholic Church will probably start a whole bunch of crap about how they got them kicked off the air, similar to the PTC's dealings with WWF sponsors. Hopefully if they start to run their mouths someone will just look them in the eye and say sit down you sick pedophile. I do agree that maybe they went a little too far but when you turn a blind eye to child molesters you lose your right to say anything in regards to morality.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted August 23, 2002 Report Posted August 23, 2002 Someone else will give them all the money in the world and take them in...like I said, Kramer and Twitch are here in Michigan now and they're way popular
Guest the pinjockey Posted August 23, 2002 Report Posted August 23, 2002 I wouldn't be shocked to see them just go to WYSP in Philly. They are the highest rated afternoon show there and it's Philly they wouldn't care about crap like that.
Guest Ozymandias Posted August 23, 2002 Report Posted August 23, 2002 That's surprising to hear, they were doing REALLY well in several major markets and were only getting more popular. I mean, the worst that would have happened is a huge FCC fine, and that still would be small next to the revenue they would've pulled in for the company for the next several years of their contract. Oh well, it couldn't have happened to 2 nicer people.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted August 25, 2002 Report Posted August 25, 2002 Well, I figure it's pretty tasteless, and obviously illegal, what with indecent exposure, lewd conduct, and all that, and sure I'd be pissed if my (theoretical)kid saw that, but considering I don't have kids, I find it pretty amusing. like I said before, my strong dislike for the church only adds to my entertainment. I agree with Shaved Bear when it comes to just changing the station if shock jocks aren't your thing, though.
